Review Pecan Lodge - Dallas

One of the best BBQ places I've ever tried. Perfect texture and flavor balance. Prices are accessible and service is pretty fast and good. We've heard this place gets pretty busy on weekends, but we went on Thursday and it was alone. To eat, we got the 3 meat combo, with pulled pork, brisket and beef ribs, and as a side we got the fried okra that was perfectly cooked, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. On the other hand we ordered a jalapeno sausage that was very flavorful. Finally we had the "Hot Mess" which is a baked sweet potato with barbacoa, cheese and sauces, it was extremely good too. 10/10 highly recommended.

This is the real deal of Texas BBQ experiences... The fact there is a line around the restaurant even at 11:30am tells you it's going to be good, and it was. We each had the 3 meat plates and added a beef rib to share. The meats on offer are Turkey, Pulled Pork, Brisket, Pork Ribs, Sausage Link, and Beef Rib. The beef rib is by weight, and a single rib is about 1lb in weight at $35/lb. It was all delicious. We went for coleslaw as our sides and the plates come with pickled gherkins. Soda is self-serve. You get a table after you have paid, then collect your food from the kitchen service hatch when your order number is called. It was a great experience, and the meat was divine. A Vegetarians and Vegans worst nightmare but heaven for us carnivores. Would love to visit again. All meat is smoked in the on-site smoke house.

It's practically impossible to travel through Dallas without stopping somewhere for barbecue, and this will probably be the best barbecue you've ever had, as long as you don't live in Texas. Regardless of whether you're "into" BBQ, you're probably still semi-aware of the huge barbecue competitions between the Southern states, with each having specialties for sauces, or lack of sauces, and meats. Within Texas, the competition is also heavy, with decent chain BBQ served at gas stations, fast food joints, and in backyards, so ordering BBQ in Texas is like ordering Sushi in Japan (it's even in vending machines). Texas's specialty is beef brisket, so you can probably guess what I ordered. For those of readers that might be familiar with Tennessee Style cafeteria service, this is very similar service, without actually having to stand around and watch what they heap on your plate. The reason you don't have to watch is because of one huge variation in service style. In Tennessee you get a "meat and two," or a "meat and three," which denotes the selection of one protein and a number of sides. The result is they you follow your tray down line and pick from mashed potatoes, corn, baked beans, etc. Here is "two meats and a side," or "three meats and a side," meaning that when you order, your plate disappears to the back of the house and reappears when it's ready. In addition to brisket, I ordered turkey, which is notoriously dry, and a great BBQ challenge. Unfortunately, the turkey wasn't anything to write home to Mom about, so it's a good thing that that's not the main event. Before I get to describing the mouth watering, melt in your mouth, perfectly seasoned brisket that was delivered as a part of my order (totally blew that suspense), I should talk about the price. If you're actually going to sit down and go for some serious BBQ, be prepared to pay top dollar. The combo plus the drink cost a whopping $31 plus tip. The service was friendly, the food was delivered quickly, and my only real complaint is that the Mac and Cheese under performed, it was mushy and a bit bland. Overall, if you're looking for great BBQ, this place has it, but as previously mentioned, this is Texas, so a lot of other places have it as well.

Decent bbq spot in a really lively neighborhood with outdoor seating and sometimes a live band preforming. You walk in and order, I came when there was no line but as soon as I sat down the line was out the door. I ended up getting a combo 2 meat plate with one side and then getting 2 pint sides. The sides were huge, it’s if one or two people you can definitely get away with a single serving. A pint is for 4 people easily. Plenty of tables around and they call you when your food is ready. You go pick it up and it’s no frills at all. The BBQ itself was really really really tender and the Mac had delicious flavor.

Our visit to Pecan Lodge was a flavourful adventure through the world of barbecue, but a few hiccups kept it just shy of perfection. Let's begin with the highlights—the brisket, though mostly spectacular, had a few dry patches that left us yearning for a bit more moisture. While the majority of the meat was succulent and delicious, the inconsistency was a minor setback. The southern fried chicken was another revelation. Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and bursting with flavour, it was a delightful twist on traditional BBQ fare. The homemade sausage was a game-changer; its robust, spicy kick made it clear that Pecan Lodge doesn't settle for anything less than exceptional. The pork ribs were a true testament to the artistry of low-and-slow smoking. Tender, with a beautiful smoke ring and a glaze that added just the right touch of sweetness, they were nothing short of perfection. And then there were the smokehouse nachos—a creative and delicious departure from the typical BBQ sides. Loaded with smoky goodness, cheese, and all the right toppings, they were an unexpected delight. The atmosphere at Pecan Lodge was as inviting as ever, with the enticing scent of barbecue permeating the air. The staff's enthusiasm and knowledge contributed positively to our overall experience, even though we encountered a small hiccup with the brisket. In summary, Pecan Lodge is a BBQ gem, but the dry patches in the brisket kept us from awarding a perfect rating. If the consistency of the brisket can match the excellence found in the rest of the menu, this place would undoubtedly be a five-star destination. Nonetheless, it's still a must-visit for any barbecue enthusiast looking to indulge in a smoky, savoury feast.

Great Texas barbecue. Hands down the most flavorful and tender giant beef rib I had around town. Brisket was also quite good but was a bit drier than my favorite brisket in town, still worthwhile. You order your meats, sides, desserts, and soft drinks at a counter, and they do have beers you can order from the bar. Definitely worth a stop when in town!

Love the giant beef rib and brisket here. So soft. So nice. A little bit on pricer side tho. Definitely one of the best American BBQ I have tried. If you like meat on softer side, this is the place.

Biggest and best rib I've ever had! Excellent brisket. The meat didn't even need the yummy sauce, but it gave it some nice heat. Outdoor seating, friendly service. Loved it

I had the 2meat which was smoked perfectly! I tried the collard greens for my side. Not a fan of sweet greens. I was very disappointed that there was no barbecue Chicken offered on the menu, just fried chicken🤔 My daughter had the "Hot Mess" a sweet potatoe with beef now that was delicious! It was so filling. The brisket sandwich had 3 thick slices of meat that was so tender. Definitely a must try whenever in downtown Dallas. Oh. I also did a take out order of brisket, it did not seem that i got as much meat as dining in

The smell as you walk in… amazing! I’m a vegetarian so I enjoyed the delicious Mac n cheese and potato salad. However, the other guests in the party loved the briquet! Oh, and the cobbler was great too!

Wanted to love this place, but the food was just okay. The beef rib was great, but did not have much meat on it (mostly fat and some inedible tendon pieces). One of the BBQ sauces was also way too runny. It seemed more like a mop sauce.

Best BBQ in Dallas! The Pork ribs are excellent and so is the smoked Turkey, Sausage and sides! Incredible sauces that compliment the smoked meats perfectly. Not only is it better than other Dallas BBQ spots it’s a better value too! Not to be missed BBQ!

Excellent location. Deep Ellum is a really cool neighborhood. I don’t know what would be worth the wait to me in that line with people invading my personal space to that degree. The guy behind me was so close at one point that he was literally in front of me. I couldn’t handle it. It made the whole experience unbearable to me. It wasn’t anything that the restaurant was to be blamed for. Good for Pecan Lodge, I’m sure the food is so good that people at willing to wait, bbq just isn’t worth that to me.

Great place to eat BBQ! Casual and chill environment. Cider was delicious. Fried okra-- yum!! "Hot Mess" sweet potato was amazing!! Get yours before they sell it each day. Would go back just for that! DH enjoyed the brisket and sausage.

Came all the way from Canada for this. BBQ is amazing. Last time we came the line up was insane, happy to see it is a bit easier to get in now, but steady line all day. So happy we came back this year.

Amazing food and good service! I was skeptical about the mac n'cheese, but it exceeded my expectations. The ribs were delicious and the pulled pork was great. I would definitely come back if I was in the area. The price point was also reasonable and the location of this restaurant is in walking distance to other nearby activities. Parking was a chore, but there is a lot about three blocks away. All in all, superb experience.

I ate here on a day out in Dallas while exploring the city. I really wanted to eat BBQ while in Dallas and Pecan Lodge surpassed my expectations. I wanted to eat good BBQ in Dallas and ended up eating mouth watering, absolutely delicious BBQ. I ate the pulled pork sandwich with no sides and I would do it again. The pulled pork sandwich was a little sweet and even the bread was good. There are no vegetarian options besides the sides like mac and cheese, potato salad, cole slaw and so on. The sizes for sides are a single, a pint, and a quart. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for some savory BBQ.

I heard from several trusted sources that this was the best BBQ in Dallas, and it definitely didn’t disappoint. I shared a two meat plate and it was plenty of food. The highlights were the brisket and the slaw (although the sausage and the Mac were really good too). I also loved the assortment of fun soda options (the blueberry soda was tasty). We were there at 5 on a Saturday and it wasn’t crowded, but by the time we left most of the indoor tables were full and a line was starting to build.

The food was alright. After a long cue, the star dishes were out of order. So, I can’t say if it’s good or not. However, the rest that I tried wasn't worth the waiting times that spent. You should arrive at least 2 hours before closing time if you wanna try the best dish here.
