Gunnars Cafe

I was in town for business and tried this spot because I met the proprietor and she seemed very passionate about providing people with a great experience. I was pleasantly surprised by the food. It was fresh and tasty. The staff was friendly and attentive. The decor and environment were simple and no frills; however, it was appropriate for the location and the price range. The only thing I will caution people about is that the Add-on Fee for a cup of soup is actually an upgrade fee as the soup replaces the standard side rather than being an add-on. All in all, great bang for the buck and a solid 4 for a restaurant of its type. I would return and I would recommend this establishment to others.

Gunnars Cafe is in the center of downtown Cle Elum. It is a very casual place that seems like your run of the mill espresso stop, but the food here is quite good, fresh and made from scratch. Order food at the counter and pick a seat. Not too many seats on the main floor, but there is a narrow gallery up some stairs - not good for those with mobility issues. A good example of what the menu's like: The Grumbler. A scratch made biscuit is topped with fluffy scrambled eggs, hash browns and hearty sausage gravy, $10. It was really tasty, moist. The sandwiches are made with home made bread. Most meals run about $10. The only drawback was the tomato bisque soup. It had good flavour, but had been sitting on heat too long and condensed too much. Coffee was good. The fresh baked goods are solid. Our family of 5 ate here, with drinks and some of us got baked goods, for $80. Seemed reasonable. I recommend this spot!

Service was a little slow, took maybe 45 min to get our 2 burritos, toast, eggs, and grilled cheese, but the people that showed up 20 min or so after us got their food when we did, so it must depend on what you order. Food overall was good! If you get the burrito, be prepared to eat like 5 eggs. Tomato soup was delicious, grilled cheese was good. Will probably stop by again as long as I'm not in a rush!

Just passing through looking for a quick breakfast sandwich to go and don't want to give our money to McDonalds. Hubby and I split the veg breakfast burrito. Huge and delicious. Very fresh tasting. The woman who helped us was very friendly and engaging. The locals hangout were also friendly. Great green space adjacent to feed the dog and let him run around for a bit. Perfect stop.
