Review Ocean Prime - Denver

Food: I have been here multiple times and the food is always fantastic. The seafood is high quality and always fresh. I would highly recommend the jumbo crab cake. It is perfectly seared on the outside and delicious crab inside. It also comes served with a slaw. It actually is pretty big too. I would also recommend the surf and turf appetizer. You can’t go wrong with scallops seared to perfection and short ribs so tender you don’t need a knife. As far as dessert, you literally can’t go wrong! I love their 10 layer carrot cake. Service: Every time I have gone, the staff was always very attentive, friendly, and made great recommendations. They were always respectful of the time because normally I would have a show to attend at the Denver Center of Performing Arts. Highly recommended eating here for any occasion!

We had a very nice meal here in the bar area. The shrimp cocktail was excellent with an in-house cocktail sauce. The Chilean Sea Bass was cooked to perfection with a light, citrusy vinegarette over the top. The ravioli was dressed lightly and the goat cheese and mushrooms were very well seasoned. We finished with a butter cake and berries that was also good. It's a great special occasion place as well.

My wife and I were visiting Denver and decided to stop in on a Saturday night. The restaurant was crowded but we were seated right away treated to some delicious popcorn. My wife ordered twin lobster tails and I got the grouper. The food was excellent. My meal came with some of the best gnocchi I have ever had. The atmosphere was great too given the location in Larimer Square. I would highly recommend Ocean Prime.

I must say, I absolutely adore this Ocean Prime establishment. The service here is truly exceptional, and the quality of the food and drinks is simply outstanding. Luke, our favorite bartender, consistently provides a level of service that goes above and beyond. His positive energy never fails to brighten our visits. We also had the pleasure of meeting Alice, and her warmth and friendliness were equally delightful. Every time I step foot in Ocean Prime, I’m welcomed like friend by them, and it’s a feeling that keeps me coming back. The combination of the remarkable service, delectable food, and delightful drinks ensures that this place will always have a special place in my heart. Recently, Luke recommended the tuna tartare, even though I’m not typically a fan of raw fish. To my surprise, I tried it, and I found myself scraping every last bit off my plate. It was an exceptional dish and a testament to the outstanding recommendations you can expect at Ocean Prime.

The experience is great. The dry ice made the meal fun and exotic. Thr food was amazing. It is pricey but it is amazing quality. The fish is juicy and we'll seasoned. The oysters to lobster was very fresh and didn't have a overwhelming fishnets. You will need to find parking in advance or pay heavy on valet or close parking.

Located in Downtown Denver on the corner of historic Larimer Square, Ocean Prime is an ideal place to socialize and indulge in Happy Hour in the Lounge. Happy Hour is offered Monday through Friday from 4-6pm. All Lounge food offerings are $5 off and there are $8 Specialty Cocktails, $8 select red & white wines, & $5 local beers. I valeted my car right by Ocean Prime on Larimer Square for $10 with validation from the restaurant. We arrived at Ocean Prime and were seated at a high-top table in the Lounge. The aesthetic was high-end and sophisticated with chestnut woods and dark blue uplighting. Our server Elliot had great flair and happy hour recommendations. Managers Chris and Nick ensured customers had everything they needed and were well taken care of. For cocktails I had the Black Orchid - only $8 during happy hour - made with Belvedere Organic Blackberry & Lemongrass Infusion, St. Germain, Fresh Lemon & White Cranberry Juice. This cocktail is my favorite at Ocean Prime. The Black Orchid came in a martini glass with an ice orb that held an orchid flower inside. The cocktail had aromas and flavor notes of blackberry & lemon that burst onto the palate with a lovely juicy sweetness that refreshed. Jaclyn had the Reposado Paper Plane made with Casamigos Reposado, Aperol, St. Germain, & Fresh Lemon Juice. The Reposado Paper Plane was the National Cocktail Competition Winner of People's Choice Awards. The Ahi Tuna Tartare was made with Avocado, Pickled Ginger, Sour Cream, & Citrus Ponzu. The Tuna Tartare was an elegant raw appetizer filled with fresh, light ingredients. The sushi-grade ahi tuna pieces were generous in size and had a soft texture against the satisfying crunch of the wonton crisps. The Prime Roll was made with Tempura Shrimp, Cream Cheese, Scallion, & Beef Carpaccio. The thinly sliced beef carpaccio sat atop the sushi roll and gave it a savory flavor. The tempura shrimp in the roll had a delicate crunch that folded into the smooth cream cheese. The Ocean Roll was made with #1 Tuna, Salmon, Hamachi, Avocado, & Chili Garlic Oil. The Ocean Roll was fresh and vibrant. The hamachi was smoothly luscious. The chili garlic oil added subtle spice that enhanced the richness of the tuna, salmon, and hamachi. The Sonoma Goat Cheese Ravioli were made with Golden Oak Mushrooms. The ravioli was wonderful - a richly flavored pasta filled with smooth goat cheese. For our seafood main we split the Teriyaki Salmon made with Shiitake Sticky Rice, Soy Butter Sauce. This is one of the best salmon entrees you can find in Denver. The salmon was juicy and flakey and coated in the bold & thick teriyaki glaze. The sticky glaze combined with the soy butter sauce gave the salmon a perfect combo of sweet tang. For dessert we had the Warm Butter Cake made with Fresh Berries, Vanilla Ice Cream, Raspberry Sauce. The cake was piping hot with vanilla ice cream melting atop. The crisp sugar exterior gave way to a densely buttery interior making for decadent gooey bites of the cake.

The food is as outstanding! Danny our server did an amazing job as well, excellent service. We enjoyed the Chilean sea bass and branzino dish along with calamari for appetizers. Every single dish was amazing but the highlight would have to be the Chilean sea bass, absolutely superb! Nice ambiance and we had a nice city view upstairs, highly recommended.

It’s a great place for having with one of the best calamari I ever had. It’s a little expensive but the food is really good. We tried some sushi, calamari lamb chops, ribeye etc. Everything tasted great! Do try the restaurant if you are in Denver downtown. Forgot to mention they have some good vegetarian options too.

We enjoyed this restaurant for a Friday night dinner. The service was excellent. We were seated on time for our reservation, the drinks came out swiftly, and we had time between ordering our appetizers, receiving them, and ordering our entrées. We ordered the crab cake and the surf and turf appetizers, and they were excellent. In fact, the best items we ordered. For dinner, I ordered the jumbo shrimp cocktail, and my husband got the strip steam. And, we got the jalapeño au gratin and the mushrooms for sides. The shrimp and steak were just ok, the au gratin was excellent and the mushrooms were bland. I would definitely go back to try other menu items.

Shannon our server took terrific care of my family and I! Ahi tuna appetizer was fantastic! Steaks done to perfection! Kept us on time for our concert at Ball arena. Thank you again for a terrific night out!!

Birthday dinner ruined! Ocean Prime wouldn't get one star except that Yelp makes you give one. The whole experience was a total disappointment. My husband took me to Denver for the weekend for my 39th birthday. He made a 6PM dinner reservation for Saturday night. We got there a little early and was told we'd have to wait until 6PM, no big deal since we were early. We came back right at 6PM and they still didn't have a table ready and said people were taking longer than expected to complete their meals. Again, we weren't upset, until another couple walked in after us announcing they too have a 6PM reservation and were immediately escorted upstairs to the dining area and we were left in the lobby without any acknowledgement whatsoever. My husband asked the hostess about this and she could only respond that they were doing the best they could. Then a second hostess came over and was really rude to my husband, and because of that, I've decided I cannot give OP another chance. It's one thing to be too busy, and it's a whole other issue when you have rude staff. <br/><br/>One guy did bring me a glass of wine at that point but it was only mediocre and probably their cheapest since it was comped. We waited another good half hour (now about 45 minutes in) and finally were told we could sit in the bar if we liked. Because we had friends meeting us at another location for drinks after, we had to take the only table available to avoid being late to our next engagement. The bar has way too many high tables for the room so it was super crowded, not to mention that the people next to us had 8 people trying to cram around a 4-top, so they kept bumping into me and when one of them just HAD to use his hands every time he talked and kept snagging my hair with his watch. It was way too loud for the nice dinner we had in mind so it was very difficult to have a conversation. The only positive aspect of the entire meal was our waitress. She was very nice and fun to talk to.<br/><br/>Now to the meal itself. We ordered the raviolli appetizer and while it was really delicious, it took way too long for it to arrive. The watered-down sauce it was drenched in was breaking when we got it though, meaning it sat for a while before getting to our table. Knowing we were crunched on time, we immediately ordered our main courses when we realized there was an issue with the cook times. He ordered the NY strip and I ordered the scallops. From the time we got our appetizer until the time we got our main courses was almost a full hour. We asked the manager that came around why it was taking so long and he said it was a computer glich. I'm not sure how or why a computer would cause food not to come out in a reasonable time, and when the people who sat down next to us well after we arrived got their food before us, I decided he was feeding me a line instead of being honest. Great customer service working for you, OP.<br/><br/>When our mains did finally arrive, my scallops were under so I wasn't able to eat them, and his steak was WAY overdone. How does food that should take maybe 3-4 minutes come out under and the steak that should take 8-10 minutes come out over? That seems backwards to me. We didn't even eat our meals and left as soon as the waitress brought out the check; they didn't comp us at all for the meals although we explained they we inedible. <br/><br/>Bottom line: Only if you want to pay WAY too much for utterly underwhelming food/experience, this is where you go. You won't be disappointed. Thank you Ocean Prime for making my birthday so special (yes, this is sarcasm).

While our fresh oysters (which we were told are flown in daily) and mussel appetizer were absolutely lovely, we were less impressed with out soups (though we took them as an upsell) and our entree - salmon with a corn cream sauce and bacon wrapped scallops. It was all very rich and luscious but I was left craving some kind of acid element to help the dish along. <br/><br/> The waiter was attentive, but it felt very superficial and often interrupted us as we attempted to interact with him. Also we were seated by the wait station. There was a waitress that stood there throughout different times in the evening and sang along with the music that was playing throughout the house which was distracting. <br/><br/> Overall this was an "OK" dining experience.... Not the kind of dining experience that has me wanting to come back for more.

Wow. Impressive. So I just stopped for an appetizer on the patio with a cocktail and got more than I bargained for; an amazing meal & experience. Tried five different cocktail from their list. All amazing. The complimentary bread consists of pretzel sticks and a crusty Italian loaf. <br/>Tried two different tenderloins, both fork cuttable juicy and cooked perfectly to medium rare as requested even as baseball cuts. The scallops were perfect, as was the Chilean sea bass that I highly recommend. The bass was perfection, juicy big flakes so tender it fell apart. Both mashed potatoes; regular and the champagne truffle sauced were yummy. And my kid love the fresh off the kernel corn (big kudos on that). The bar & inside dining area was elegant and I only saw part of it as there was an upstairs too. See my pictures for the meals and drinks. Highly recommended.

Service- excellent. Waitress was very familiar with the menu and wine list.<br/>I had the cod special with lobster ravioli. Scrumptious!<br/>Was it worth two bills? Yup.<br/>

This was my last night working in Denver...so my husband and I chose a romantic and quaint Steakhouse located in Larimer. It was ok... Not the absolute best steakhouse but the service and hospitality superseded the food. The waitstaff, strawberry cocktail, live pianist, and creme brûlée... Made up for the average filet.

Great Birthday Meal. Went to Ocean Prime for our daughter’s birthday dinner with her husband. This is probably our 5th visit to the Denver restaurant. For some bizarre reason we always get seated at the same table – which is great because we have a beautiful view of Larimer Street and all the lights. Now on to the food and service – waiter was exceptional and very attentive and our meal from start to finish was fantastic. Steaks were cooked to perfection and the sides were tasty. Highly recommend this restaurant – expensive but worth every penny!

This was a wonderful experience. The service was seamless, the food was delicious, and the room was beautiful. It is everything I could wish for in a perfect testaurant experience.

Delicious 10 oz. filet with Bearnaise sauce, garlic mashed and broccoli. Cheerful, meticulous service. Generously sized and excellent crime brûlée. Great French press coffee. Wonderful food experience and lively atmosphere. BUT it was noisy, and if not with good friends, the expense would not have been worth it to me.

Filet Mignon. Was in Denver for a few days on business.. enjoyed dinner even though I was seated in the bar.. Filet mignon was cooked medium rare the way I like it.. prompt service.. and the music wasn't bad either.. enjoyed my evening. Go later in the evening if you want to sit in the dining room.

Great time, great atmosphere! Food was great- crab cake, calamari, and truffle mac and cheese were highlights! Can't wait to go back!

Outstanding. This restaurant takes serious pride in their product. The most creative and expertly concocted cocktails in Denver, excellent appetizers (the calamari may be the best in Denver), and the service you would expect from a premier steakhouse will exceed your expectations. The a la carte sides may have standard fare names, but they are not standard. The bacon creamed spinach is nothing you'll find at Morton's and the lobster mashed potatoes uses a full tail. You will eat well beyond your stomach's capacity. The bone-in ribeye was excellent but made all the better when topped with their truffle butter. OMG! Should you need to add a bit of suite, you will not be disappointed with their Alaska Bake, another you will not find at Capital Grille or the other local fine restaurants in the area. Bottom line, if you are a foodie with some extra cash or have a special occasion to celebrate and want to do it in style in a restaurant that appreciates you being there, Ocean Prime is an excellent choice.

We sat in the bar and dined on some the most wonderful seafood EVER. Highly recommended

Great place for lunch, quiet and not overcrowded , burger was great too

Outstanding. I loved this dining experience! After comparing it to other restaurants I've visited recently, Ocean Prime topped them all. So refreshing to be catered to and not rushed. The servers, hosts, management, chef and bartenders all get 5 stars from me.

Please don't make me go back..... This place is a joke, right? I felt like I was walking into a fish-smelly Pier 1. The management is obnoxious, at best. And the food is lukewarm, overcooked, and overpriced. Drinks are delicious, but all that crushed ice takes up 3/4 of the glass! I'd like my full $12 worth next time...If I'm forced to go back again with friends, that is. But if I have it my way, I'm heading to Jax or Osteria Marco!

Left ambivalent. I was highly impressed wtih the atmosphere of this place. It really is great & has a sophistication to it of a nice big city place to it. And this place was PACKED! Since we had a bigger group, we were able to sit in the glass room & it really is awesome. <br/><br/>I had some of the wine on the 52.80 menu, which was turned out to be a good selection. A friend had one of their specialty mixed drinks with Hennesey & Honey Jack which even I thought was great & I am not a bourbon fan. <br/><br/>We had the calamari app & it was asian style with good flavor. The salad I got with the meal was pre-mixed with dressing & was a bit lacking in flavor. For the main meal, several in our group had the salmon special which was very tasty. I had the filet oscar & though the presentation on it was beautiful with large pieces of asperagus, my steak was almost well done when ordered medium rare. The server promptly took it to get it corrected, but even on the 2nd time, still no where close to MR. :(<br/><br/>This is extremely disheartening to me for a place that is supposed to be a good steak place. BUT, the management was prompt & attentive in the matter & genuinely nice about the whole thing & showed a sincere level of customer service. <br/><br/>We all had carrot cake for desert & it was PHENOM. Our evening was a bit up & down, but I would consider coming back to give it a 2nd shot.

One of the greatest filets I have ever had! Cool atmosphere but on the pricey side.

Great service. Had the lobster bisque which was great. But the blackened striped bass was flavorless and uneventful.

Most expensive bad experience ever. My parents came into town. they always ask to go to the Oceanaire where we enjoy a great meal; you're prepared to spend $$ because it will be a great experience. We thought we'd try Ocean Prime and compare. Problem is, from the minute we walked in, we were aware that we had to hurry. Our waiter came back every 5 minutes to see if we were ready to order. Once we did order, our food came another 5 minutes later (heat lamps!). We came at 5:30 for our reservation and were out by 7:30. I can't imagine the waiter was trained to do this, but it was so heavy-handed. Never had such a rush job for such an expensive meal -- also mediocre (reheated and not fresh seafood). Do yourself a favor in Denver , GO TO OCEANAIRE.

Unimpresed. Went on a Sunday night and sat at the bar. Not many patrons. Wanted oysters but wait staff advised against it. They were kind enough to let me try one and they were right. Dry, no brine and flavorless and only one type to choose from. What kind of steak and seafood establishment only carries one type of oyster? I ordered shrimp cocktail which was good; three prawns for $16. Slightly higher priced than others in the area. Nice texture but lacked flavor. Went with the chefs selection scallops for dinner. Listed as sauteed with mustard sauce, green beans and onions for $31. Scallops where marginal at best not as good as Jax's down the street. The sauce, beans and onions were good, the sauce lacked mustard taste, more of a cream corn, and the scallops where a bit soggy and not as tight as you'd expect. The price is comparable to other restaurants at $31 in the area but the execution suffered. My total bill was $120 after some chardonnay. Overall I was unimpressed. The cost deliciousness ratio wasn't there compared to other options in the area. I've been to OP three times since they opened and I've yet to have an exceptional dining experience. Cameron is capable of much more than this. His original Ocean Prime in Mich was off the charts when it opened and his Cameron's steakhouse in Birmingham MI is still one of the best I've ever been to even after Ruth"s Chris bought him out. Next time I'll fondly remember the first experience I had at Ocean Prime in Troy, MI and forget the three experiences I've had in Denver and find somewhere else for a great bar and seafood. Somewhere like Jax's.

Sucked. We've been there twice now and both times it was terrible. 25 minutes late for our reservation, over cooked food and mediocre service. Don't bother. Steak houses are a dime a dozen now. Go somewhere else.

It's all in the Details. We recently dined at Ocean Prime for an anniversary. The minute we walked in the door, we were treated like royalty. Two glasses of champagne were placed into our hands and we were escorted to a cozy table by the windows overlooking Larimer Square. It was very romantic and no detail was overlooked. Every person that made contact with us wished us a happy anniversary. The waitstaff was attentive and thorough in explaining the menu and offered suggestions. The food was prepared perfectly and we were encouraged to linger and enjoy ourselves. I would highly recommend Ocean Prime for any occasion.

Wonderful. My wife and I ate there on our one year anniversary and could not have been more pleased. We were surprised with a glass of champagne for each of us when they showed us to our seats. The service was excellent. We were even given a complimentary dessert for our anniversary and the chef wrote in chocolate on the plate Happy Anniversary. We highly recommend it to anyone for any occasion.

Top Notch. Great high end steak and seafood place. Wonderful service and delicious food. Great place for a special night, a celebration or night on the town. Dont miss the bar area upstairs that overlooks the beautiful Larimer Street below (the patio windows fold back and it feels like you are up in the trees). Bravo!

Great service, food was fabuolis steaks were cooked just right and the plates where hot!!!

This was one boring @ss meal in a stuffy as hell dining room. Not a single laugh within earshot and a lackluster menu that is seriously pricey for what you're getting. Definitely had a 'your out of place if you're not schmoozing a client' atmosphere. One time was enough for us, we'd rather be at Morton's if we're doing pricey, predictable steak & seafood fare.

This restaurant is one of the few places on Larimer that offers its diners a chance to truly appreciate the view of a bustling city street filled with people. I especially appreciated seeing the street illuminated by the canopy of lights that make the street so recognizable. On to the food … We started off with signature cocktails - mine bubbled with vigor - and a cold seafood plate. An order of French Onion soup was shared by the table who agreed it was more flavorful than any other previously tasted. We also sampled the Tuna Tartar which was ordered for us by our server who knew his menu well. In a word: Divine. The tuna sat on top of a layer of avocado that provided a delicious crea

Yes, I still have some beefs with this Ohio-based seafood franchise, beyond the fact that it’s an Ohio-based seafood franchise—at the price point of its urban-coastal superiors. But after a recent, somewhat reluctant excursion to its swank downstairs lounge, I have to admit it has its good points.
