Review Monica's Taco Shop - Colorado Springs

Shane's Worlds
One of the best taco shops for sure! I passed it for two years driving by not stopping because it looked a little bit ghetto. I’ll tell you what though the ground beef tacos are amazing. They give you your monies worth of toppings. The hibiscus flower tea red one, is so dam good🏆 Tip them, also get red and green sauce!

Been my favorite place for Mexican drive through for 10+ years, they were the cheap burrito that still tasted amazing when I was broke and eating cereal most nights so this is a fond memory for me. I still enjoy this food despite not being as broke, but their red sauce is AMAZING. The staff is always pleasant and friendly too, which I’m sure isn’t always easy when you’re in a drive through off Filmore. Always try to put a couple bucks in the tip can, every little bit helps these days!

Great food and extremely friendly staff. Highly recommended taqueria. Chimichanga 9/10

Great fast food chain! Food: really good. I am partial to the breakfast burritos and quesadillas. Horchata here is also tasty good! Only downside is the limit the salsa which is made in-house and is quite delicious (I like the green salsa) Service: quick and friendly! Price: pretty good considering the quality and quantity of the food!

Used to eat there a lot when I worked around the corner. Good food for a cheap price. They had a different cook there for a while and the food quality went down. Better cook now and they open at 5 am.

We to this “taco shop” (it’s soooo much more!😊) a few months back dropping my grandson off at CC. Did not see ceviche on the menu- & decided to order something else similar. When we got back to our hotel rooms I could not believe it!! The gentleman cooking in the back without ever saying a word! had prepared the BEST SHRIMP CEVICHE I ever ate in entire my life!! Between Arizona- California- Nevada- & now Colorado! THE ABSOLUTE BEST!!! It was all so fresh! And it was a large order- late- that’s why to go. Had to confirm with my grandson name of the restaurant to make sure to write this review. The 5-Star rating equals a 10! It’s been a few months & I can still see & taste that ceviche like it was yesterday- so awesome! Will definitely be back there. THANK YOU!!!

Growing up in San Diego, I've been spoiled with good mexican food, and no where else in the country is the same... Until I came to Monica's. I bumped into the owners about a year later, turns out, they're from San Diego, which explains why this place is so amazing!

I have been raving about Monica's Taco Shop ever since I came back. I think it's absolutely amazing, with the exception of some tacos, but it's cheap and delicious. For the price, it's absolutely worth it. Every time I visit Colorado, I visit Monica's Taco Shop because it's dirt cheap. You can order every single taco for under $20-25. I call that a bargain! For the taste, I absolutely love it. Maybe because I'm being biased because it's so cheap, but it's still so good! I've only bought their tacos because I'm not fond of "plates," since I don't like beans and rice. For their customer service, I've only interacted with their cashier, and they, meaning two people from two different locations, were really nice and kind. If you wanted any extra utensils or napkins, they provide it. Overall, I'd return to Monica's Taco Shop to eat over and over again. TAKE MY MONEY!

Amazing! Breakfast burrito: chorizo, egg, potato and cheese. So good. And I love a staff that is having a good time, made for a great morning stop. In my top 5 local taco shops.

I called early one morning and ordered 16 burritos for our office. I was a little concerned because the person on the phone didn't read back my order or ask any questions. They were ready on time and each burrito was labeled! They were hot and PERFECT. Thank you!!

Wow, really good chicken taco, red sauce and green sauce. I'll be back for sure! Great price and friendly service too. 👍 Drive thru is always a plus. Update: I go out of my way (from Monument) to visit here regularly. The red sauce and carne asada are absolutely the best in Colorado. (Insider secret:. Get extra red sauce w/ your order, mix it with ketchup and eat it with fries 🍟... BOOM! YOU'VE GOT MCMONICA'S! {lol} -- it's so good, try it!)

Monica’s Taco Shop is the best food that I’ve eaten here in the state of Colorado that is comparable to the great Mexican food in CA. Prove me wrong.! Keep up the great work and great tasting food. Staff is great too.

Got the carnitas tacos to go. They were good! I definitely think it’d be even better if it was hot. Definitely bussin tho! The red sauce is spicy. So dank! Thanks for reading.

Building is older and has a problem with flies, but the food is great and the employees are very friendly and cook well. Love the food here

Great place for a quick delicious meal. I did take out, but they have a decent dining room as well. Super friendly, busy and they include all the yummy toppings anyway you like. Try both salsas - yum!

we get the breakfast burritos. we like them, except once in a while you get an egg shell but it's still good food. they are always quick ans cheerful

there is no manager - mexican restaurant people that work there are two families that own it. they always get my order wrong or, for example, my two shredded beef enchiladas are barely filled or they end up being cheese enchiladas

Love this place! People complaining that it's not very good either ordered the wrong thing (chicken burrito) or know nothing about authentic Mexican food. Try the sausage egg and cheese breakfast burrito, like no other one in town. Try the carne asada tacos, plate or fries straight goodness. The salsas are Devine and I love to smother my food with them. If you want lighter without meat the chili relleno burrito is fantastic as well. The place may not be the fanciest but the food is legit.

Hello,

I would like to say this place was non the less disappointing. I placed a order that took 40 minutes to receive, but wait.....I asked the guy if it was cheaper to get a combination meal. He started saying he could charge me for this and that, not making any sense. I was taking a lunch break and didn't have time to be wasted trying to figure out what this guy is saying so I just said keep my order 3 tacos and a tostada. Keep it simple....the guy repeats the order to me and hands it to me. As I got back home to eat real quick the order was completely wrong. I called to ask to speak to the manager, a lady picked up and did not give me a name who said she was the manager and then the manager is gone? well ....which one is it.....obviously lies are being told like what a little kid does when they know they messed up. I asked let me speak to you manager and her final answer was hes gone....well do you have a number? No I don't...so let me get the straight it took for ever to make my order which was simple, being followed by threatening attitude to get charged even more if I wanted a combination plate, to just messing up my order to just lying to me. But wait.....I asked if the woman if the manager will be there tomorrow? she said yes. Day two........ I come back to the place hoping for some type apology and a refund, but once again same old thing. The gentle behind the counter was Paul ...stating he was the manager after a couple seconds of looking around for who would play manager. I told him my situation and he walks away without a care in the world. I am taking it further because that is simply not how to treat customers, and it seems like they (the crew) are used to this behavior. That is unacceptable and please see me on other review sites where I post more reviews of Monicas Taco Shop located in colorado springs on Fillmore. God bless you all at Monicas Taco Shop and thank you for letting me see you for who you really are. Hope this helps. :) Thank you all.
Twice now super salty runny chicken. The regular chicken burrito is simply bad. Salty and bone pieces mixed in
The grilled chicken burrito is meat only without any normal ingredients. Rice beans and sour cream. It was extremely salty.
It was once good but has fallen far fast

Excellent food & Excellent prices. Food was great. Carne asada burrito was good... reminded me of good carne asada burritos back home in San Diego, CA. The prices are very good too. Not an impressive place-but the food makes up for it.

Awful. Ate here about 5 years ago. Had a couple of tacos. They were huge but disgusting. I believe they were supposed to be fried tacos but they were just a greasy mess. Threw it out after a couple of bites, will never go back. People say how great this place is-I think it's because it cheap because the food doesn't warrant such a high rating. If you want excellent Mexican food try Pueblo Viejo instead.

Best Mexican Food so far.. We moved here from Georgia and finally found Monica's. So far we find it to be the best. We lived in Phoenix, Reno and then GA, so we know good Mexican food. She gets and EXCELLENT.

Kind of blah food in a blah place. I had the no 9 chicken tacos with rice and beans. Perfectly tasteless. The only saving grace was the hot sauce in the dirty ketchup bottle.

I love Monica's...my wife is from the springs and when we come back to the springs we always eat here a few times. I always get a cabeza taco no matter what I get. The only thing I don't really care for are the fish tacos. This is definitely my favorite taco shop.

This was an okay place to eat. Had a carnen asada burrito and the gf had a carne asada taco. The burrito had shredded beef while the taco had small cuts of beef interestingly. There was a ton of food in the tortillas but we both agreed the beef had an odd taste. Not bad but odd. They also use a lot of cilantro but I do see that as a good thing. I would go again but I don't see it as being a holy grail of Mexican food like my favorite back home, El Tapatio in Sedalia, Mo.

Huh?. Very difficult to comprehend the positive reviews. I tried the breakfast burrito, and it wasn't just bad it was outright un-edible. That's correct, it was not fit for human consumption. With that being said, I have noticed how Colorado Springs typically refuses to support good food yet has deep affection for extremely low quality food.

Everything about it was disgusting, a super nasty greasy tortilla housing a mixed up pile of crap is what comes to mind. It is no surprise to me that a cricket was found by one reviewer. The cricket was probably more edible than the rest of his burrito. Anyone who likes this place has no idea what real food is. Stay far away if you have any inkling of self respect within you.

Afforadable & Tasty. Ate here last night on our way out of the Springs, and it was a great choice! It's nothing impressive or fancy, but the food is flavorful, and they give you tons of it! My husband and I both ordered the carne asada burritos based off one of the reviews, and they were packed FULL of beef, and we both really enjoyed them. It is a go to stop if you are looking for something on the fly and want a tasty more authentic mexican food experience.

A favorite for years. Where to begin? Monica's is delicious, authentic and affordable. I have NEVER been disappointed, and that's not an exaggeration. My favorite menu items are the carne asada burrito, the carne asada plate, any of their enchiladas, the shredded beef tacos, and all of their breakfast burritos. I recently tried the chile relleno, and that was great, too! And the tortillas (corn and flour) are good enough to eat on their own - which I've done. Many times. Whenever I am away from home, Monica's is the restaurant I miss the most. Sure, I am fond of some of the more "upscale" eateries in town, but Monica's is simply Mexican food for the true fan.

Heaven Is Walking Distance From Home. I love Monica's. The carne asada burrito is about two bites away from heaven, I'm fairly certain. I prefer the green salsa, but both are flavorful and make an excellent addition to your meal. If you really want a delicious heart attack to-go, the carne asada fries (all the ingredients of the burrito, served over fries--messy and mind boggling). My only complaint is that this is not a place that serves late when you have that post-beer desire for deep-fried happiness.

Just ok. Authentic but nothing special. We tried tacos and enchiladas. I wouldn't go again. I don't know if there are better places in colorado springs, but I know there are better places in wichita.

Wendy's reincarnation. Easily the best chili relleno and beans anywhere near here. ditto the fish tacos.

Good Chicken Tacos. I love their chicken tacos! For under $2, you can't beat them. They are stuffed full of chicken, cheese, and lettuce, and you can top it off with their green or red sauce (I use both!) You can tell that the taco shells are home made, because they are nice and crispy, and greasy!! I do not care for the beef tacos tho, they just have an odd flavor, to me. I go there at least twice a month!

Great Food. Ate here when i was stationed at Fort Carson It wa sopen 24/7 then wonder if still is?

The shredded beef tacos are very good. I am not a fan of the Red chili sauce on the chicken.

Ole.. Great tacos. My wife had the carne asada taco and it was great and stuffed full. I had the shredded beef taquitos with guacamole and they were good as well. Great food at a great price and two easy locations, what's not to love?

Only had a few bites of a friends chicken burrito but found me a bone over an inch long. A tiny piece I could understand, but jeesh! Will try again and post again...

Authentic Mexican food!. I've only eaten here twice so far, but here are my observations: (1) The tortillas taste like they're fresh from a tortilleria. (2) Both the carne asada and California burritos are delicious. (3) The green sauce is heavy on the cilantro and quite tasty. Monica's reminds me of my old college haunts in Tucson - Nico's, Viva Burrito, and Los Betos. I will be back!

After reading the mostly rave reviews on Yelp, I had to try Monica's... Let me just say that I was not overly impressed. Carne Asada Tacos - $2.15 Each A cheese quesadilla, two carne asada tacos, chips and guacamole, and an horchata came to almost $15, not exactly cheap. The quesadilla was nothing special, the tacos came on greasy tortillas that tasted like they were fried in dirty (fishy) oil, and the guacamole, and I use that term loosely, looked like the stuff from a tub that you get on nachos at Little League baseball games and was smothered all over the chips (fried in the same fishy grease) and topped with a little cheese.
