Have been dying to try this place for a long time & it did not disappoint!! From helping us get to our table comfortably with a sleeping baby & fast service, I was loving every bit. Delicious food, great service & really fun atmosphere

THE best place I've ever been for Mexican food. The guacamole with pomegranate left me speechless! The Garza steak fries are amazing; a meal in itself. The steak enchiladas left nothing to be desired; and if you want to be really blown away, have a tamarindo margarita. You won't regret it! I'm sure the jalapeño margarita is also amazing, so I will be trying that next. Family friendly, reasonable prices and great sazón! If you can make it here on lotería night, 3rd Wednesday of every month, and you will have a great time! I fell in love with this amazing place, I'm sure you will too!
Stopped in on a Sunday for a quick late lunch. Shrimp tacos were fresh and tasty. Vegan pozole was very good. Staff super attentive and friendly. Guessing this place does a good cocktail but didn't partake. Good chips (didn't get a chance to try the salsa as we went guac).
Try the Verde Vegan Pozole. I don't know what spices they used, but I didn't mind the lack of meat. It & the rest of our meal was very good!
The tamarindo chicken wings were fantastic. Crispy and drenched in that wonderful sweet and tangy sauce. Each tamal in the sampler was unique in its own way. I slowly savored each one. The mezcal Paloma was nearly like the ones I make - smoky with a citrus kick. Only downside was getting the check before I asked for it.
I went here last week with my toddler and husband and we had a wonderful experience. They accommodated her by bringing her a kids menu and crayons to color! The food was so great and so was the service. We will be back!
Absolutely one of my favorite spots in the city! The food never disappoints, and they're getting better every time we go! They recently took over the back patio space formerly used by Quenchers on Western and Fullerton, so even more seating is available. We caught them during a great event to promote the space, had some amazing food, and listened to some live jazz on a nice Summer afternoon. This is one of those places that your friends always recommend, for good reason!
Love this place! Can’t believe we waited so long to try it. My husband and I went on a Wednesday and tried out their wing special. They sprinkle goat cheese on theirs which was YUM. One of my favorite wings in the city, now! Also tried the verde salsa, guac, been dip, and flautas. Flautas came with a side of pazole! Everything was killer.
Really nice place where you might not expect it. We had the empanada sampler, the tamale sampler and the goats cheese quesadilla for food and we had the Paloma, the mezcal mule, the pepino Loko, the lengua de Diablo and the el alacran for drinks. Both the food and the cocktails were tasty, well delivered, tasted fresh and tasted authentic as well. They have us a free shot of a new cocktail they were trying out, which was also really great. We didn't actually feel like they needed to improve but they seem to be keen to keep on top of things. The owner told us the recipes were handed down from his grandparents.
The people that own the restaurant are really lovely and very helpful. We're really happy the place we wanted to go to was closed cause this was no doubt better. My partner also felt like it reminded him of when he went to Mexico. I never went to Mexico myself, but I can see how this would feel "real". Really lovely.
One of my favorite restaurants in Chicago! Amazing service, beautiful presentation, great drinks, delicious food, beautiful art, I can keep going. Definitely put Estrella Negra on your Restaurants To Try list! 10/10 would go again!
Amazing food!! Would definitely recommend this place to everyone. So much flavor in all the food and drinks. My go to are the enchiladas but you really can't go wrong with anything else either. The staff has been so kind everytime I have been in!
Great service and honestly those steak fries was worth the trip. The pozole was the perfect amount of spicy and a must try. I would skip the green tea horchata, I wasn't impressed but I wouldn't knock points for it. Will be going back because I want to try the drinks.
