This place has a great soundtrack. I love the mix of their fun atmosphere with decadent menu items. We started with the broccolini and oysters, then moved to a full slab of ribs with white bbq sauce, and ended with desserts. Whenever I ordered a beer, the server asked if I "just wanted the 16oz", because that's their smallest serving. In proper German tradition, they also had a stein or a boot of beer available. Service was friendly and attentive, with other staff glad to jump in to grab anything we needed, and our desserts brought out by someone from the kitchen even.
The spot is such a wonderful place to be. It's very comfortable and lovely and the staff is absolutely amazing. Excellent service. The only thing that didn't quite meet expectations was the food. The price is a bit higher but I was thinking that the food would then be a bit yummier. We had the crab dip, the pretzel, and the pork schnitzel. The drinks were very good though.
Overall cool vibes - great atmosphere and great music in the evening.
Great service- Mari was awesome handling our reservation and greeting us. I felt very welcome and it was quite the hospitable place. Service was quick even during busy Saturday night during Restaurant Week.
The food was incredible! I look forward to coming back and trying more menu items. Recommend: German pretzel, Slated Caramel dessert, Crab toast, Raclette, Knachwurst, Spaetzle caccio e pepe, and of course das Boots of bier.
Enjoyed the Sunni Kolsh and the Shnitzengiggles hehe
Definitely check this place out!!!
The services were fantastic! The staffs there were kind and attentive!
The portion per dish was light, so you may want to order more dishes. Not a single complaint about the restaurant. A restaurant I would probably revisit!
German and soul food is a rare combination but when done right it creates a unique experience. A michelin bib-gourmand and a recommendation from a co-worker, Funkenhausen was a pretty easy choice for our office group get together party. Our large group of 10 was looked after really well and the management was very accommodating of our last minute requests with reservation time and party size changes. We sat right by the open kitchen watching the experts exhibit their culinary skills. Food was delectable and we loved the stories of the recipes and the details of the preparation enunciated gracefully by our server. Beer selection lived up to the expectation and overall we had a really good time.
I’ve had this spot bookmarked for a while and finally made it for dinner. My only regret is not going sooner! Tried the oysters, beef croquettes, schnitzel, and cacio e Pepe and all were excellent. Also liked the decor/ design aesthetic very cozy and modern! Will def be back for brunch sometime.
Had a great experience here for brunch. Service was good, great decor, and good beer selections.
I’d highly recommend the “oma’s breakfast” - it was a great sampler of what they had to offer. 10/10.
The Schnitz and Grits was flavorful and good, but the breading on the meat was soggy, even in areas without the gravy. 6/10.
The donut was great and fit for sharing. The cherries on top added a great touch of tart. 9/10.
I definitely want to come back and try dinner - hopefully the schnitzel I had was just a bad batch.
Funkenhausen came recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. The menu is rather abbreviated but the selections do not disappoint. I like that it’s not overflowing with choice. The food was absolutely delicious. We tried the pretzel, brat, and spätzle for appetizers and then I had the chicken schnitzel as an entree. Dinner portions were definitely adequate. The atmosphere is really chique with some German props in good taste placed through the restaurant. Five stars in my book!
Reserved a table on Open Table on a Saturday morning at 10:30am. I wouldn't be worried about doing a walk in because it's a spacious place so there wouldn't be much of a wait. Interior is beautiful!
Got the Schnitz and Gritz, Dad's Crepes, and Oma's Breakfast. Everything was pretty good. Wouldn't say any of it was amazing, but it did the job in a nice environment.
It's also next door to Beatnik. Fun Fact.
Might come back for dinner because I've heard the Dinner menu is much better than the Brunch one. So fingers crossed
Fun place for German food with a twist. Really enjoyed the sturgeon pastrami & the smelts/asparagus small plate was fantastic. The "tarte flambe" was good, but honestly more of a flat bread than a tarte. Definitely try the smoked spare ribs, those were great.
Great & inventive cocktails, and since they focus on wine to match the region if the food, you will likely find something you've never heard of...give it a try
Seems like a place that will change a few menu items petty frequently, but will keep their core menu the same.
Service was great, thank you for a wonderful experience.
