I don't know if the owners changed or just the name, but it is now called 281 Cafe. I had the cheese enchiladas. They were good but nothing to talk about. We went during lunch hour which was not a good idea. We had about 5 maybe 10 minutes to eat our food and that's because we worked a few blocks down the street. The place wasn't packed but the wait for the cashier to charge us was longer than the wait for the food. The rice and salsa with chips were pretty good though.

Food was delicious! Had two botanas for two. Fed family of 5, with leftovers. So much food!
Real lemonade was real good too!
Excellent service by two super friendly waitresses. Thank you!
We will definitely return!

I love the daily specials!!! And they serve you enough (I always have to ask for a take out). One full meal is really enough for 3 separate meals!!! I go every week with family and friends. And when friends come every few weeks they love going there!!!

I recall on one particular occasion during the lunch hour they had a special it was baked chicken with sides and a drink ....i was hungry,I love chicken and it seemed like a good deal. Let me say that when I was served it was absolutely disgusting! The chicken was raw!!!!! All the customers were complaining, there were many plates left full on the tables and it appeared that most of the people that had ordered the same special had just got up and walked off...i thought you know I'm not paying for this....i do not recommend this place ....well actually their breakfast was pretty good but lunch was atrocious....over all I do not recommend vaqueros! At least not for lunch...do yourselves a favor go to the moonlight cafe in edinburg it's so much better!

This place forgot the 90s ended. Aesthetically and when ot comes to service.
The food is typical of a hole in the wall.
But is served. Homestyle. With a friendly way not seen science the 90s .its disappointing how its not disappointing. The building is old and the outside is not cleaned up enough . But the food passes . Its fairly priced and a good location. Their hospitality makes it definitely worth a visit...

First time here and I can honestly say I'll be coming back! Food was great, menu had variety, good service, great down even to the chips and salsa. Quiet as well, great place to sit and enjoy the food. Food was also ready pretty quick. I definitely recommend it, especially after a long day. 👍🏻

We live nearby. We haven't tried all the Mexican restaurants in the neighborhood - and there are MANY. Part of the reason is that we tried Vaqueros early on and like it so much we don't often bother to go elsewhere . Its a friendly, affordable place with good food. We especially like the chile rellenos. Very flavorful. There are many interpretations of many dishes and theirs is fine for us.

The time to bring out the food was terrible. It took them 37 minutes to take out 2 orders of enchiladas and 43minutes for a torta. Then they didn't have any more Dr.Pepper fountain drink. And they had ran out of torta bread. So they use a hamburger bread, which I told them no mayonnaise in my torta they added extra. So just all around bad experience.
