Next Monday (12/25/2023) will be the last day of business for Yum Yum Spice on University Blvd, right by the University of Denver. They are known for their one of the kind Sichuan specialty dishes. It is regrettable to see another good Asian restaurant go.
This is a great Chinese restaurant for noodles and other super yummy dishes, but their specialty is Dry Hot Pots. They are uniquely served over a warming candle. This was a fun place to try and I’ll definitely be going back. The restaurant was clean and the staff was very helpful with recommendations.
Excellent spicy Szechuan! I highly recommend the regular dry pot/ griddle dish - Szechuan style. The regular size is good for about 3-4 people. You pick one protein, and it comes with celery, soy sprouts, and potatoes. Personally I leave the potatoes off and add other items a la carte: bamboo, broccoli, black fungus (wood ear mushrooms), and shiitake mushrooms. I like hot and spicy and eat Thai chili peppers, but found that the "medium" was plenty zippy. The seating area was small but clean. Parking is on the street - no convenient lot, but excellent food!
Excellent food and wonderful service!! Their extensive menu covers all of the traditional comfort foods, but also provides authentic Chinese dry pot. It was our first time so we stayed in familiar territory with regular (not pepper spice) chicken breast. SO yummy!! Highly recommend!
I’m a huge dry hot pot lover, this place is very authentic, and better than the one I always go in Bay Area. Also the server is very nice!
The lamb dry hot pot was good. I need to try more dishes to better rate the restaurant.
I was introduced to Yum Yum by a good friend who grew up in China, and have been coming here for years now! I routinely bring out of town guests. We always get the dry pot, and it is amazing... such a unique and delicious flavor profile. We almost always default to the traditional, mild, with shrimp and lamb, then add tofu skin, with a bowl of rice for each person. It's a bit pricy, but worth every penny! A large pot will easily feed 3-4 people. And it's just as delicious leftover! 10/10 recommend. And the service is always exceptional!
I ordered delivery. It was fast and fresh.
I had the pad thai (shrimp) and moo shu pork The pad Thai could have been a bit spicier...but overall very tasty and delicious.
The Moo Shu Pork was awesome. Very flavorful. I would order both again!
Small menu but after visiting a few times everything we’ve ordered is on point!! I personally LOVE the basil beef and the drunken noodles (my husband is sick at the moment but says “even though I can’t really taste them right now they made such an impression that I can taste them with my mind. OMG babe, that’s the first thing I want. Yep. I want drunken noodles & salt / pepper shrimp. )
Also it’s worth noting that this is a small clearly family run business. These ladies are super sweet and have a great energy about them. Please be kind and respectful. There is a whole spectrum of places you can go and spend your time and money. Let’s do our part to support the ones genuinely worth it
A pleasant surprise to find a solid mala dry pot place in Denver! No frills dining experience but the service was fast and friendly. The spice level was perfect (extra spicy is indeed extra spicy!) and the flavors were good if not a little too strong/oily (which is normal for dry pot, of course). Very generous portions sizes which justified the price point. Would love to come back and try some of the stir fry dishes too!
