Review Zen Cha Tea Salon - Columbus

I have dined here on multiple occasions for brunch and have throughly enjoyed the food and friendly customer service. A great brunch menu with a large selection of tea options as well. Highly recommended.

I stumbled in to this place during my lunch break. The service was incredibly friendly and kind. I got the tuna sandwich with curry soup to go. The food was way beyond my expectations. The sandwich was not just any tuna sandwich. It was perfectly seasoned, fresh seared tuna with cilantro, chipotle aioli, and avocado on herbed focaccia bread. I highly recommend this place and I plan to go back for lunch or a future dinner.

We had a really fun tea date this morning. I am not a big fan of tea outside of chai but I tried the full tea service for the following: African red teas - Sahara Sunset and Star From Africa. Middle Eastern teas - Cardamom Ginger and Moroccan mint. Indian teas - Golden Chai and Karak Chai. Predictably I preferred the chai teas but my favorite of all was the Moroccan Mint. My husband and I didn’t eat but our son ranked the food 5 stars (he enjoyed 3 eggs and blueberry pancakes). Definitely worth a try! I should note we didn’t add sugar or milk to any of the teas for the sake of the tea flavor. The spice in chai teas is what I enjoyed the most. We also bought loose tea to go.

Very informative and helpful staff when indecisive. Very calming and relaxing inside....like it's not on one of the busiest streets in downtown Columbus. The tea service is wonderful for unwinding and relaxing. Loved this place and will be back!

ZenCha lives up to its name. Our waiter was a gem, providing superb hospitality. Every element of the service was intentional and made for an immersive dining experience. The food was absolutely incredible. Each dish could have stood alone as the star from the soup to the quiche. They also gave me a free bubble tea for my birthday! I will be back and I will be recommending to others!

This place was lovely! Unfortunately I was in a hurry so I had to get my tea to go. However, I liked the place so much I've already sent friends there. The service was excellent! Wonderful tea selection, and most of all, the energy inside is great. The man who made my order was delightful.

I ordered the Matcha latte which was very delicious! The lavender pancakes were the best! Highly recommend. Service was a little slow, but well worth the wait.

I have been here roughly 15 times. I am amazed by the food, tea, and friendly service each time!! I have never had bad food or tea I dislike. Great place for people who like tea and want to try new teas. Service is always friendly and engaging

Nice and quiet place with nice decor. The food was amazing and the owners were very sweet and attentative. The tea selection was cool to see and very flavorful. So worth stopping by for lunch before my flight, and I hope I can visit Columbus next year so I can come by again!

This was the furthest I walked from the convention center, and it was so worth it. An incredible offering of tea and tea experiences, as well as food! My bubble tea was delicious and much taller than I expected.

Not a friendly place. Met by less than welcoming host/staff and suspicious stares. Made to feel like it was a real bother that I was there. Will not return to this location. Short north location was awesome!

Boy was I in for a huge surprise! The atmosphere was lovely and the tea soothed my throat. I absolutely recommend the blueberry infused lavender with caramelized bananas Waffles - impeccable!

One Hit, But Too Many Misses. This was my first visit to ZenCha in Bexley and it might be my last, based on the service and food. On the plus side, their tea menu is very extensive, with a wide variety of teas from England, China, Thailand, Japan, Germany, and even Africa...and I may have missed a country or two! They also have a large menu of tea-based drinks that they create themselves. My tea was very good, but it took 30 minutes to actually have it brought to the table...and I ordered a non-specialized black tea. Seriously. I was getting ready to ask if they had forgotten my tea order. I needed some sweetener, so when she brought the tea out, I asked if I could get some and it was never delivered. Good thing I carry Sweet-n-Low in my purse. I don't know why they don't keep the containers on the tables. But wait, it gets better .

I placed my order from their brunch menu, which consisted of the Egg in a Basket. It's two eggs cooked inside a hole made in two pieces of wheat bread, served with a side of bacon and a potato hash mix. I asked for my eggs to be over-easy and the bacon to be turkey bacon. I placed my order at the same time as my tablemates (about 4 other people). The orders were delivered about 35 to 40 minutes later. Again, seriously? How long does it take to make some pancakes, some waffles, and a bowl of soup? However, MY order wasn't among those delivered. We figured it was on its way, but after 15 additional minutes, my husband got up to try to find a server to inquire about the order. It seems they "lost" it. Not sure how that happened since it was with hubbys, but okay. So, the order was "rushed" out about 10 minutes later and was horrible! The eggs were cooked so hard that they were the consistency of hard-boiled eggs (I'm NOT exaggerating). The turkey bacon was not cooked through, and the potato hash, while cooked, was cold, so it was obviously sitting back in a container, thrown on the grill for a couple of minutes, and then put on the plate. Due to a stomach issue, I can't eat foods that are too dry (hence my "over-easy" egg order), so even though I tried, I was unable to eat the eggs, and the bacon and potatoes were just disgusting. A server never came back to see if everything was ok...for any of our meals. The food dishes were never cleared away, nor were we asked if we wanted to order additional tea. When the bill was delivered (interesting how they managed to come back around for that!), they did give me 50% off my meal, but seriously, with all of these problems, the food portion should have been completely written off. A manager also never visited to discuss the matter or to apologize.

And finally, the sink/water in the woman's restroom didn't work. They had a sign up apologizing and telling you to reach under the sink and turn the water knobs on to use the water, so I tried that. You have to bend way down and reach way up into the dark to find the knobs, and then water shoots out of a leak from another part of the water hose serving the spigot. The other option was to use hand sanitizer. The toilet wobbled and the restroom had a horrible sour stench to it; however, everything seemed to be clean and the toilet paper was well stocked.

As I said, I don't know if I'll go back. My friends really enjoyed the different drinks and teas, so if I go with them again, I'll only get a drink and maybe bring my own food. All-in-all, it was a very disappointing and bad experience all around. Such a shame.

-----20 Aug, 2014-----

A Few Hits, Too Many Misses. Customer Service. The customer service needs a lit bit of help.

Terrific New Bexley Restaurant!. My wife and I have been to the new ZenCha Tea Salon several times.

Their weekend brunch menu is delectable. We recently had the quiche, which was especially good. The other folks at our table had strata and pancakes, and they also cleaned their plates.

We've also been there for weekday lunches, and their salads and sandwiches are fresh and full of interesting flavors.

Don't leave without ordering the creme brulee sampler: three different flavors, all incredible, and beautiful presentation.

We have learned a lot about tea by frequenting this restaurant. We bought a package of tea and a teapot to give as a gift, and it was very warmly received.

This restaurant is peaceful, beautiful and spotlessly clean. A wonderful addition to the Bexley food scene!

Michael Armstrong Bexley Ohio
