Beefy's

For Italian beef sandwiches that can stand toe to toe with Portillos, Beefy's is an excellent choice. Their menu is broad, offering food for anyone looking for American diner eats, but it's clear that the Italian beef is their speciality and what they excel at. Its a casual place, serving honest food at sensible rates- an excellent lunch stop for those in this part of Chicago.

A place for hillbillies with no taste buds. Never tasted such a terrible red sauce in my whole life. To reproduce at home just pull out a can of tomato sauce and add half a pound of oregano and heat it up. With a name like beefy’s one would expect their beef sandwiches to be tasty but again the secret ingredient in their natural gravy appears to be water. I’m sure they don’t like eating their own food and perhaps they don’t want to confuse their hooplehead customers by improving their recipes. I guess if people keep coming then it’s probably easier to just buy more stuff for the house instead of making their food more palatable to more sophisticated palates. I get it - this isn’t a 5 star restaurant but any hole in the wall joint in Bridgeport has better tasting beef and breaded steak than this place. Sorry to be harsh but it’s true. Don’t believe me, try their breaded steak. You’ll cry unless you’re stoned.

This is a super casual fast food type of place but with beer. 🙂 You pay for your food first and then go get it the way you would at a place like McDonalds. The food is reasonably priced and delicious! The people who work here are nice, and they have a TV for entertainment. For those who are concerned about Covid, they have great sanitizing habits.

After reading reviews, I did not realize you ordered inside and then picked up your food at the window, but the gentleman allowed me to order the food at the window anyways and didn’t even mention the process at all. The Chicago dog “dragged through the garden” with the vinaigrette cucumbers was so tasty! The fries were exactly to my liking, thick ‘n crispy. The coke was even the perfect amount of syrup and carbonation. I felt good supporting them against Portillos down the street. We have to help keep our mom and pop food stands alive, it’s a major charm of the Chicago burbs!
