Poppies has been a Denver staple forever! The service and food are excellent. The restaurant decor needs updating and its really dark inside. Which is hard on the majority of their older clientele. Other than lighting issues, food was delicious!
I'd heard about this place for years but had never been before. The interior was a throwback to an old piano bar lounge, which I happen to like but may not be for everyone. The mussels were among the best I've ever had. My friend enjoyed an order of ribs. Generous pouring of wine.
Experienced Poppies for the first time as part of a group of 25 seniors.
The bar area reminded me of Cheers, however, we were seated in the dining area. It was busy when we arrived at 4:30 on Thursday and was packed with a waiting line when we left at 6:15. Despite the number of customers, our waitress,Sarah, took care of us with a constant smile and patience. Everyone at our table ordered a variety of food and enjoyed each item. I had the schnitzel and loved it with the fresh red cabbage and fluffy potatoes. This will not be my last visit!
I'm glad a made a reservation for this place as when I walked in it was absolutely packed which is usually a good sign.
The potato skins had a ton of flavor. Definitely enjoyed those. For the price I paid for the chicken piccata I was disappointed. The serving size of the chicken was underwhelming and the noodles were lightly buttered. Other reviews are much kinder and most come from regulars so this being my first experience I can't completely bash it.
Old school eats here. Mashes you feel the godfather is sitting at the back table. Great staff and specials. Home made brownie mocha ice cream was killer. Prime rib sandwich. Crispy house cut fries. The place was mostly filled early with an older crowd which tells you they've been coming around a long time. This is not a trendy hipster spot, it's more old world. Just great food with excellent service. Simple and delicious and makes you a loyal customer.
Great food, service, drinks. A little dark inside, where's the lights? I can see why this place has been open for so long. It's delicious. The food was so good I didn't even have time to snap a photo.
Wonderful ambience, food is fairly priced, generously portioned and delicious. Flawless service from the lovely Bartender.
Stepping across their threshold, I felt like I'd been transported several decades backwards in time. It's very old school in all the best ways possible.
Best dining experience I've had in several years.
This place is amazing. Lots of cuisine choices including classic comfort food. Great grub, excellent customer service(wait and host staff), and an old school atmosphere, takes you back in time. Some of the best carrot cake I've ever had. This is my new favorite supper joint.
Poppy's is a great place to good classic comfort food! We really appreciate that they have a very nice outdoor dining set up, even though we chose to eat indoors. The menu was extensive with lots of Classics including beef stroganoff, specialty hamburgers, shrimp scampi, prime rib and beef sandwiches, and lots of healthy salads to choose from. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and our food was served piping hot and very quickly. I give Poppies Restaurant on Colorado Boulevard five stars!
I've been eating here since 1999. I do not have any pictures because when it comes out it smells and looks delicious. I'm going to try and add the pictures next time I go. This time I came specifically for their French fries and ranch dressing. I had a lemonade and the bartender took care of me. Great atmosphere. I had a mask to be cautious but wasn't required. Until next time.
