Review Uwe's German Restaurant - Colorado Springs

Tyler Ritterpusch (Marchbaby)
Fantastic food and atmosphere, we have been going for years. Their Veal Wienerschnitzel is fantastic as is their fried potatoes and bread. Highly recommended if you are in the Colorado Springs area.

This was the first time I'd had German food before, and I will say it's quite good. I can't remember the name of the dish I had as it was quite complicated, but regardless, the main entreè wasn't too bad, the gravy was quite good. But the main thing I loved the most was the appetizer which was Creamy Green Bean Soup; oh my lordy this was so good. It was a fantastic combination of both Cream of Mushroom Soup and the unique flavor of Green Beans. I only wish that it was a larger portion or that you could order a larger portion of it. The only reason I gave the food a 4 star instead of 5 is due to the small selection of food. The selection was quality but none of it seemed super super appetizing. I'll still highly recommend this place and certainly plan to visit again!

Took my German mother-in-law for lunch. We enjoyed a wonderful meal. Her bratwurst and sauerkraut plate was flavorful and filling. I have not had better sauerbraten anywhere! The beef was tender and delicious. The potato dumplings and red cabbage completed the plate beautifully. We enjoyed a couple of German white wines, suggested by our server. The service was great and prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food served. I truly enjoy the cute, European style decor, and the homey feel of Uwe's.

We wanted something different and nostalgic. This place delivered on both fronts. The food was good and priced at about $20 per plate for dinner (they serve lunch too). MUST MAKE A RESERVATION! They have very few tables in the restaurant. The atmosphere is very minimal but it doesn't matter when you get your food, They have a vegetarian option for those who need it which I appreciated. The location is also a little sketch and reminds me of a diners, drive-ins, and dives episode. But give it a try when you want some real German food.

If you're looking for the most authentic German experience in the city, this is the place to go. The food will surpass expectations, and anybody who came up with German/European grandparents, expect to be reminded of their house. It's that kind of authenticity that sets this place leagues above anywhere else in the city.

Food and staff are great! Lunch is extremely affordable and the service was surprisingly quick. The only thing I had any problem with was the saurbraten was surprisingly mild. This may just be a personal taste thing as I like things tangy.

The food was delicious. The staff are very friendly.

The food here was amazing! It was very authentic, it was like eating in Germany. Several customers we spoke with had all lived in Germany and raved about the food. Other customers were German. The service was also spot one. Great place, highly recommend.

Delicious! I started dinner with the goulash soup and German rye bread then I had the Jaegerschnitzel with red cabbage and fried potatoes, great meal. I don't live here but would reccommend it id you are looking for authentic German food.

My parents are in their 90’s and for years this has been their favorite restaurant. We lived in Germany for 2 years and the food at this place is as good,if not better, than the food we had overseas. You will not be disappointed with anything you choose off the menu.Owners and staff have been like family to us.The Scimemi family loves you.

Fantastic food in a wonderfully welcoming environment! I had the cream of green bean soup, bread with butter, potato dumplings, spaetzle, sauerbraten, apple strudel, and my favorite Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier. Everything was amazing, but the sauerbraten was my favorite. The team was friendly and the live music along with the German decorations set a wonderful theme. I'll definitely be back!

As a German woman, I'm pleased when I find great German food. Uwe's has, by far, the best food. I get the weiner schnitzel and am always beyond satisfied. The portions are large enough that I have to take some home with me.
Teresa Sullivan
Love this place! Food is great and everyone is friendly. I like it much better than the "other bigger" German restaurant in town.
Maureen
Their food is super authentic and their wait staff are very kind and friendly. Portions are decent and their prices are just right for German food. The parking is sometimes difficult due to limited spaces, but the food is worth it.
Terri Sharp
I love this restaurant. I have been going there close to 30 yrs. The memories with my mom and her friends are priceless. The food is phenomenal. Highly recommend the taste of Europe.

Family owned for over 30 years. Truly authentic German cuisine. Many consider it to be the best German food in El Paso county.
Quinton Bodry
Even before I was born my family has been dining here. I will always make this place a stop when I'm visiting in from out of state. Be sure to consider calling in to make reservations. You will not be disappointed 🍀

It's stupendously good. The Roulade is so yummy. The salad is great too. The atmosphere is awesome. Service was prompt, friendly, and fast.
Kim Linnebur
Very good place to eat and bring home leftovers for lunch the next day at work. I'll definitely be returning!

One of the better German places in town, its authentic but a little run down. Service is good, but this place is no where as good as I'm use to back in Cincinnati where they have tons of great German delis and eateries. I've eaten at four other German places since then and overall if your craving German food In Colorado Springs I suggest going here.

Most authentic German food in town.... Having had friends from Germany come and stay in Springs..... They give Uwe's the German Duetsch Seal Of Approval... From the Beer's to the REAL German Server's....... Salad.... Schnitzel..... Also the Weekly Special's....Rouladen is Excellent!!! Wunder Bar..... Super....

An absolutely great German restaurant. Food just like my mom used to make me. On my visit I had the roulade. It was tender and very flavorful. With it I had the potato dumplings, red cabbage and side orders of sauerkraut and hot German potato salad. They all were very, very good. My wife had the sauerbraten and raved about it. She had the house German salad with her meal. It was just like I had in my childhood. It had lettuce, cucumbers, potato, onion and a very good dressing on it. I had the Hungarian goulash soup with my meal and enjoyed it very much. The light rye bread they serve went perfect with the meal. We finished with the Bavarian apple strudel with whipped cream. It was deliciously warm and a perfect end to our meal. Portions were large and were had enough to take home for another meal. This is real home cooked German food. Prices are very reasonable for what you get. Our service was great. Don't pass this place up.

Fabulous food at very reasonable price. I almost did not try eating here for lunch because the prices were so inexpensive. I am glad I did. Very authentic German food that tasted great. The portion was definitely dinner sized and way more than I usually eat for lunch.

Food and service. I took the wife, girls and granddaughter for the wife's birthday, it was great as always, and the service was the best, thanks. We all loved it

Wonderful place. My wife and I went there on a recommendation from a co-worker. We love going to local resturaunts and finding the diamonds that many of us miss. Pulling up to the resturaunt, in a mini strip mall, the parking lot was packed. I'm glad I made reservations. Every table in a the resturaunt was taken. They have a bigger room on the side for events and it was booked for the night. We arrived early for our reservation, but they had us in a table in 10 min. Food was excellent in a very comfortable atmosphere, without all the foo foo of Edelweiss. Reasonable beer selection with plate prices that are lower than the food is worth. Truly a hidden diamond. Give them a try.

Generally good. Pretty good overall, great veal cordon Bleu. Frozen mixed veggies for a $20 meal was odd. Good beer. Good service. German sides are just weird, certainly not the restaurants issue.
Amnblack
Ate lunch here today. The staff was friendly and attentive. I had the Hungarian goulash and my friend had the jäger schnitzel. Both were good. The spaetzel was fresh and yummy. The beef was average. The veggies were obviously frozen and a bit rubbery. I had never been to an exclusively German restaurant. This didn't seem like the best I could imagine but it wasn't bad either. I did vote above because I didn't NOT like it, but I wasn't crazy about it.
TheTimMan
I followed the recommendations and had a great meal. Don't miss the Hungarian goulash soup with chunks of tender roast beef in a spicy broth. The veal was as tender as anything I've had.
Don't -- don't -- leave without having the apple streusel, even if you have to carry it home in a bag after such a full meal. The streusel is more like apple pastry than apple pie and can't be neglected.
I think they take reservations here. It's a good idea to try to make one since the place was packed when I arrived 10 minutes after the doors opened on a Saturday night.

Uwe's: Great German Food, Outstanding Value. Meals are preceded by fresh pumpernickel bread and an assortment of German potato salad, crisp greens, tomatoes, and cucumbers topped with a light vinaigrette dressing or soup.

The roulade is a traditional Bavarian stuffed cabbage with ground meat, rice, and spices enveloped with fresh cabbage leaves and topped with a light tomato sauce, accompanied by German potato dumplings (späetzel) and red cabbage.

For those with a zest for the spicy, the Hungarian Paprika Schnitzel ($14.25) is a good choice and the Jäegerschnitzel ($14.25), breaded pork cutlets covered with a thick mushroom sauce is always a hearty, filling, rib-sticking meal.

Uwe's has a nice selection of beer, domestic and import, with the Wärsteiner Dünkel, a dark, frothy, delight being my go-to beer for German meals. Desserts are traditional and inexpensive with apple strüdel ($3.50) and ice cream ($.50) taking center stage for those with voracious appetites and room leftover for a little sweetness.

The service is always good and, as you would expect in a German establishment, efficient with little small talk while remaining friendly and helpful.

CombatCritic Gives Uwe's German Restaurant 9 Bombs Out of 10 ... Wonderful Evening. My wife and I were lucky enough to stumble on Uwe's German Restaurant while visiting Colorado Springs. I cannot tell you enough how much we enjoyed the entire experience. The young lady that waited on us was so pleasant. She made our evening. I had the special and my wife ate the dinner special. They were both so wonderful. Ended up taking half our meal with us as we couldn't eat it all. So good. We enjoyed our entire evening so much.

Bad food. First days in colorado and we got invited into uwes... My son is not really picky either but i know that if he doesnt eat normaly somehing is wrong with the food at this time we thought it was just excitement but oh boy was i wrong... We had stomage problems for 2 days... Unfortunalty.... Maybe there had a bad day or something but i am not going back there... Eventhought the staff again was nice and the bread that there are serving great... Even the food it self looked good but for some reason it was bad for us.

This is hands down the most amazing german food ever!

I have enjoyed this restaurant since I was a boy. Every time I come back to colo spgs I go there to enjoy the food, atmosphere, and the people. I like the other one but I prefer Uwe's.

I think is one of the better German food places in town. It was busy and the atmosphere was really nice when I had came here. Prices are decent but unless you have kids who love german food, it isnt really kid friendly for those toddlers that only like a select few things. They had nice live music which i really enjoyed.
Anna Cruz
So good. Tasted like a good old fashioned home cooked meal!

Authentic Joy. Make sure you call ahead and place a reservation even if it's just you dining. Uwe's was packed and we had about a 20 minute wait but I am so glad we did wait. I tried 3 different dishes there, sampling the others in my party's plates and each was great! A ton of food for lunch for under $10. Even the waitresses and many restaurant goers there speak German so you know you are getting authentic food. A small hidden gem in the Springs I'd say.
Sam
Great Food. I went with a group, who had served together in Germany. Everyone agreed the food was excellent. We ate several differnt entrees and all were very good, with huge portions. The prices were really reasonable, too. The place doesn't look like much, on the outside, but it's clean and neat. We tried Edelweiss, as well. Uwe's was MUCH better!
Laura
Great food. I had gone to Uwe's before with my husband for dinner and the food was not that spectacurly, but this trip was great. I had the Thursday special, liver and onions and they were cooked to perfection. I also had some of the schnizel and it was good too.

When we showed up there was a line out the door, but we called ahead and made reservations. Their lunch rush is very busy. We were quickly seated. The service is not the fastest, but as long as you are not constrained by the one hour lunch rule, you will be ok.

Delicious traditional German cuisine with helpful and friendly waitstaff. The specials were authentic and really satisfied our German food craving. Highly recommend.

Really good German food and a wonderful atmospere. Being 100% Gernan, I feel I am a good judge. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the mood for authentic and very well prepared German food.

Best German Restaurant!!. Uwe's German Restaurant has been in business in Colorado Springs for almost 40 years. My family and I have been customers of Uwe's for over 25yrs and have never had a bad experience. The serve superb dishes which include, Schnizel, Rouladen, German Salad and bake their own bread. They also serve Wonderful german wines and beer. The staff always treats you like family, and on Saturday nights you can enjoy old german music played on the accordian, dancing is encouraged what a fun atmospher, everyone's favorite is of course "The Chicken Dance." It is a great place to celebrate a birthday, an anniversary, or just get away for a few hours. The portion sizes are large enough to have leftovers the next day, you will never leave hungry and always be satisfied with the service, the atmosphere, the quality and portions of the food. Upon entering Uwe's German Restaurant you will feel like you have just entered a Gasthaus in Germany. The decor is very simple but will either remind you of Germany or let you experience it for the first time. There are pictures from Germany on the walls and the one that stands out is the one of the Neuschwanstein Castle it is beautiful. So whatevery mood your in will certainly be better once you leave this great restaurant.
Jessica
Definately the best German I've had. I went with my German class and the waitress actually helped us order in German!
Uncle Chef
Authentic, delicious. If you're looking for authentic German food, this is the place to be. Their Jagerschnitzel is fantastic. While the atmosphere isn't tops of all the German restaurants, it is BY FAR the best German FOOD in town. Had an accordian player doing walzes and polkas last time we were in.
TBrock
Best German in the springs. Second to Edelweis in atmosphere but this is the place to go for German food in Colorado springs. The food is simply outstanding, the service is excellent and the prices are very reasonable.
DineOutDiva
BEST!. We have tried all the German places in CS. This is the best by far! Love the staff too!

I enjoyed the soup. And I should have interrupted another diner to take a picture of the salad. It included things like spaetzle and potatoes.
