Review Petterino's - Chicago

Otis Gatlin
Amazing service in a great location in the loop. We had an amazing waiter who gave us honest opinions on the items on the menu and also gave my kids a free ice cream. I would recommend the Rigatoni Vodka Cream Sauce with chicken or sausage and the Seafood Pasta. Also there are great photos of historical Chicago figures and celebrities all through the restaurant that give it a unique atmosphere. Parking is right across the street from the restaurant along with being behind the Goodman Theater and the two "L" stops makes this place a can't miss for a family outing.

We drove into Chicago from Michigan on the Friday before Labor Day. After we parked the car, it was already after 8:00pm, so we found this place on google and since the reviews were good, decided to walk here and have dinner. It was 8:30pm when we walked in and there was no wait, in fact the place was fairly empty. The staff at the door were friendly and seated us quickly. My wife and I both ordered the Mafalde which is a pasta with Short rib sauce and my Dad ordered the Salmon Pesto. All of us really enjoyed our food, it was good. My 82 year old Dad is very particular regarding how much salt is in his food and he usually sticks to grilled fish. He said his Salmon was perfect for him and not too salty. We had a couple beers as well. The lady serving us was helpful when we asked about menu items and she had a very pleasant attitude. The atmosphere of this restaurant is cozy/casual and we liked it. We would definitely stop in here again to try something else on the menu.

Classic Italian restaurant well located next to the Goodman theatre. Beautiful decor with some great sketches of famous actors on the walls. Service was good and the outside seating was a great place to people watch. The risotto was very tasty but the mushroom Alfredo was a bit too one dimensional and lacked a variety of flavours and textures.

Wonderful service!!! Seriously top notch. The waitress was slammed and the manager came over and took care of us to help out her team. You can tell they really operate as a unit. Our waitress was also so nice. We loved the chicken parm and carrot cake. We cut our time So close to catch a Broadway show and they made it happen and said “oh we will get you out of here on time to catch your show, don’t worry!” So sweet ! Would highly recommend

The perfect place to grab some appetizers and cocktails before seeing a show in the theatre district - the caricatures covering the walls make for fun conversations and the food and drinks were excellent.

Near faultless food, certainly for the price it would be hard to argue with either the burrata (highly recommended), the house salad (tastefully dressed), or the spinach-mint pappardelle in lamb bolognese (equally highly recommended). All were memorable. The mushroom pizza was tasty and toppings generously portioned, but did not excel to the same degree being let down by the cheese (noting though pizza is a divisive and subjective topic at the best of times). Huge respect to back of house for smooth execution, your team is clearly a symphony. Unfortunately on our visit front of house let us down. There were periods with no service affecting multiple tables and the night was not busy. Overall a great experience, excellent value and a memorable meal. An apparent Chicago icon - for good reason.

Stopped in on a whim, without knowing anything about the restaurant. Was taken care of by Eddie, who was fantastic! He recommended a great glass of wine and was very attentive. We had the arancini, gnocchi and a burger all of which were delicious. We were there at (late) lunch time, so it was a little bright in the restaurant. However, before we left, they were switching over to dinner and they dimmed the lights and the ambiance was so much better! We were also helped by Julian who gave us recommendations for somewhere romantic for dinner and he did a great job. Excellent food, even better service. Thank you!

The food, cocktails and beer were delicious. Our waiter was also wonderful. I never had an empty drink. We had the shrimp as an appetizer.I had the spaghetti and meatballs and my fiance had the white fish. We had their brownie for dessert omg so good! We Definitely will definitely be back! We went again tonight for dinner. A wonderful meal. The restaurant is decorated so pretty for Christmas. Their manager Christina is amazing. I feel she really takes the time to make sure each guest is enjoying their meal. One block away is the Christkindle market, in the Daily Plaza. It was nice to have dinner, then go walk the Christmas market.

Oh my word! We took a chance and walked in without reservations, and I'm so happy we did! The place was packed, so we sat at the bar. The service was excellent, the atmosphere energetic and casual and the food was top notch. I ate the beef short ribs with ribbon noodles and all but cleaned my plate. The flavors, the chewy texture of the noodles combined with the soft, juicy morsels of beef were a delight! For dessert I had the chocolate Panna cotta. The creamy custard and the slightly bittersweet favor of the chocolate were so, so divine! My daughter ordered the tiramisu and it was quite perfect. Eat here.

Pleasantly surprised that we were able to be seated earlier than our reservation, even though it was a busy Friday night. The waiter was thoughtful by asking if we had time constraints for a show. The bread was just ok and the cold butter was hard to spread. But the pasta was amazing. It’s made fresh each morning and super flavorful. We enjoyed the vodka rigatoni with Italian sausage and mushrooms. And the squid ink seafood pasta. Excellent and fast service. Highly recommend.

Fantastic ambiance, with the decor and celebrity caricatures, which compliments the great food. We also recommend the waiter, Daniel, that enhanced the dining experience! Very special place!

It was 3 of us, we went before our theater show and we were ignored by our waiter!!! We had to ask for complimentary bread basket that wasn’t giving it to us, and when they finally brough it to our table it barely had anything in it. Every time we need it something we had to look for our waiter, he jus ignored us completely!!! We ordered 3 entrees and 3 alcohol drinks between 3 of us and for some reason the waiter had a look on his face like we ordered only 1 dish and sharing. Im sorry but it really didn’t feel like we were in upscale restaurant!!!! We Asked for another bread basket since we barley had anything in the First one and they never gave it to us! Also Had to wait for a very long time for the food to be served. Food was good but service really sucked!!!!!! We were all extremely disappointed!!!

We came in for an early dinner before attending a show, around the corner from the Chicago Theatre. My aunt, mom and dad and I were greeted warmly and attentively, asking if we were on a strict schedule, in order to attend a show. I don't remember our waiter's name, but I believe he might have also been the maitre d. He was very friendly and took our orders, ensuring that he had our special requests correct. Service was quick and efficient, and when we asked for pickles to go with our burgers, he brought them right away. The food was fresh and perfectly prepared to order. The pre-meal bread was delicious, too, very unique and tasty. We live out-of-town, so on the rare occasions when we are in a strange place, finding a nice place for a meal can be daunting, but I would come back to Petterino's any time I'm in Chicago! I loved the decor and ambience as much as the food. Thank you, folks, for a wonderful meal and delightful experience!

I had the crab cake eggs Benedict which was very yummy. The crab patty was full of lump crab and not a lot of filler and the poached eggs were poached to perfection and a lovely runny yolk. Hollandaise sauce was good, but Have liked a bit more. And the tator totes were crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. Next time trying the chicken pot pie or the avacado toast. And the Oriental Theatre was right down the street.

Great drinks to start ... my bloody was great with just the right amount of bite . My girl had a French martini... perfection. Calamari app was tender and tasty 2 dipping sauces were great and tasted homemade. I had the chicken pot pie . Big chunks of chicken , peas carrots, asparagus and onions wrapped in a homemade pastry puff ... best ever . My girl had a salad that comes with 2 different dressings ... can’t recall the name but it was excellent! Waiter was great and the street provided great entertainment!

For a family gathering, we had a private room with a choice of menus. The food was quite good. However, the tiramisu had very little flavor. I will definitely return.

The 5 cheese ravioli was to die for! As was the chocolate mousse cake. This is a fine restaurant and wonderful dining experience!

Planning on another trip to Chicago just to eat here again! The service was great and the food was amazing. Best crab cakes we’d ever had and we’ve eaten a lot of crab cakes.

We went early before the dinner crowd and it was wonderful! We didn’t have to wait long for our food. And it was delicious! The service was terrific! We felt like queens! Since it was our first time there, we received a dessert to share which was divine! I will definitely go back the next time I visit the city!

Such a wonderful meal and delightful experience. We were a party of six and every one of us age 16 to 55 loved their meal. Our waiter was very attentive and we were finished in plenty of time to get to our show at the Goodman. The pasta was so fresh and the desserts were divine!!

The food and atmosphere was amazing. I really enjoyed everything, including the coffee and the most professional waiter!

I just love Petterino’s. I was there yesterday with six other family members. The food was delicious and the service was wonderful. I appreciate having them keep our leftovers when we attend a play. I highly recommend this restaurant.
