This place was amazing! First and foremost, would love to mention the really low key vibe this place has. Tucked below the sidewalk, the dining room is extremely intimate, and paired with bright walls and paintings, you feel as though you're transported to the coast of Spain.
The menu is a traditional tapas menu, so you'll want to choose a few plates to share. For a table of two, we did one plate from the first course, three from the second, and one from the main course.
The food was great and everything we were hoping it would be.
End your dinner with the butter cake. I definitely recommend it.

They made great food and delicious drinks! This place is relatively a tiny place. Make sure you call ahead before you come. You will be amazed how much this restaurant will surprise you!
I was visiting a friend in Chicago and she was super excited because one of her favorite restaurants was reopening that week and she got a reservation. What she didn’t know was that another friend from NY was coming to visit as a surprise. The restaurant was closed so I messaged the restaurant through Instagram and Facebook and mfk graciously responded, updated our reservation without altering the original reservation so my friend wouldn’t receive a notification. Dinner was delicious and the service was impeccable. Thank you so much for a great evening!
So this place had numerous glowing reviews, which caught my eye for a new foodie destination. But, I was especially charmed by the few poor ones sprinkled in as they had the most colorfully virulent retorts that I've ever seen. Due to this combination of patrons' admiration and the owner's staunch defense, I knew I had to try this place!
"Cocktails...food, so how were they???" Both ASTOUNDINGLY IMPRESSIVE while inconspicuously positioned around 4am industry bars. Honestly, this is one of the most satisfying dinners I've ever had at a restaurant in my life, and I actively look for such experiences.
The Admin, Saturn, Sour Grapes, and Back Forty were the tried cocktails between a friend and me and were all very dialed in on balancing flavor profiles. You could give any of these a try and be satisfied (Admin will become my spicy go-to admittedly).
As for the food, the Suzuki Bass Crudo and olives were amazing bites of food for each of us; the croquettes slayed in savoriness; and the Spanish tortilla was the best thing I've eaten in memory since I moved to Chicago a few years back. You hear me?! THE.BEST.THING.
To the ambitious and toiling owner(s), you have done nothing short of greatness! Thank you for betting on yourself and opening up this restaurant, so that underlings such as myself can have some of the best and most memorable food/cocktail experiences in a city with many options promising to provide the same (oftentimes much more expensive and with much less substance). Seriously...SUPERLATIVE. Like it or not, I'll be back! :)
chicagos best hidden gem. the food is incredible, the service friendly, and the vibes immaculate. worth a visit :)
Best Spanish Food in the city by far. Highly reccomend the albondigas, meatballs are scrumptious. Also if you looking for good sangria, this is the best I’ve had outside of Madrid. Will be coming back
This restaurant is simply inspiring. I remember the first time we visited I had to look up what or who MFK was. I never imagined that a meal would inspire me to read a book! The impressions MFK will leave on your palate will transform into cravings. I often think about their crudo on a squid ink tostada, the wine list and the cocktails i’ve had there, the world class staff, and the first time we had the Basque cake always reminds me of a quote;
“...it was one of the best meals we ever ate. - Perhaps that is because it was the first conscious one, for me at least; but the fact that we remember it with such queer clarity must mean that it had other reasons for being important. I suppose that happens at least once to every human. I hope so.”

I do hope so. And if you don’t, then you probably ruined your whole families trip ;)
We first saw mfk on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives, and we are so happy we did! Amazing food, amazing service, and a great date night in the city for us. I highly recommend!
