What a wonderfully warm, and welcoming environment. Even before I sat down, just walking in to this restaurant envelopes you with a sense of warmth and serenity. Every server, all the personnel, have a smile on their faces - even with their masks on, the smile comes through. They already had me won over with their treatment for their patrons, however, it was their food that completely bamboozled me over.
The injera is soft, has that distinct sourness to it, and is pillowy soft and perfect. All the meats were unctuous, seasoned to perfection, and cooked excellently. The cabbage and the spinach were phenomenal, and the lentils were cooked well and tasted great! It was the tea that really took the cake!!!
I highly highly HIGHLY recommend this restaurant to any, and every, body!
This is the best, most authentic Ethiopian food ever!!! My parents lived in Ethiopia for a few years and say that the spices and Injera are spot on! Staff is very friendly and helpful if you don’t know what to order. We come here all the time and don’t think any other Ethiopian restaurant comes close to this good. Looks are deceiving; it’s so incredibly delicious.
The food is absolutely delicious, it’s authentic and made fresh. The food is full of flavors unlike anything else. The Ethiopian coffee is my favorite! I’m Hispanic and my husband is middle easter , and hands down Ethiopian coffee is my # 1 . It’s true that it’s the best in the world! Not only is the food delicious, but the the owner is so friendly and welcoming. It feels as your at their home having dinner.
This is the absolutely best Ethiopian restaurant we've tried in the Midwest and we've tried them all (Chicago, St Louis, Indianapolis, Madison). The balance of the spices, the texture of the injira, the perfectly cooked veggies, and the wonderful coffee served in a traditional Jebena -- it all comes together to make a perfect meal. We've been coming here for decades since it was called Ras Dashen and we're so glad to see that Maritu (the former owner's daughter) has taken over the operation. It looks like she is continuing the family lineage by using the same traditional family recipes that her mother passed down to her. Please carry on and don't change a thing!
Our first Ethiopian food experience, we ordered Yebeg De Beebere (lamb), Doro Wat (chicken), spinach, collard greens, all so delicious! Friendly atmosphere, great service, will definitely come back.
First time eating Ethiopian food and it was a great experience. The food was flavorful and the variety made the whole visit enjoyable. Definitely recommend going with lots of people because the presentation suggests a communal eating experience.
Love this family owned restaurant! The food has been consistently terrific- spicy, smooth, and soulfully cooked. And the owners and servers are always welcoming. It’s our favorite Ethiopian in Chicago.
