Warm, friendly atmosphere, off the beaten path, recommended to us by a chef at a different restaurant. Breakfast and lunch are available. We had a short wait for a late breakfast. Good strong coffee and a special coffee. Enjoyed Joe's balls Sampler. The crab ones were our favorite, and Ellen's should bottle the sauce that accompanied them, excellent. Pancakes were fluffy and not sweet, and I loved the soft, whipped butter. French toast was cooked the way we like it. Crisp on the outside, moist in. Biscuits and gravy were good. I would have liked more sausage. Home fries are good. We wanted the pancake pot pie, but they were out, we were told they sell out fast. We will definitely try again if we're ever in the area.
The food and atmosphere were pretty good. Service was slow for drinks with very few customers. The Bloody Mary left much to be desired and would not recommend; at the price I’d expect more than commercial off the shelf mix and cheap vodka. The breakfast old fashioned was really good. Nice flavor and perfect accompaniment for a hearty brunch.
The food was good. Eggs Benedict were cooked nearly perfectly, minus some personal preference. The pancake pot pie… be ready to get full quick! Sweet, savory, delicious gravy. Well done on that dish.
Our meal was phenomenal. I got the Chicken Fried Steak and I was in culinary heaven. The service was fast, and all the food looked amazing. The restaurant had a good homey atmosphere. I would 100% reccomend if you want breakfast or lunch. If im ever in the area again I will definitely pay another visit
We've been trying to get to this location & had the time to come in. It started a little sketchy because they walked us all the way to the back by the bathroom & the manager's office. But after that it was great. Service was good & so was the food. The breakfast pot pie was good but needed more seasoning & gravy because it was a little dry.
Arrived, and there was a 45-minute wait. That must mean they are busy and the food must be delicious! We waited about 20 minutes, and then I went on and saw the bar top opening up! They said that the area was first come and first served, so I waited. We sat down, and Yesi Jazz B was incredibly amazing. Straight forward, knowledgeable, and accommodating! Was the first time there for me and I will return.
Got there around 11AM and didn’t get seated until 12AM during a Friday. It’s understandable since it’s lunch hour! Not going to complain about the wait. Our service and waitress did an amazing job. We also wanted to thank the cleaning crew too. Everyone was friendly.
First off, I ordered an iced chai latte. The drink is huge, so I recommend ordering it if you’re super hungry that day. I had to take my drink to-go after we left. The drink was delicious. I recommend this drink. I also ordered the pancake pot pie. Our waitress recommended I try it. Apparently, it has been featured on Food Network.
The pot pie wasn’t that good even though I’m a sweet and savory type. Our waitress also gave us tips on how to eat it with small amounts of syrup since it’s also mushy in the bottom layer. I would likely come back to try another meal. This one just wasn’t it for me.
We've found this breakfast cafe during our stay in downtown Dallas. It was a great find. There was a wait for a table so we decided to sit at the bar. Service was friendly but a bit slow. We had the chicken eggs benedict. It was delicious!
We just loved Ellen's. The customer service was spectacular, and our server, Tracye, was simply the best! She made our dining experience incredibly enjoyable and we enjoyed our conversations with her so much. She was awesome and truly added to our wonderful experience at Ellen's.
I started with the Buffalo French Fries and was addicted with the first bite. They are so good!! I couldn't stop eating them. They are my new favorite appetizer. You must order some!
I also ordered the fried shrimp with Mac & Cheese and coleslaw. It was divine! The shrimp was cooked perfectly, and the mac and cheese was full of creamy goodness. The coleslaw offered a nice tang and crunchy bite.
My husband ordered the Big Ol' Biscuits & Gravy and raved about every bite. And our daughter ordered the Chilaquiles and enjoyed her meal as well.
I highly recommend a visit to Ellen's. The customer service is phenomenal, the establishment is very clean, and the food is divine.
The only cons I can bring to one's attention is that it is incredibly busy, so expect a long wait, and parking can be difficult to find, so expect a walk to the restaurant. You have to find street parking with a paid meter or find a paid parking lot. BUT it's SO WORTH IT!
Service was great, food was hot & fresh. Our waitress, Crystal, was so nice & took care of us.
The oatmeal was bland but everything else was really good! We’ll definitely be back to try other options.
One of the best brunches in Dallas. We got the steak and eggs, shrimp and grits, and mushroom garlic scramble. The only one that was lacking a little bit in flavor was the shrimp and grits, but the shrimp on it was awesome. Everything else we got was amazing. Highly recommend the steak and eggs and do a grilled ribeye instead of the chicken fried steak. Sub the French toast for your side toast (it’s only a $1 upcharge and it’s worth it). Will be back for sure!
