My Aunt and I came here for breakfast this morning, and I loved it! Fun decorations, nice atmosphere, great service, yummy food.
I had the stuffed french toast (with strawberries), I think it was called. (Asked for extra whip cream and recieved a bowl full.)
I would definitely reccomend going to this place and I hope to go back sometime!
On the last leg of our trip from North Carolina to Duluth MN, we stayed overnight in Baraboo WI. After reading ads for the Nucleus, we let our GPS guide us off US-51 into the old town part of Eau Claire.
The front of Nucleus looks like a main street furniture store or hardware store with apartments above it.
We stepped into a surprisingly small one room breakfast nook with about 15 or 20 occupied tables in front of an order pass through window. Noticing a door at the far left of the back wall, I asked a waitress if there were more seating. She led us through a small hallway of booths into a large brick room that looked like a living room with a bar at one end. The inner two corners of this large room had halls that ran perpendicular to the hall we'd used. I asked a waitress if the business had spread from one part of the building to another. She said yes, and it spread upstairs. There is no central theme - just a warren of different rooms.
Our "living room" had 4 tables, 3 sofas, a coffee table, and a bar. Pictures on the wall include a bleeding map, a family portrait of Star Wars troopers, and a couple embracing while wearing deep sea diver helmets. Waiters and male customers wear beards, unrolled stocking caps, or other unique head gear. They talk boisterously and sophomorically. Waitresses bring uniqueness also. Some are blonde cuties, and others are black-haired with black lipstick and nail polish. The blondes wear miniskirts or lounge pants. The others wear black jeans or tight black dresses.
I ordered the first huevos rancheros that I've enjoyed. Two warm tortillas were covered with fried eggs, refried beans, salsa, and sour cream. I also had a fruit dish of bananas, strawberries, grapes, and melons. My wife had a sandwich of scrambled eggs, sausage, and cheese on a bagel. We had light roast coffee.
Our waitress was cheerful and friendly and kept our coffee filled. She took TripAdvisor photos of us.
Awesome food but too little space. We went there for sunday brunch. Luckily, we were early so we did not need to wait for seats. We really like the food and service there. However, the place was quite small and could only fit in so many people. Most people that came a bit after us had to wait in a waiting space at the back of the restaurant.
Food is SPECIAL. The taste and preparation of the food is absolutely excellent. The taste is always superb...Mouth watering variety of tastes...Love the Lemon curd crepes. The home made soups are spectacular...Prices are reasonable...Wait Staff is poor to fair....Very small...wish there was a bigger area in which to dine....
Great food but would not call it kid friendly as there were no changing tables in the bathrooms
Excellent. We visited twice - excellent service and great food both times. The menu is rich and 'foody'. I recommend it!
Loved it. Went at 11am on a Sunday, place was busy but still had great fresh food and great service. Coffee refills offered. Friendly people, eclectic atmosphere.
Just a heads up but The Nucleus is also open for breakfast on Wednesdays as well. Please note or update on website. Thanks
Excellent Food. I've been here three times and I can always count on the food to be fantastic. The atmosphere is upbeat and cozy. I can't wait to return and try more items on the menu.
Favorite breakfast. I've live in the eau claire area for almost 3 years now and just recently discovered this place through a friend. Everytime I come, I order something different. I have some dietary restrictions but always can find something new to try and I have never been disappointed so far. It gets busy on a saturday morning so it's always good to come early, but there is extra seating space in the back coffee shop. The omega scrambler is good, as well as the salmon crepe and seattle blues sandwich. French toast and buckwheat pancakes are good to.
Great food, but.... You can't take anything away from the food here, it is always simply delicious. But if you come during a prime hour (breakfast on Sunday, for example) expect to be seated in a slap-dash dining area at a beat up table with mismatched chairs. Oh, and expect breakfast to take about 2 hours. Service is bad. It seems like the Nucleus has expanded seating without expanding the kitchen or staff. But... the food is splendid.
The food is so splendid that I am MORE than willing to sit at an ugly table on a poorly constructed chair with slow service, just for the pleasure of having a great breakfast. And may I suggest one of the crepes? Or a stuffed french toast? Or the El Presidente... it really doesn't matter... it's all good.
Good food, great coffee. Nice view of the river. El presidenteis awesome.
A unique establishment in a cute part of town. We were seated quickly, and the staff was very friendly. The service was good, albeit quite slow. The hostess did let us know in advance that it would be about a 30 minute wait; we appreciated the heads up.
The food was pretty good overall. We had the Omega Scrambler and the Bagel Sandwich. The former was essentially a salmon and avocado omelette, which I enjoyed, although it was a bit weird to have the avocado cooked into the omelette (it was therefore warm and mushy). I would have preferred it cold and on the side. The latter was also good, but nothing outstanding. We also added the Lionized hash browns, which complemented the meal nicely.
The prices were quite reasonable, especially considering that tip is essentially included (there is a sign that says you don’t have to tip extra).
Our waitress, Paige, was very friendly and gregarious!
Great spot with a quirky sprawling layout. Friendly staff & delicious options. Hubby had the crepes and added parmesan hash browns and some scrambled eggs. I had the pulled pork sandwich. Both were amazing!!
Highly recommended! Nucleus is a must go. We had brunch on a week day, got seated right away. The service was warm and inviting. Super friendly staff. The food was delicious!!!! I will definitely go back. The portions are nice and big.
This place is an amazing gem! The staff is perfectly attentive and friendly, the food is amazing and the prices are perfectly reasonable for the generous portions. Plus, the staff is well-paid, making tips completely not necessary (but feel free to - they'll split it evenly).
I’ve lived in Eau Claire for three years and tried this restaurant for the first time. I have heard nothing but good things, and let me say it didn’t disappoint! The food was AMAZING and the staff was incredibly friendly. I will definitely be returning soon.
Best breakfast burrito in the U.S.
I'm a traveling consultant (fortunate enough to travel to 40+ states) and this on tops the list.
Get the breakfast burrito with a side of lionized hash. And a large mimosa. You'll be stoked on life.
I Never, I mean NEVER give five stars. I am speechless...went to the Nucleus for the first time today. Based off of brunch recommendations on a foodie site, we went. An hour and 20 min wait...and I never like to wait. I found out why this is a hopping joint. It was soooo worth the wait!!
I ordered EL Presidente and hubby had a bacon and feta omelette and a mimosa. The prices were great for the quality of the food. I had ton left over which will be my breakfast for tomorrow. I’m soooo sold on this place . A tru gem in this area. Nommm nommm! 🤟
Wow! Fantastic fun food and a very trendy atmosphere! We had the Yeti platter, Lemon crepe, and two Americano style coffees. Split the breakfast entrees between us and thoroughly enjoyed them. We will be repeat customers.
This place is popular so you may need to wait for seating, but the wait isn't long. Regardless of wait time, it's worth it!
