Strawberry basil beer and fried chicken sandwich is my go to order from forbidden root! Is a great place for a large group with plenty of variety in beer cocktails and dishes! My go to spot when make plans with 8 or more people.

This was one of the best meals we have had in Chicago! We ordered the Mushroom Pot Pie and Salmon. Both were incredibly curated. In addition to the meal, the beer was perfect. We loved the staff and had an incredible experience. If I could give 10 stars I would!

Food was delicious but the Duck and Dumplings was overly salty. Everything else was wonderful. I would also probably ask not to be seated at the very front in the window next time, too. Place was nice but it felt like we were not really IN the restaurant. Great service.

This place was a pleasant surprise. I was expecting bar food and very casual, it is rather casual but the food is a cut or two above what I was expecting. The beer flight is a great deal, 5 types of beer for $14 and it’s not the tiny shot glasses most places use. We split the arugula salad and Brussel sprouts to start - both were good. I had a cup of the corn soup which was delicious. Where the dinner really took off though was entrees; I couldn’t believe how delicious our food was. I ordered the short rib, which came with a delicious gravy over mashed potatoes and the most savory fried mushroom I have ever had. I savored every single bite. Every restaurant has a short rib dish now but not all of them do it right - tender, flavorful, juicy. My boyfriend had the duck and dumplings, which was at least as good as my short rib, maybe even better. All said and done, two flights of beer, 2 apps, a soup, two entrees and two more beers for dessert tan about $130, which anyone from the city knows is not really that pricey at all for that amount of food and drinks. I will return to this restaurant for sure.

I had dinner here last night and was so impressed with the food considering it's a brewery. I tried the duck gnocchi and a fried chicken sandwich and it was way better than expected - really high end and tasty! Service was great too, I'll certainly be back.

definitely needs a reservation! What a great time we had! Atmosphere was cool, place was buzzin! food was great, the burger is BOMB! Salad wasn’t too bad (not the biggest salad fan in general) and finally the chips and ranch was AMAZING. Staff are awesome, our waiter was awesome and definitely worth a visit again!

Was here for the brunch, got a flight, the corn soup, brunch ribs, and chicken and waffles. Everything exceeded our expectations and went well with the beers. For us, the star was the maple syrup, worked well with sweetening the waffles and was slightly spicy on the chicken. Love to check out some of the other stuff on the menu next time!

Higher end food menu for a brewery. Will have to come back to try other items on the menu. The malted vinegar popcorn was a pleasant surprise. Beer options were solid as well. The building was an old theater that has been converted to a restaurant space. The old building facade was a nice touch, made for a great experience overall.

Made a reservation and came in early and the table was waiting for us which was nice, first of service was good so we’re the drinks. My chicken sandwich was delicious some of the other food we got as a table didn’t turn out so good, the Reuben had more bread then corn-beef the salad was barely a salad. The smash burger was also a hit of the table. Overall this place is HOT just gotta know what to get. (The building it’s self was very cool)

Awesome beer and another vote for the duck dumpling dish. I did find the mushroom pasta to be a bit over cooked, but very helpful staff and interesting drink selection. They are “botanical” beers so definitely unique.
