Excellent food and refreshing comfort in the midst of (of course, amazing) seafood. After a cool day, sitting down to hot tea and Sauerbraten with the most delicious gravy was much welcome. We started with the pulled pork fries which were excellent and a very generous portion though all the appetizers looked as satiating and hearty. We unfortunately did not save room for dessert but the cake case was looking tempting. Great atmosphere and service. Quiet between 4 and 5 for an early dinner.
It's weird to find an authentic Bavarian inspired restaurant in a coastal town. I'm glad we found it. The decor is very different. Booths, tables, and a full bar
The food, while not totally German, is close. Very much worth a visit.
Went to the Blue Heron as recommended by our hotel. Massive portions of hearty, tasty food. Wonderful service too! 10 shrimps in the Shrimp Scampi which was too many! Also came with fresh warm bread. Wine was a little pricey.
Food looked better than it tasted. Potatoes were a 10, eggs benedict with ham was pretty good. Eggs benedict with burnt ends was not good; meat too dry to swallow, meat skillet was ok but the sausage had an odd flavor and the restaurant was out of. tabasco and EVERY kind of hot sauce…it was boring. no german chocolate cake? at brunch? on a Sunday?in a Bavarian restaurant-really? and the espresso martini was apparently just khalua and a little vodka-too too sweet. there is an outdoor beer garden.
We were the last table of the night (9/22/2023). Everything about this place was great. The server had a smile and was attentive. The host was adorably bubbly. The food from the bread to appetizer, and main dish were all AMAZING. I will eat there again.
Went there for some brunch today. Felt like I was not in Coos Bay, but in Germany. I got the over 21 Baconator French Toast. It was really good! The taste took me back to when I was at Disney World. Something to point out that is note worthy is that they reward you for paying in cash! Today, we were blessed with a slice of cake for paying in cash. If you don't pay in cash, then they charge you the credit card processing fee of 3.5%. But overall, I really enjoyed this place! They close after 1:30 pm and then open back up at 4 pm. They also have gluten free options as well.
Ok Wow...where is the 10 stars!!!! SERIOUSLY Fantastic flavor...we have searched all over, to much frustration and now we know Coos Bay is no longer a beer town with a fishing problem...it is a German Food Destination!!!
Definitely busy, especially on a Monday when lots of other restaurants around are closed.
Their menu really nickels and dimes; one refill only on soda, 3.5% added fee for credit card purchases, split plate fee and split check limits. Definitely not a great first impression on read.
Food was delicious, however. Great potatoes, great carrots, great beef. The sauerkraut was a little bland compared to others I have ate, not as sharp and pickly as it could be.
Bavarian Perfection in Coos Bay! The owner is extremely nice and puts his heart and soul into this restaurant. With German, BBQ, and seafood options, there is something for everyone. The German dishes are incredible, the homemade bread and cakes make the whole experience even better.
DELICIOUS The owner he is the baker his deserts are. FABULOUS It was my husband and I first time to eat there. The food was a real treat. The experience made us feel that grandma was in the kitchen cooking her heart out! The work from scratch and the skilled dedication the chef provides along with the incredible homemade deserts (lemon cake & carrot cake so yummy). So worth the trip. Highly recommend
Thank you Blue Heron for providing outstanding homemade deliciousness 👍
Excellent service, food, drinks and ambiance. In the end, they even gave me a lush free dessert because I paid cash. I like that the restaurant is not too big or noisy, and families with children go there as well. Finally, the decoration is picturesque and you feel cozy!
This place is awesome! Everything is made from scratch, tastes absolutely amazing and the service, including the owner was super friendly and wonderful. We had a bananas foster, chicken schnitzel, and a Sauerbraten. All were unique and had great flavor combos with perfect portions. We took home some of the in house made desserts and I am so excited to be hungry again so we can try them.
Food was amazing and the service was good, not GREAT, i feel as though the waitresses that waited on us could have been more personable in my opinion, but the food and patio were AMAZING!

What an experience this was! My partner and I were in town for a night and decided to try the Bavarian/Seafood restaurant and I am so, so, SO glad that we did.
The bread they serve to start is phenomenal and the bar never dropped from there. We ordered the Surf and Turf and Oktoberfest entrees so we could each sample a little bit of everything. We ate far too much food and my only complaint is that we couldn’t eat more. Seriously if we could just keep eating so we had a chance to experience everything on the menu we would have done so in a heartbeat. The prices are shockingly fair for the very generous amount of food served, the wait staff was friendly, they have the best clam chowder I’ve ever had in my life, everything was seasoned and cooked JUST right, and I will absolutely come again every time we’re in the area. Bravo.
We had a large group show up on a Friday night. We were met with great service, good drinks and a amazing meal.
Thanks for putting up with us and our volume.
This place will not disappoint .
We're from Salem and in Coos Bay for a couple days, and attracted to Blue Heron by the large menu on the website. I normally go for seafood when on the coast, but was drawn to the the cordon blue Schnitzel...and not disappointed. A large portion, half of which will become tomorrow's lunch or dinner. My wife went with the grilled salmon and thought it was excellent. Two great dishes. We normally forgo dessert, but the freshly baked cakes in the display were too temping. My wife had the carrot cake. As an aficionado of good carrot cake, she thought it might be the best she has ever had. (And from her, that is a compliment!) I had the chocolate peanut butter (gluten free) cake, which was excellent, creamy...and would not have guessed it was GF. Great selection of import and local beers on tap. Okay, the music was dated, but we are old and so what the heck. Nice covered, heated outdoor seating, so our pup could join us. Overall, Adam is a great chef and baker. We liked the setting. Highly recommend Blue Heron.
I gave a 5 star rating & lengthy review, over a year ago, but it disappeared. My review was extremely thorough, very descriptive & had taken a lot of thought. I will say again, this place is absolutely the bomb & if I could, I would drive down, to eat here every week, from Eugene. The first time, it was discovered as we were searching for breakfast & this time, we were on a mission, to eat dinner here. It was fantastic both times & one of these days, we just need to come, not get full & try a bunch of desserts! The first visit for breakfast, I had the Pecan Smoked Bacon Eggs Benedict & my dining partner had the All Meat Skillet. This visit for dinner, I had the Sauerbraten & my dining partner, had the Oktoberfest. I simply adore this restaurant & I hope everyone gives it a try! The photos, just don't give the flavors, any justice.
