American Junkie

This place is gorgeous and really high brow, but people who go here think they're the most amazing people on earth. Very pretentious. The bacon wrapped dates are delicious, but pretty pricey. The upstairs is really fun and lounge-like but good luck getting to sit upstairs if it's a Friday or Saturday night - talk about expensive.

I've been here for a number of industry events ... the upstairs room is really remarkable on nice days when they can open the roof ... lending a light and airy feel, while still being indoors. The food that I've had there has been pretty good ... and was surprised to have had Lobster Rolls served at a recent function. I've not actually gone there to eat, but I'm guessing that the menu's good from what I've seen at functions. The downstairs bar is cavernous, and I've really only hung out there when they weren't letting folks upstairs yet for an event. They have been very active in working with different groups - and are one of the main spots for things surrounding Techweek.

Went here for a couple of drinks with friends and it seemed to be an interesting mix of people. The drinks were strong and the music was good, so that made the environment all the more enjoyable. The staff is friendly and checked at our table to make sure we were good on drinks fairly often. I have not been here in the summer but they do have big garage like doors in the front that appear to open when it is warm. Definitely want to try coming here again when the weather is nice.

If you order nothing else, get the bacon-wrapped dates. Stuffed with goat cheese and topped with a red pepper sauce, they are one of the best things that I've had on the menu. Skip the bone marrow topped with lobster - sounds decadent but was really just okay. The flatbreads are awesome. The upstairs is great especially with live music - also good for a group after work.

So my first experience at American Junkie was for Tech Week's Kickoff Party on Monday (And Coincidentally the Blackhawks Final Game Win!). It was a blast. The venue definitely has a great vibe to it. It was a little rainy so they had the retractable roof closed initially but then opened it up later once the rain stopped. Also the Side Windows completely open up, Makes for a great place to be whether or not the Chicago Weather cooperates. It also has a good number of TV's and a large screen for the sports fans. I did have their Foe Gras Appetizer and thought it was really good. Overall I'd come back again, especially to check out their DJ's spinning there, I left before the DJ really got started but this place looks like a party. I'll be back.
