Review Tommy's Pizza - Columbus

Last night, I had the pleasure of dining at Tommy's Pizza, and it was an experience I won't soon forget. As a pizza aficionado, I'm always on the hunt for that perfect slice, and Tommy's did not disappoint. From the moment I walked in, the aroma of baking dough and simmering tomato sauce filled the air, setting the stage for an authentic pizza experience. The ambiance of the restaurant was cozy and inviting, with a charming Italian decor that made me feel like I was dining in a little pizzeria in Naples. The menu at Tommy's is a delightful mix of classic and innovative pizzas, each one sounding more tempting than the last. I settled on their signature Margherita and a specialty meat lover’s pizza. The crust on both pizzas was exceptional – perfectly thin, crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. The toppings were fresh, flavorful, and generously applied, with the tomato sauce striking a perfect balance between sweet and tangy. What really elevated the experience was the staff's warmth and attentiveness. They were knowledgeable about the menu and happy to make recommendations. The service was prompt without feeling rushed, adding to the relaxed dining experience.

Still the BEST pizza and subs in town! Their fried cauliflower is also delicious. A true institution!! Call ahead for dine-in times or order take out.

Tommy’s was a household staple growing up and now there’s not a location close by, so when we were near campus, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get some. Never dined in before (we always got carryout before), but decided to switch it up. The pizza is still good, hot and cheesy, and the appetizer sampler was good too.

Where to start with Tommy's Pizza? Well I've lived in the Columbus area for over 18 years and have never eaten at any of their locations - I know that's almost blasphemous. To my defense I've always lived on the NE or E sides of cbus. I decided to make the trip on 01/25 to the Upper Arlington location and give it a try. I called to order pickup at 6:30pm, the line was busy - didn't even think that was still possible in 2019. Called back a few minutes later, phone rang 10 times then someone answered and said "Tommy's can you hold." I said sure, then was on hold for another couple minutes. Not a great start so far. I ask if I can place an order for pickup, the person said it'll take an hour, to which I replied no problem. So I place my order - a large pepperoni and pineapple, a large sausage and green pepper, a meatball sub, broccoli bites, and cheese balls. The person doesn't tell me how much the total is and just says bye. Not really a big deal, but they're not off to the best start. So I wait an appropriate amount of time and set out on my drive, trying to time it so that I arrive after an hour has elapsed. Based on my GPS it looked like I was going to arrive a couple minutes early, so I stopped and got a car wash. I finally reach Tommy's and it has the old school charm from the street with their old fashioned sign and building. However I quickly noticed their parking lot was packed full, so I double parked at the pet supply store next door, figuring I'd be in and out since at this point it was an hour and 5 minutes after I ordered. I walk inside, pay my bill and the cashier says "We'll let you know when it's ready" Hmmmm perplexing considering it's already been longer than an hour. So I stand there, 5 minutes pass, then 10, now I'm getting worried about parking at the pet store, figured plenty of people do it and they probably get towed. So I nervously walk out front and very quickly check on my car - it's fine, no tow truck in sight. Walk back in and continue to wait. Another 5 minutes pass, I repeat the check on my car and walk back in. Finally after waiting a total of 20 minutes they have my order ready, which makes it an hour and 25 minutes after placing my order. So at the point I'm pretty irritated and thinking to myself this pizza better be worth it. I get home and check the order, it's all correct which is a good sign, pizza looks great, has ample toppings. All the additional stuff I ordered looked great as well. Now to the good part, despite the issues with ordering and picking up, it was absolutely worth the hassle. All the other reviews I read said the crust was cracker thin, and this is only sort of true. When I hear that description of a crust it makes me think of Rubino's which I didn't particularly like. Tommy's crust while thin, was crispy, flakey, and delicious, definitely a bit thicker than cracker thin. The sauce/cheese/toppings were all fresh and excellent quality. The meatball sub was awesome, you can definitely tell the meatballs were homemade. The bun was a bit soggy even though they double wrapped it in aluminum foil, but that's easily rectified by just toasting it at home for a little bit. The cheese balls were golden deep fried and tasty. Lastly the broccoli bites - it was like eating cheesy broccoli casserole inside the same golden deep fried shell that the cheese balls had. The pièce de résistance, however, was their ranch. Hands down the best ranch in the city. It's homemade and spectacular. I recommend getting a pint with your order if you carry out so you have extra at home. Overall the quality of the product far outweighs their customer service and was totally worth it. My personal rating for the pizza is a 4.9, ranch is a 5, sides are a 4.7 and customer experience is a 4. Overall I would rate Tommy's a 4.8. Since Google doesn't allow decimal reviews I rounded up to a 5. I will definitely be back in the future and will just plan on their quoted pick up time being off due to how busy they are.
All About My Art
There's only ever going to be ONE Tommy's Pizza and when it's gone, there will never be another. I'm still sad the Tommy's I grew up with on the far east side no longer exists. The Pandemic and its sad aftermath had me terrified we would lose Tommy's Upper Arlington. I hope this store can get back up to speed with a full staff so people don't think they're closed and so they can keep up once people know they aren't. I'm still not 100% certain that what happened to eastside Tommy's won't happen to Upper Arlington Tommy's. The tastes are the same (the taste of MY childhood) at these two locations. If this one goes, it would be so terribly tragic. I'm starting to feel like the old man in a Barry Levinson film (Avalon, 1990): The old man returns to the old neighborhood and everything's changed. He begins recounting all the places he loved that are gone now until, at last, he sees that one of those beloved places is still standing. "Thank God," he says... "I was beginning to believe I didn't exist." Please people, keep this place existing. In the meantime, and until this store is once again fully staffed, this is Tommy's Upper Arlington's post-pandemic schedule: Mon: 11am - 4pm* Tue: 11am - 10pm Wed: 11am - 4pm* Thu: 11am - 10pm Fri: 11am - 10pm Sat: 4pm - 10pm Sun: 4pm - 10pm * Subs must be ordered BEFORE 3:15pm on Mon & Wed.

Best pizza ever. Consistent flavor for decades. I live in a different state so I am lucky to get it once a year and it is deliciously consistent.

My client and agreed to have Tommy's Pizza two days ago. She has years of experience with them and just raved over them. Now I can rave! The crust was perfection, rhe sauce was not too sweet or bland, the toppings were ample and to perfection in flavor. Every ingredient was well balanced to make the perfect bite. I was inside only a moment but what I saw invited me to linger and relax for a spell. Quite charming, it was. This will be my and my son's next dinner out together. YUM!!

Literally the BEST and biggest meatball sub I've ever had. The pizza was so, so, so mouth watering delicious. I can't believe it was my first time. It definitely won't be my last!

A Columbus staple from way back. Tommy's is on everyone's list of places to eat pizza and for good reason, Columbus thin crust at its finest. Family dinning, friendly atmosphere, and excellent pie with Pepsi and Columbus IPA on tap. My only dig is they are sparse with the sauce

Had to comeback from Florida to get great crust

One of my childhood favorites. The place is old, the decor is dated, and the pizza is timeless! The staff are fantastic and really capture that great old school service. Get just pepperoni and it comes on a crispy thin crust with the pepperoni curled up and crispy around the edges. I just ate some and still is making my mouth water!

Best pizza ever. So thin and flaky, crisp and delicious. I ate a large by myself. Didn't even have time to take a picture.

Went here on a date and the pizza was the bomb. Great salad and I love the ranch dressing too. Great staff!
