This is a great restaurant with great service! They serve popovers and chicken when you arrive. We have a really great menu and the service is prompt. I had the turkey club.
I love that the meal starts off with some consommé and the popover with strawberry butter. The food is always delicious, but the service is why I’m leaving a review. Elvira is an amazing server. She remembers special things like what drink I usually order and therefore is a step ahead of us, anticipating our needs and making us feel special. Thank you!
Great holiday cocktails and decorations. It's expensive but worth it. Large portions. Free chicken bullion and popover with strawberry butter. Free chocolates with bill.
Beautiful place for lunch and the food and drinks were pretty good. I think the day I was there they were woefully understaffed and so service was very kind but also very slow. I of course would still return as the convenience and atmosphere outweighs one trips worth of slow service.
Reserved a table for one on Open Table and stopped for a quick lunch... because I love popovers. Marcus Nieman has a good thing going on with the strawberry butter/ popover combo. Add in thoughtful service (this time an unexpected chicken consomme) and the waiter kindly substituted some wilted spinach and a salad for my frites - all told, it’s a great experience and not as expensive as you might expect (at lunch at least!). I wish the view were better but everything else is perfect.
Very elegant restaurant on the top floor of Neiman Marcus. The staff are friendly and professional.
The day I ate there they offered an amuse bouche of chicken consommé. The lobster roll was excellent.
Food was good. Service today was a little slow. They are understaff. Popover and consomme is warm.
We had red bell pepper soup, mandarin souffle chicken salad and mushroom polente ragu.
Grabbed take-out on a rainy day as it's across the street from my hotel. Service was excellent, staff was friendly and food was yummy. Good spot to get something on the lighter side for lunch. I'll be back the next time I'm in Chicago.
I have been going here ever since I was a little girl! They just recently renovated the restaurant and made it even more beautiful! Thy kept the specialty items like The pop-overs with strawberry jam and chicken broth! They have a delightful variety of salads with nutritional information which is helpful! Its also a great spot to grab a cocktail with your girlfriends!

Since its been over 2 years since my previous review, I thought it was time for an update. Upstate remains to be one of my favorites, if not my favorite restaurant in NYC. I have returned upwards of 10 times in the past 2 years, and it would be way more if I hadn't moved to Utah randomly for 6 months.
I can confidently say I have had basically every dish they offer at the restaurant, mostly because I had my birthday dinner there once with my family and we ordered literally one of everything on the menu (except the cheese plate) during the course of that dinner. My dad still talks about the time he ordered 14/15 items at a restaurant.
They just do seafood perfectly. Everything is fresh, no flavor overpowers the other, and the prices are incredible. The portion sizes are fair, and the service is friendly. My only complaint about upstate is that it doesn't comply better with my work schedule, because I would go far more often if I could hit the happy hour timing during the week.
On my last visit (yesterday, first time back from Utah yay!), I split with the boyfriend a dozen oysters, salmon tartare, crab cakes, lobster ceviche, fettuccine with clams and that deeeelicious whiskey cake. It was the best meal I've had in a long time, and I'm looking to replicate it soon to make up for the lost months (as I will now refer to them).
