I recently had a great dining experience at L’ Patron. The staff was friendly and accommodating, the food was high quality and delicious. The the atmosphere and decor was appropriate and the restaurant was very clean by all accounts. It looks like they’re getting ready to re-launch a fantastic made-over patio. The crowd appeared to be a conglomeration of singles and families, ranging in age from young to old, enjoying the excellent fare offered by this very professional group of employees. I am a Chicago ex-pat and I’m excited to ad this restaurant to my “return often” list when I travel.
Fresh food and the service was quick and people were nice !!! I had steak tacos and the meat was juicy tender and not chewy like other places!! My favorite was the rice and beans it was the best I've had and the horchata was on point! Definitely my new taco spot
Absolutely delicious steak and veggie tacos in freshly-made tortillas! Others in our group tried the shrimp tacos and they got two thumbs up as well. Definitely get a couple orders of the guac topped with craisins to share if you go with a group. This restaurant is BYOB. Limited seating so you may have to wait awhile to get a table after putting your order in at the counter.
Before I moved to Chicago, I did not understand how good a taco could be. Of course I had eaten tacos before – my mom made them for dinner sometimes in my youth. But her tacos fell far short of what Chicago has to offer (sorry Mom!). When I moved here, it was like a whole new world opened up to me – and I found the best fish taco in town right in my neighborhood at L’Patron. Lucky me!
My favorite tacos in the city, and that's saying a lot! But be prepared to wait for them. Long lines at busy times, but you can call in your order. The Fish Tacos are the best, pastor or Carne close behind. And the veggie option changes daily and is always creative. Get the guac and some salsa verde and you're good to go. Cash only!
excellent quality Mexican food. The lines can be hideous, and waiting for a table is frustrating, but those are the problems that come with popularity. I order Tacos al pastor the pork is pretty well seasoned along with the delicious pineapple that tops it off. creamy horchata drink(but way too sweet), it transported me down to Mexico. My order 2 tacos al pastor 1 asada , cebollitas and orchata.
BRING CASH!
Cash only joint here.there is a Walgreens that has a Chase ATM around the corner if you bank with them and don't want a fee.
As with the perennial 'Who's got the best pizza in town' issue, the pronouncement of Chicago's best taco stand is rather contentious. Some say it's Ernesto Gonzales' brightly-colored L'Patron, located at Diversey and California in Logan Square. Gonzales, a Topolobampo veteran and Kendall College cooking school grad likes his music and his colors the same way - loud. Now, I don't care much for narcocorridos or banda, but I do love me a good, cheap, delicious cilantro-ladden taco. Â "I've never had a taco that really wowed me in my life," said my girlfriend as we turned onto Diversey. Well, that's probably because you haven't been to Mexico City, where I ate the best tacos of my life as a 22 year old backpacker making my way to Costa Rica overland. But come to think of it, I haven't had a life-changing taco in Chicago either. Sure, I've had some good ones at La Pasadita and Nuevo Leon, but never anything transcendent. Would that change at L'Patron?

Fantastic!. This place is Brilliant. We are so lucky to have it at the top of our road! We just moved to the states and weren't familiar with Mexican food, so we weren't sure what we'd get when we ordered here. But we were so impressed by the delicious and generous amount if meat in the burritos! The pork is amazing and the steak so juicy! The guacamole is so fresh and delicious, especially with the pomegranates on top. The staff remember our names too which makes us feel welcome and appreciated. So much that we have been going back frequently in the week. I can't wait to have visitors over so we can get them to try the scrumptious food too!
The tacos here were ok. My friends and I want on a taco crawl last night and this was our second stop. They aren’t the worst tacos nor were they the best. They leave a bit to be desired and it’s extremely bright in this location.
I would definitely say, it’s worth a try, as many might love this place. For me, like I said, not bad, but not great.
First time here on Labor Day. Tacos were really fresh & made to order & delicious! Chips thick crunchy, chill vibe overall if inside dining.
Nice staff, clean - definitely coming back 🤤
Cash only ATM inside
tacos were fuego but the trash smell was waftin into the back patio so -1 for the atmosphere. we were too hungry to take photos of the food 💅
First time dining here. The food was very good and portions were good. We were all stuffed we we were done. The place is small so it gets crowded. Go early. Restaurant is cash only and street parking.
GREAT STEAK TACOS! Cash only which sucks but whatever. The staff is very friendly and the place is nicely decorated. I had the lemonade and it was awesome it tasted fresh and natural not some artificial cheap powder like most restaurants do. Will definitely be returning as well as recommending to my friends and family!
These tacos are very good. I really enjoyed the al pastor with the sweet pineapple offsetting the heat and spices of the meats. The carne asada was also very good. Definitely taste the char of the grill in the meat, but it was slightly chewy on the tooth. The staff was friendly but it took nearly 20 minutes to just get 2 tacos. Its worth a visit but there are many taco joints that have tacos as tasty as L’Patron, this place was a bit out of my way from downtown area.
Deviled shrimp and Al pastor tacos were phenomenal and are highly recommended. The torta was less impressive but decent nonetheless. There is a very chill patio around back with great vibes.
It's a clean and festive place for authentic tasting Mexican food. I had a vegetarian burrito that was really tasty. The service wasn't lightning fast but it wasn't slow either. Prices are fair here. I'd go back again for sure.
Very good food but the ac system was unable to keep up. The restaurant was full and and it was warm inside. Looked at the thermostat on the wall and it read 80 degrees. Making my 1st time experiance uncomfortable to stay and eat. Next time i go will be eaither fall, winter or spring
Food is very Good, Guacamole and Chips is wonderful just wish they'd fill the container was only half full and it's small already.
