We sat at the bar, our favorite place to sit. The server/bartender was excellent and the food. The only thing is that my wild rice was over cooked. Otherwise we go there at least two to three times a week. Love me some Grandmas!! We ordered the steak kabobs. yum

We were greeted immediately by the manager, Amanda, whom we've known for years. She chatted with my wife for a moment, while a hostess neared us with menus.
Grandma's has booths, tables, and a free-standing bar, all decorated in Americana. Sleds, toboggans, and signs hang from the ceiling. Cigar signs, beverage signs, railroad signs, and other signs of earlier times adorn the walls. There is a solarium. Food choices include sandwiches, pasta, wild rice, sea food, steaks. There is a large drink menu with beer, wine, cider, and mixed drinks. Local Duluth breweries are represented.
As soon as we were seated, our waitress, Claire approached. She was cheerful and confidant. She asked if we were ready to order or wanted some time. I told her we'd order as soon as we got our drinks. She brought us a Diet Coke and an iced tea. My wife got her favorite, Chicken Tetrazini. I switched from my initial desire for fish and chips to a new feature, an open-faced ham melt sandwich. An open hogie roll was covered with thin ham, sliced tomatoes, melted cheese, and honey mustard. It came with fries. Claire checked back shortly after bringing our food. She kept our drinks filled and asked me if I wanted a final iced tea when I ordered a dessert of strawberry rhubarb pie. It was quite good.
The young men and women who serve are friendly, polite but casual, and helpful. Grandma's takes local checks. If you want to give feedback, there are anonymous report cards next to the cash register.
As we left Claire thanks us for coming in, and Amanda wished us goodbye.
I appreciate my military retiree discount.
