Review La Plaza Tapatia - Columbus

Crystal Smyers
Great Mexican supermarket. I absolutely enjoyed the concept of this market, lots of fresh food made daily and available to just take home and eat. There is a hot food bar, a cold food bar, a cold meat and fish case, they have a huge case of their own ice cream and Gelato, their baked goods are out of this world. I was very impressed with all they have to offer. They even have electric carts for the handicapped. There was a slight language barrier. I didn't encounter any English speaking employees but I was able to communicate adequately everything i needed and everyone was very friendly and understanding that I did not speak Spanish. I'm going to work on it!

This supermarket it’s great, great variety of meats, vegetables, fruits all fresh, drinks etc. They have a restaurant (Their foods it’s so delicious 😋🤤), bakery, bar, coffee, candy store and more, this place it’s very nice a lot of latino american foods super nice but for a grocery store that is addressed as international market we could not find Asian goods at all specially Filipino or Asian in general they have products but not much, but the rest it’s great. So if you are not in to an Asian groceries at all than you are okay, their meats and seafoods great quality, and also make sure if you are going to get your groceries go hungry because I’m very sure you will love to give a try to their restaurant, the serve ceviche OMG🤤🤤🤤🤤🙏🏼💯.

This was my first time actually going into La Plaza Tapatia. I couldn't believe what I saw inside. I thought it was some sort of casino or some other kind of venue, but it was 1000 times better, it was a multi cultural grocery heaven! This was a lot cleaner, and better stocked than a similar store I've been to, I'm coming here from now on. All the produce looked fresh and tasty. The butcher/meats counter was clean and organized, everytype of meat, sausage, chicken & pork variations they had on display, mouthwatering. I can't wait to go back and see what interesting new items they have. Even the chip & cereal aisles have dozens of different varieties of products that I didn't know existed. I'm really glad we decided to stop here on the way home. This made my day, that much better, thank you. Gracias.

The staff expertly handled a group of 60 middle school students! We came as the culminating end to theor Spanish 1 & 2 classes. They treated our students with understanding and patience as they practiced their Spanish. Even the customers who came in helped our students. This place had fantastic food for lunch, desserts and so much more. Gracias is simply not enough for all they did for our group. If you are looking for excellent food/groceries, this place is well worth your time!!!

The new Plaza Tapatía is a big update from the old one. There’s a great variety of grocery items to choose from, a big meat and seafood section as well as a coffee bar, bakery, ice cream bar and candy land! The staff is very helpful and friendly. The buffet section has plenty of foods to choose from if you just want to stop in for lunch. Check it out!

All I can say is I found my new favorite spot. The food was amazing. I'll definitely be back again and again and again.

This latino supermarket has moved into their own property in a brand new location. This would be 2.0. If your looking for a modern true full featured mexican/latin supermarket, look no further. I will let the pictures speak for them selves

What an eye opening wonderful place to shop. I was overwhelmed with the Bakery first of all. WOW. Been back twice for fresh Bollos. Meat was great. If they don't have it out.. which is a lot of choices, they will cut it right in front of you. Nice. Have their own candy store, and a sit down bar.

Pretty authentic tasting Mexican restaurant + market! Prices are a little higher than im used to but worth it considering I wasnt expecting to find a place like this out in the middle of Ohio! Visiting from Texas and it was quite a pleasant surprise! Highly recommended if you're looking for some really good Mexican food/groceries.

My go to place to find ingredients for Latin American dishes. The perfect one-stop shop!

If you are looking for Mexican that isn't Americanized in Cbus- head over! This is on the West-side across from Hollywood Casino. The Molcajete is a dish of various meat, seafood, cheese and cactus that will speak to your heart. They have homeade corn tortilla. They have live bands, a traditional Mexican sweets shop that has the most amazing handmade icecream, flavored water (the cucumber will curl your toes) and fresh fruit popsicles. Attached is the Latin grocery that has an amazing bakery, huge meat counter and a sweets shop for every Mexican candy you could every want. I wish my video would post bc these pics don't do it justice. Buy ALL THE THINGS!

Lots of reasonably priced groceries (butcher shop, frozen food, fresh produce, etc.) and premade foods. Nice staff; the line for premade food can get hectic because you also order tacos and burritos from that station, if you like seafood the ceviche is bomb. There is also a bar to enjoy a cerveza 🍻, we didn't try it but the pastry/bread station was crazy busy so i'm guessing it's delicious as well.

Very good food and service. They had a live band playing when we visited

I come from California & this grocery store is the closest you can get to true Mexican out here. My abuelita was adamant about her sweet bread & meats & she would be proud of this place. Very clean, very friendly workers, & very helpful. They will cut your meats at the meat deli for you no problem. They cut my tripe & pigs feet for me so it was ready for me to start my manudo. My daughter always loves going with me & picking out some real good authentic Mexican treats

I didn't wanna leave it was such a nice experience .they have so much to offer. I loved the baked bread isle! They have a loong buffet full of food options and it all looked so delicious. They also have so many drinks and fresh desserts. Ofc you come here to experience and appreciate and uplift another culture so don't expect many American dishes ! Go here you will not regret it. I wish more stores were like this. Let alone the employees were all so nice and eager to help with any questions I had.

Food is not that good and the waiters don't attend to you like they suppose to ....when you need them they are in a group always gossiping I wouldn't recommend this place to no one

Food was amazing and the bakery items were delicious and so fresh. Restaurant could have been cleaner and service could have been better but overall it was good.

Hoy la empleada que recibe al cliente, tuvo una manera horrible de recibirnos al aventar los menús y cubiertos en la mesa que nos asignó... Uno viene a pasar buen tiempo con nuestra familia y por supuesto PAGAR!!!

Ordered a molcajete. Comes with chuleta de puerco, carne asada, chiles toreados, nopal, costilla, langostinos and auténtico molcajete salsa. Guacamole, tortillas, pico de gallo among other goodies for $20. My wife and I share it and couldn't finished it. Taste was good. Service good.

AVOID AVOID AVOID. I was hopeful this place would be as awesome as some people had stated. I am sad to report that was NOT the case. Unless you speak fluent Spanish, this is not the place for you. We placed what we thought to be a very simple order. We even pointed to the # on the menu!

We ordered drinks- the pop was flat and obviously from a 2 liter that wasn’t closed... The chips were from a bag and stale...

When we got food, It was nothing close to what we had ordered. The only thing that was right was that it was chicken, just in no way shape or form the correct chicken recipe. We had to send it back 3 times and end the end we gave up and just ate because frankly we had to get back to work at some point in the day.

The food was just OK- I've definitely had better at other locations ( I'm in no way a Mexican food snob either- this was probably a stop down from what I could make at home) Not only that, it was TOTALLY overpriced.

We won’t be going back and honestly, I hope they close this place down and put something in that’s worth visiting. Very disappointing.

Just say NO. Decided to try something new for lunch and chose this place due to the reviews and location to my work. There is a huge language barrier so you MUST speak spanish to dine here. I asked for a Fajita with no tortilla, after much broken debate with the waitress I thought she understood. I received a plate with shredded chicken, rice and beans, NOT a Fajita. When I told her that's not what I ordered, she was confused. I had to start from scratch and re-explain what I wanted. 2nd plate: cubed chicken with rice and beans. When asked where the vegies were, the waitress was again confused and said she would bring them on the side. It was a very frustrating and highly overpriced experience. I get better service, food and prices at El Vaquero down the road.

Won't be back. This was an adventure failure.

Located about an hour away, in southwest Columbus, and complete with a mariachi band every weekend, La Plaza Tapatia is about as ethnic and authentic one could aim to get when it comes to Mexican cuisine in central Ohio.

Then for our last stop - we headed to a Mexican restaurant & supermarket - La Plaza Tapatia. I'm used to the Mexican grocery stores that are the size of a public restroom - this was like a Kroger!!!
