Try it while they are relatively new and affordable…
We went early thinking this place was going to be the typical case of the new Japanese in town hyped and packed… also, to take advantage of the happy hour.
As a former Asia resident and total freak of Japan and their cuisine, I must say they did a good job here. Place was surprisingly empty, staff were friendly and food was fair. Well presented, good quality and fair price. I can see (and hope for them) this place becoming so popular that one day prices are off the charts and it’s impossible to get a reservation here.
Meanwhile, I will come back while crowds are not invading them and eating here is still relatively reasonable for what you get.
So yeah, 5 stars for an overall great Japanese experience and we will definitely be back!!
A little more in-line with your upscale sushi spots - definitely no Juno but a nice step up from your weekday spot. And Kyoku has a reasonably priced Omakase experience. We ordered a la carte, but did try the sake flight. Everything was fresh & delicious.
The service was great and the place was as inviting as it has been for the last 3 concepts - very little has been changed to the interior since it was a steak joint.
Kyoku Sushi
This place was excellent quality paired with equally excellent presentation and service. We started with wakame which was perfectly balanced with sesame oil, followed by hotate, a Hokkaido scallop which nearly melted upon my anxiously awaiting tongue, this is what Catholic Holy Communion should bee, perhaps then I would believe;)
Shortly thereafter, our sashimi arrived only to compliment the hotate’s borderline religious experience. It was presented in a misty fog of dry ice with beautifully sliced, appropriately sized pieces, of very high quality fish. The hamachi and otoro were standout, typical of my taste buds.
For dessert we enjoyed sea butter, magical uni, alongside some of the best ikura I have ever tasted, I think it was marinated in some sort of soy, both of these were served nigiri style, simple and perfect in every way. To finish we shared A5 wagyu, stone seared table-side, what a way to walk away from such a memorable meal…
Thank you Kyoku:)
Cheers.
Kyoku Sushi is fantastic. Such a classy and upscale sushi restaurant in Lincoln Park. Loved the interiors and everything is tastefully done. It was my first time here and it definitely is not my last. Will be back again.
The menu has a nice selection of sashimi, nigiri , sushi's and more. The food is beautifully presented and tastes amazing. It's all freshly prepared and will blow you away with the taste and texture. We had the Gyoza, The 9, Windy City, Hi Jack, Black Widow, Scallops, Golden Crunchy Rice and Mochi Box. I would recommend them all .
first time at kyoku recently and it was a very nice first experience! we had eaten a big lunch so we were easily able to push back our reservation despite it being a saturday night. i would recommend going a bit late like we did- the waitress said we beat the busy time. from the time we sat down to the time we left was only 45 min. we ordered the crispy rice appetizer and that was very tasty but i wish it were served warm. otherwise the rolls (we ordered 5 for 5 people and it was the perfect amount) were unique, fresh, and different. i could tell the chefs make the fish shine and don’t overdo the garnishes. prices are reasonable for the area!
Best most authentic Japanese restaurant in Chicago!!! The ambience, the set up is very Japanese style. I love it. We love amberjack nigiri, flounder nigiri, squid nigiri, Wagyu beef, Hokkaido scallop, shrimp tempura rolls. All are outstanding and perfect food quality and authentic taste. Thank you Aline and all the Chefs.
Incredible Omakase experience. The chef was fantastic. All dishes were phenomenal.
Super cute place, music was a little random and loud lol but we had a nice time. Their sake is great, love the sushi.
Finally found a high quality sushi place that I like, now is soft opening , the owner said the Omakase is coming soon , they also offer a private room for party which is pretty nice, because it’s hard to find a place can have a good quality sushi also has enough space for party. The scallop is my favorite , and the ikura is the plus . I usually not a urchin fan but the fresh urchin is very nice , all I tasted is fresh and sweet not even fishy ,so far all the dish I got is pretty nice, I wound highly recommend kyoku sushi.
My husband and I just visited this new gem and we were so glad we did. The service and food was phenomenal! Each piece of fish was delicious and melts in your mouth. This is a perfect place for a date night or a girls night out. I can’t wait to go back and try more :)
