I had the great fortune of eating breakfast at 5 loves several years ago. It was a really good experience, as the food and service was perfect. I own a business near 75th and S. South Chicago Ave. and was nice to have a place in my "hood" to be able to go to. I wish you the best, and I am hoping you can get over the hurdles and open up again. I'll be your first customer.

Food was so good we ate it too fast and forgot to take pictures for reviews ! It was so delicious ! And my daughter eggs was sunny side up Cheese grits were cheese and tasty and sausage was bomb!! Potato’s was like grandmas ! We are hard food critics. so we were so happily surprised this was amazing our first order.

Being from East Atlanta and a person that's constantly cooking and eating grits, I was very skeptical about trying grits in Chicago and from a restaurant. Their grits are cooked correctly. Not lumpy, actually done and not runny. The sausage gravy was pretty good with a little spice in the sausage. Fried Salmon was seasoned nicely and was a complement to have with the grits. Shrimp weren't over cooked and maybe remove the shrimp tails, looks good but not necessary. The pancakes were the down fall I believe they were made on a griddle but just weren't good and some areas of pancakes (I had 4) were tough and tasted funny like the batter was either old or pancakes were reheated. Overall I'd eat here again to go only for me even if there was no pandemic.

The food was Excellent, I had the chicken, potatoes and pancakes. Definitely has now become a staple in my life. The fish and grits were very tasty. I'm trying the shrimp and grits next visit.

Sooo this is also one of my all time top favorite restaurants in Chicago. Comfortable atmosphere, great service and of course the food is fulfilling to the max. It's a small diner, stays busy so expect a wait. Oh but once your food arrives and belly is full, you realize it's worth the wait. Wish I had more pictures

I really enjoyed 5 Loaves Eatery. My son took me there, just because. (I love me some him🥰😁.) Anyways, it's a cozy, quaint restaurant featuring all day breakfast. They have an eclectic array of tables/ sitting areas, but neatly/ strategically organized to lend itself to immediate comfort. We were less than arms length from the table next to us (kind of like at McDonald's, now that I think about it.. maybe closer). I said that to add, though we were close to other parties, I was able to easily converse with my son without distraction (and my hearing is not the best) & this is along with the perfect volume balance of music in the background (I sang along with most of the songs in between talking).. Anywho, I ordered one of the specials: shrimp & salmon (croquette) & grits. It was divine .. a nice, flavorful, semi-spicy mix of mmm mmm! Okay, I'm being a bit dramatic. But, save a little more need of seasoning for the croquette (my son tasted a bit, then asked me to make mine for him soon), it was delish! Of all the shrimp & grits I've had at different establishments, this is the only one that comes close (if not surpass) Peaches restaurant (47th & King Dr). Oh, 5 Loaves' sauce comes either original (pork, which I had) or turkey (for those who do not eat pork.. I thought that was pretty cool). My son had the pancake breakfast (grits, eggs, & of course pancakes) with the Parker House sausage (mild, but they may have spicy available too because there were spicy bits of sausage in the shrimp & salmon & grits sauce😋). He enjoyed them. I guess they do something magically with their grits, too (or he hadn't had any in a while). He openly savored each of the initial bites!😅 Aaaand then there's the "jar" of juice. My son selected a "half gallon" of the Easy Living. The juices are available in a quart & half gallon... Though we knew the size he'd ordered, we (and others around us) were taken aback when it arrived to our table. It was jaw dropping, fun, and exciting to see (adding to our wonderful experience)! The only reason for 4 stars is the unisex restroom. It was clean, but very small. However you can tell that thought/ care was taken to make the best out of what they had. So, overall a wonderful experience! An upbeat, comfortable environment with a delicious variety of breakfast offerings! I appreciate my son finding/ choosing the place...I hope to frequent it!
