The place runs like a lunch room.get in line, order your food, get a number and find a table.a waitress brings your food and anything else you might want.the place is always busy so be patient cause the food is worth it.real traditional home cooked style of Mexican food.also try their gorditas dulces warmed up with a little butter and coffee/tea,it's the best.been going there with my familyfor 30 years.

I always come here to get my tamales! Totally worth the drive from Lombard. And of course I have to have breakfast or lunch. Breakfast I usually get potatoe and egg tacos, lunch it's usually chili rellenos. Great people, great neighborhood , great food! My Spanish is pretty bad almost non existent. But we always get the order figured out! Love this place

You want authentic...this is the place for you! Not sure what you're craving but you want Mexican, this is the place for you! Plenty of seating, plenty of parking in their lot as well as street parking is what you encounter first as well as a crowd. Yes, it's that good so show up patience in case there's a short wait & also make sure to wear your hungry pants😂. The cafeteria style display of food as well as aromas that will take you back to Abuela's kitchen, will have you ordering one of everything! Server's are glad to explain the different dishes to you so don't be afraid to ask. One added nicety is you don't have to order a plate of just one item ! That's right, the plates, which come with rice and beans, can be ordered with variety. As an example you can have a plate with Guisado de Res(stewed savory beef) and Pollo con Mole( chicken with Mole sauce) accompanied by either corn or flour tortillas. There's also a menu that you can order from as well. Weekends you can order Menudo but there's soup chicken, Fideo ( my personal Fav 😍) and beef. Prices are reasonable so this is a definite must try when in Chicago ! You're going to need a nice long walk after your meal so definitely check out their grocery store located next to their parking lot! Lots of goodies, meats, produce and great prices. I could spend an hour there alone just checking out all tge different spices, foods & delicacies...a definite must for foodies !

Delicious 😋🤤 food. They're tamales are delicious and so is the food. I don't think I've ever been disappointed with anything I've eaten here! One of Chicago's best!!!

Memo’s was closed on this Saturday so I was walking around the neighborhood and many people were crowding into this place, so I entered. I was pleased with how good the food was and how this cafeteria style eatery catered to the community. I ordered 3 diff tacos, my fave was the chicharron which was really “porky” and had a bit of chew from the “soft crunch” of the skin. I also liked the lomo asado with big beef taste and soft stewed style. I was disappointed with the pescado as the breaded filet had hardly any flavor. I had to salt it to taste. But overall a very good meal and a solid 3.9 stars.

First time here and it will not be the last. Menudo was delicious. It has a bit of a different flavor than I am used to, but it does not disappoint by any means. It is a rich and deep flower. Taco Al pastor, meaty and very delicious. Friend had tamales and loved them. They were very meaty, the masa was flavorful as well. The service was great. Very attentive and quick. You order at the counter, and take a seat. The food is brought to your table and you pay when you're done.

-Food: 100⭐! -Serice: 5⭐ - Atmosphere: 5⭐(no-frills) - Value: 5⭐ -Bathroom: Zero For 20+ years I heard about La Casa del Pueblo and its neighboring restaurant Nuevo Leon ( now extinct due fire). My friends from Mexico, Asia and Europe wouldn't stop talking about this place so one day I decided to give it a try and I was instantly converted !!!😃 La Casa del Pueblo offers the most authentic Mexican home made style food anywhere on this side of the border (Real abuelita and Tia style), I know so, I used to live in El Paso Tx, Arizona; L.A. and Oakland in California. Variety is unbelievable too. Probably 50 freshly cooked dishes daily. They have their base every day menu with the most popular items of the Mexican comfort food cuisine (beans, rice, chicken soup, beef stew, menudo etc etc etc) then thier specials that rotate by the day ( Mole, frijoles charros, fish, pancita, haba soup etc) and then the seasonal menu for Lent or summer or Navidad !! Only a place with tons of volume and expertise can offered such a Fresh and Delicious variety of items to select from. I can't get enough of them !!! Service is another delightful experience at this place. Many attentive older ladies are prompt to handle your requests, happily and with old style gratitude you don't find anymore. Really really great place. Extremely recommended for casual eating while alone, group of workers or family gathering. ***I wish they put more attention to the restrooms😖. ***As amazing as this place is, the owner is kinda a jerk. I've seen how he treats employees, hum😤...

My wife and I had a wonderful dining experience at a restaurant we visited. The food was fantastic and we were really pleased. The service was swift, our drinks and meals were served promptly. The staff, including the waiters and waitresses, were exceptionally friendly. If you're planning a trip to Chicago, this restaurant is a must-visit! I would wholeheartedly recommend it 😊

I ordered $200 worth of tamales. The tamales taste amazing, however, they have gotten smaller and smaller each year. For $20 a dozen, I would have expected slightly larger, meat filled, tamales. I cannot complain about the service as they are always super attentive.
