Great place! Road trip on I-20 and stopped for dinner. Had breakfast for dinner - Trucker's Special. Delish. Biscuits are terrific. Real diner feel to the place. Good waitress. Plenty of people eating there.
Good countrified cooking, but don't be expecting 5 star cleanliness. The burgers are delicious and dont forget the sweet tea
Love it!. I love Red Star Cafe! My grandfather used to take me here for breakfasts. I recently returned for the first time since he passed 8 years ago. It is still just as good as I remember it. Go for the country breakfast or omelettes. We also ate lunch there and I had the burger. Delicious! I highly recommend for locals or for folks just passing through on I-20.
Had a great dinner here. I can't say enough good things about this small dinner. Chicken fried steak was delicious and could cut it with my fork! My wife had the Texas cheese steak and really enjoyed it.
If you are traveling on I-20 in west Texas, and need a good meal then this is the best place to grab a good meal.
Also wait staff provided great service to us!
Will definitely be stopping in again soon!
This was our Oasis in the Texas Highway Food Desert! Clean, bright cafe with friendly, efficient service and really good food - simple diner fare that was cooked right adn served hot in generous portions. Surprised this wasn't in TripAdvisor - but it is now. This stop saved our morale!
The staff was so kind and welcoming and engaged us in pleasant conversation. The portions are delicious and heaping. We had the chicken fried steak, chicken tenders, and chicken fried steak sandwich and it was amazing. Definitely stop by and enjoy the food and atmosphere and support this small business.
We recommend everyone to stop and enjoy the delicious food at Red Star Cafe right off the Gorman, TX exit off I-20. Our server, Cheyenne was very pleasant, charming, and attentive to our needs. The Peach Cobbler was the best I’ve ever had! The menu is full of great homemade selections. We’re definitely coming back for more in the near future!
Ate there tonight, July 30 th., I had Chicken Fried Chicken with Mac n Cheese n Mashed Potatoes with Gravy, Unsweetened Tea.
Desert was there Peach Cobbler..
It was outstanding, all fresh and homemade, waitress was friendly, checked on us frequently, asked if everything was okay.
Definitely on the GO BACK TO list for sure.

My wife and I dropped in expecting the usual “gas station” restaurant food, but this is home style cooking. I was shocked to learn that the chicken strips and mashed potatoes are made in house. That’s what we ordered and it was excellent. I may try a burger or chicken fried steak the next time we visit.
This was our first time eating at the Red Star Cafe and it was incredible! The staff is so sweet, food is delicious, and has an amazing atmosphere! If you are near or far, I HIGHLY recommend stopping by! Not to mention there homemade desserts are to die for!!
Not only is the food delicious, our server "Desi Lou" was exceptional. Beautiful and clean restaurant. A welcome conversion with manager Hunter was very pleasant. Highly recommend stopping for a meal.
