We shared the Sri Lankan lamb curry which was amazing with the perfect amount of heat and depth of flavor. We also had the Eggplant side which was yummy.

What a gem! Beautiful sunny dining area and amazing Sri Lankan food. The stews and soups really hit the spot on this cold November day.

Great place to dine for curries and rice dishes. Service was great. We had 7 people in our party and everything went smoothly. The sour fish appetizer is really good as was my dish of Black Pork curry. If I had any constructive criticism it would be to get a few more pieces of naan on the plate; one is not enough for all the delicious sauces. Also, the curry dishes were a bland brown with white rice. Could’ve used some garnish for color but it didn’t affect the taste which is fantastic. Great dinner all the way around!

Good food and selection. Atmosphere is nice. Takeout was easy and fairly quick given the time needed to prepare the food (not fast food!).

A perfect dinner spot to stop into. We ordered two dishes for here and two dishes to go, all arrived very quickly and were DIVINE. Tuna is cooked to perfection, tandoori chicken is moist, seasoned, and very good to the last morsel.
Recommend for anyone stopping through town as a date or a family to feed. Definitely give it a try! Plus lots of tasty beverages (alcohol and non-alcohol)

Great little place for in a nice location. We ordered a dinner to go. The staff was great and friendly to talk to. We tried ordering chicken wings but the staff apologetically said they were out of it.
We took samosas, a fish curry and srilankan lamb curry. The fish curry was a little salty but the lamb curry was outstanding and cooked to perfection. The rice quantity was a low so I’d recommend ordering extra rice if you like it.

The best restaurant in the town of Ellsworth, the food here will provide your palette with an experience you’ve never known. Smoky, tangy, spicy, tantalizing. These are the flavors you will experience when eating at Serendib. Stimulating jazz music plays in the background and complements the dining experience well. Make sure to call in for reservations as they are quick to book.

Amazing food food and very authentic. Medium spicy is quite spicy for European standards, but just not too spicy. Just a little more ‘Indian’ style to the accommodation and it would feel completely of the grid

Walking into Serendib, I didn't know what to expect. Maine -- at least the places we've been around the state -- seems to be a bit of an Indian/Himalayan food wasteland, and I'd never tried Sri Lankan, but I'm always up for a happy surprise. And that's what I got!
We started with the samosas, which were weird to me, created using phyllo dough. They were the best samosas I've ever had! The filling was perfect, and the phyllo works a lot better than the breading that I've usually had. Please note that I am not the samosa fan in our family -- my partner loves them. She agreed, though, that these phyllo samosas were very good.
For entrees, we always prefer to eat vegetarian, so we both had paneer. I chose the Sri Lankan curry because I had not had that before, and my partner had the Indian Butter sauce. Both were presented simply and beautifully, with the curry filling the large plate, four or five chunks of paneer in a row toward the center, and a large mound of rice on the plate next to the paneer. The plates were quite lovely, and I'm bummed I did not shoot a photo.
The Sri Lankan curry was very thin and heavily tomato-based, again something I'm not accustomed to. It was fantastic! I had a taste of my SO's Indian Butter sauce, and it was more like the kind of curry I usually get, thicker and with more of the curry flavor I'm familiar with. It was very good. Btw, we both ordered mild-medium heat, and the spice level seemed appropriate.
Let me mention the naan. Usually naan -- in my experience -- is served flat, with delicious air bubbles and slightly burned spots. I love that naan. The naan at Serendib definitely did not fit my expectation. It came rolled up, kind of like a fat tortilla (but not). This naan seemed a lot more buttery than I'm used to. I'm dodging the point, though: The naan at Serendib is delicious! It came with three condiments, one root salady, one more like salsa, and one green, and they were all excellent. I was really happy we got the naan, because I needed it to help deliver the extra curry to my mouth.
The ambiance in Serendib is very casual, including the super-casual way the staff were dressed. Again out of the ordinary, but I also like to dress super-casually, and have turned down jobs that require me to dress a certain way, so I appreciate an employer who is willing to bend the norms that way. The staff performed very well, and that's exactly what matters. I also appreciated that the music was somewhat nondescript contemporary pop.
To sum up, the Sri Lankan meal I had at Serendib, while far outside my usual expectations of this kind of cuisine, was some of the best food I've had recently. I highly recommend you try Serendib if you are in the area.

If you love Indian cuisine, try this place. Their chutneys and sauces are popping with flavor. Scratch that - exploding! As you might expect, loads of vegetarian options as well as some lamb and seafood options.

This is the BEST restaurant in Ellsworth, and probably in all of Maine! Fantastic food! So flavorful and delicious! I’m sad I have to go home b/c I’d eat here every day! Skip the lobster and bland food in Maine and go to Serendib!

I actually arrived and ordered to take out. I loved the casual atmosphere. I am vegan and gluten free. The gentleman there at the counter helped me with my selection. It was delicious!!! I am here on vacation, but I will go back when in the area again.

Yay yay yay yay yay!!!
After several years looking but afraid to try, we finally had dinner at this very lovely restaurant in Ellsworth.
Best meal we've had since covid started! Liked very much their take on samasa and chapati! Everything was soooo flavorful and as good if not better than Indian we've had outside of Boston!!! Lovely people, simple, clean, and just such a pleasure... we will be back for sure.

Wonderful spot for vegan and gluten-free dining. All the staff is so friendly and accommodating, making me feel confident in what I’m ordering and knowing that if I have a dietary specification they will help. We went a number of times in the winter when it was take-out only and recently dined in for lunch. Delicious and unique food with similarities to typical Indian restaurants but more veggies and originality which I love. We ate with someone who couldn’t have garlic and they were able to omit which was amazing.

I am a Sri Lankan and my sons and I really enjoyed the food. We ordered mixed rice, wild boar 🐗, goat meat, rice and curry and pol rotti. Their liquor prices are one of the lowest. Good service
