Fresh!. I'm very surprised to find such a high quality japanese restaurant in El Paso. I tried tonkatsu and chirashi in two different visits. Tonkatsu is just soso but the portion is huge.
Chirashi was excellent given the sashimi was very fresh. It is well worth the $25 for what you get for sashimi anywhere. Uni (sea urchin) was excellent too! Definitely one of the best japanese sashimi places in El Paso.

The Best Sushi in El Paso, Hands Down!. Since being stationed here at Ft Bliss I have been to almost every sushi restaurant in El Paso. There is no doubt that after being stationed at Yokota AFB in Japan I have more than just developed a taste for sushi, it has become an obsession. After trying all El Paso has to offer in this department I have to say that the sushi at Riyoma is without question the best. Not only is it of superior taste and quality, the atmosphere inside this small sushi bar is authentic and amazing! If you like sushi, you must stop by this place! It beats the hell out of the sushi place at Freedom's Crossing!!

Improved on last visit.. UPDATE: 8/23/2013

Stopped in for lunch and was pretty happy with my food today. Had the lunch chirashi (a sampling of almost every piece of sashimi over a bowl of sushi rice) and a side order of sea urchin (uni). I must admit, everything was pretty good quality and tasted fresh with nice textures. Even the rice, which was one of my chief complaints here before (too much vinegar) was nicely seasoned this time. I did notice a different/ younger guy running the sushi bar than last time, so maybe he's doing a better job.

What changes! This place has run the gauntlet from starting out as truly exceptional when it first opened and Japanese chef Tom Hio owned it, to being just okay with its second set of owners, to now being just disappointing with its third set of owners. Mediocre sushi at premium prices. Will not be stopping by here anymore.... sorry. The fish is not bad but not ultra fresh as their prices would indicate. My main beef with this establishment is believe it or not: with their sushi rice. It's just all wrong! ...and unfortunately ruins their rolls and nigiri. It has a weird texture and is seasoned badly (too much vinegar?) and its off flavors overpower the subtle taste and texture of the sushi.

Fresh Sushi. I enjoyed my lunch at Riyoma. I've been to some sushi places here that were disappointing because the price did not match the quality of the fish. Riyoma had fresh fish and the price is comparable to any sushi place you can go in El Paso.

Good but overpriced. We went tonight and got sushi and the chicken teriyaki. I got the California Roll and the Crunch Roll.

The California Roll was good, typical California Roll (minus cream cheese). The Crunch Roll was yummy, but the roll was the circumference of a soda can. I don't use chopsticks, and it may be easier to eat with chopsticks, but it was basically impossible with a fork. I basically had to cut up each slice and eat it like a hash, and it left a mess because the elements pretty much fell all over the boat and the table.

The chicken teriyaki comes as a three-course meal with a soup/salad course, appetizer course and main course. The soup/salad were decent, and small. The appetizer was a single tempura pork stick with some kind of slaw. The chicken teriyaki was your basic stir-fried chicken and steamed rice, not more impressive than a fast-food meal.

After tip, it cost $45 dollars. The sushi portion of that was reasonable, or at least the going rate. But the chicken teriyaki was overpriced. You get "lots of food" but you only have the multi-course option, which we wouldn't have chosen had a simple entree been available at a lesser price. I would go back for a sushi roll, or get takeout, but not for just a regular Asian dinner. I can get an equivalent at a drive-through for more flavor.

Nom nom nom. Holy crap. This place is phenomenal. From the sushi to the beef, to the rice. This is a cozy atmosphere and is authentic Japanese. Simply amazing.

The Sushi here is consistently delicious. I’ve been back in El Paso for three years now and have found this to be my favorite quality sushi spot. The staff and owner are always very friendly. I usually order their 12 piece chef’s choice sushi plate, the Riyoma roll and another roll for two. They always give us Miso soup while we wait on our food.

I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. The staff is great, it's clean, very clean, and the food is SO good. I'm super skeptical about sushi in the middle of the desert but I could eat here every day without hesitation. No fishy smells, everything tasted fresh, the presentation and plating was fantastic. The ambiance is very calm and pleasing, nothing flashy or over the top so it's comfortable. They have seating right where the chef puts the food together as well as tables/chairs. I 100% recommend this place because of all the places I've eaten in El Paso, this one is one of my favorites.

This is a good Japanese Restaurant that is hidden away from popular areas. The Sushi tastes pretty good, we have also ordered some rolls and Shrimp Tempura Odon, they all tasted good. The broth had a good balance of flavors, and the egg was cooked perfectly. Overall, the restaurant is nice and clean, the food came out pretty fast as well.

At the time of visit, it seems that this establishment has been in operation for a bit and had a steady flow of customers. Not packed during a weekday dinner. The whole family enjoyed our meals. No ramen options but plenty of udon and sushi. My pork belly was not as fresh but it was still good. The ice cream was great. Save some room for it. That seasoning to add to your food is awesome. You can it to everything.

One of the best places in town to eat sushi! The tuna is always fresh and delicious! My favorite sushi roll is the Las Vegas roll, it is a true Las Vegas! You wont find another one like this in town! The staff is always friendly and attentive. Absolutely my favorite place to enjoy delicious fresh sushi! They also offer private seating for a small group giving a true Japanese vibe.

This review is from a while back when I used to live in El Paso. They offer very good sushi and sashimi. Saturday Lunch Special Chirashi, $16, was very good with excellent ingredients. Since I was not totally full after that, I just had to order a Lunch Special Combo, $13. I really enjoyed both very much. If you like sushi, this is a great place to go. Enjoy!

Riyoma is by far the best sushi restaurant in east El Paso. I've tried several and while tasty, nothing has had the freshness and creativity that Riyona provides. I would recommend sitting at the sushi bar. We've gotten to know KC, the sushi chef, and don't even bother with a menu. Below are some of the items he created based on our pallets. That's the best part and what sets Riyoma apart from others with it's more traditional sushi bar service. It's a staple in our meals out.

The best Japanese cuisine in El Paso! Good is excellent, traditional, and very fresh and high-quality! I was highly impressed by the sushi and raw foods, though there was plenty variety and I loved everything we were served! Everything down to the rice was carefully prepared, and there wasn’t a bad option on the menu. The restaurant’s comfortable and traditional atmosphere is also notable, and I had a great experience overall while waiting for our food to be served. Staff were very friendly and attentive, and service was excellent. I would most definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone in the mood!
