Plan Ahead.. You need reservations, and you'd better plan early. They're only open a few days a week, and seating goes fast.
This past February I called and inquired about seating for Valentine's Day. When I finally got a hold of someone, they were kind of rude. They weren't going to be open because Valentine's Day was a Tuesday.
The decor sucks. Like many others have said, it's dumpy.
The food is great. The steaks are done to perfection. Sides like the mashed potatoes are just great.
The server I had the last time I was there was an AWESOME person. The meal I chose came with something as a side that I didn't care for in the least. He apologized and offered me a double on the side I did like.
Between my parents, my wife and her parents, I think we've been there about 20 times.
Simply, THE BEST, bar none!. I haven't been there nearly often enough and, actually, not in quite a while. Its a bit of a drive for me but every time I dine at any other steakhouse, however good the meal may be, at some point I always compare it to The Bears'. Its never even fair. They always fail, often miserably, by comparison.
The Bears' is, truly, THAT good.

I consider myself to be an authority on good steak and this place is the best in the region hands down. Large portion sizes normally make me think the kitchen is trying to compensate for a lack somewhere else, but not at The Bears. A delmonico the size of a porterhouse and cooked to perfection; prime rib that looks like it may have been cut from a brontosaur but is so tender you can cut it with your fork, not too fatty nor grizzled in any way. Prices are right where they should be for food of this quality. Small footprint (the dinning room seats ~30) and extremely personal service with a highly knowledgeable waitstaff.
The chateau is out of this world. Hands down best meat I've had in the area. Atmosphere is kind of like the dumpy diner on the corner but I'm there for the food and it's wonderful.
I have to say tonight was an experience! From the time we walked through the front door with Bob greeting us to John giving us an evening of laughs along with the kindness of everyone there. They did not leave any stone unturned with the fresh, flavorful and homemade desserts. They have the best Tiramisu and Cream pies we ever had. This is our new favorite spot. Thank you all for a memorable evening!!!
My wife and I spent our 43rd Wedding Anniversary enjoying a wonderful meal at the Bears Restaurant. The service and servings did not disappoint. We have been loyal patrons for much of our married life. Chianti, a rich and flavorful beef soup followed up with monster shrimp cocktails. The best was yet to come. Perfectly prepared and flavorful Prime Rib. Our waiter John was a delight and during dinner his brother Chef Robert came out to visit guests in the house. A truly delightful evening.

I can't say enough good things about this place from the ambiance, to the staff, to the food, to the drinks! Everything is executed with such care and hospitality. Living in the capital region most my life I regret that it took me 30 years to discover this gem! This will be a regular celebratory meal for our family for years to come!
Absolutely amazing! The food was really made with great care. Every detail on the plate was perfect. I have never left so full in my life. I could not stop eating. Even when we got to dessert the options were so amazing I had to try a bite of everything. Great spot for a couples dinner or family celebration. Thank you John for that amazing service. You really made the night all the more fantastic. Your desserts were perfect. We will be back again!
The mama steak was so tender it actually melted in my mouth...and cooked to perfection. The shrimp in the shrimp cocktail are humongous and the sauce will definitely open up your sinuses...but its a must have. Chef Bob certainly knows his way around the kitchen. Brother John who runs the table service is very friendly and gives great advice. He is also the one making the cocktail sauce and the desserts. If you have room for dessert which I doubt, you can't go wrong on any of the choices. I highly recommend this hidden gem. They go out of their way to please you. 5 star
Food and hospitality beyond superb! Desserts to die for. Reservations a must. Nice, calm ambiance and a full service bar. A perfect "Special Occasion" dining experience.
