My husband took me here for my birthday dinner and we had a phenomenal experience! First of all, the staff are all so friendly and helpful; they immediately set the ambiance while seating you. The outdoor terrace had such a great energy about it and was a great spot to enjoy our meal. The pork dumplings were very juicy and flavorful, the scallops were melt-in-your mouth good (although the picture doesn’t do them Justice), and the Kung Pao Chicken was incredible. We also both loved our cocktails! In addition, the restaurant brought a complimentary dessert to help make my birthday that much more special. We would definitely come here again!

One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had! All of the food that we ordered was absolutely perfect! The scallops were buttery smooth, the dumplings were firm and not sticky and the lobster came with A LOT of lobster! The staff was so intentional about the way that they served. They laughed with us and treated us so well! If you get the chance, sit outside on the terrace. It’s probably the most secluded feeling area in the entire city. Cannot reccomend this place enough!

I really liked this place. We were hoping for some late night outdoor dining but the night we were there the weather was rough. But inside was pretty elegant. Understand this restaurant is part of a hotel building which was very elegant and we spent time actually exploring some of the public areas which you can see in my pictures. One important point. I felt way underdressed in shorts and a tee. This place is pretty dressy which makes it a good spot for a special date and not ideal for kids but I'm sure they are welcome. The third pic is of the hotel lobby.

Great food. Their lunch menu and dinner menu are not the same. Peking duck was amazing and cucumber salad - and of course can’t forget the dim sum

Great service from both the Peninsula Hotel staff (we were not staying there) and the restaurant staff. The patio seating and atmosphere was perfect. Food and cocktails were really good. Had three different dumplings from the Dim Sum menu and the Peking Duck. Our server made great recommendations and answered all of our questions. We weren't sure what to expect from a restaurant attached to a chain hotel (albeit a luxury chain), but it was a really nice experience overall.

A simply outstanding experience! Our server was so friendly and knowledgeable. He gave many suggestions and explanations on the menu. Everything we ordered was delicious. They also had a great selection of wine and cocktails. We would go back again without hesitation!

This was one of the places I was most excited to try when coming to Chicago. I had never seen a roof top Chinese restaurant before especially one that has a dumpling menu. My experience was interesting, firstly getting into the restaurant was a bit of a challenge; but, that was partially due to my own fault. Just be sure to look for the signs as like me you may get lost. If you enjoy a decent bar experience you may want to go to another place first then come here. There is a bar, but it's small and lacks some variation you'd see as places of similar price points. Instead they have a small outside bar that is nice, but doesn't offer the options a true bar would support. I usually always enjoy a cocktail at the bar before dinner and instead we took them to the table as the bar really wasn't conducive for that kind of experience. The atmosphere with the servers seemed more formal and less social than I am used to. The hostess Kimberly was nice enough, and Paula my server was efficient. I had no complaints, but nobody made me or the table feel special. No long term connection that would make me feel like if I came back I'd want to say hello. Although, despite those minor details the food at Shanghai Terrace is great! I ordered Peking Duck, Shanghai Fried Noodles, Crab Siewmai, Shrimp Hot and Sour Soup, and Chinese Style Beef Tenderloin. I loved them all except the Chinese Style Beef Tenderloin. I'm not sure what spice was in the Beer Tenderloin, but there was a flavor I just wasn't able to enjoy; although, my partner loved it so it just depends on your preferences. It does need to be called out that every bit of food is very well prepared and made with quality. If you come here for nothing else the Peking Duck is fantastic and I wish I got more of it.

We chose to dine here for my birthday lunch. They had limited vegetarian options on the menu but everything we tried was delicious. The ambience and decor was lovely and it has a great view of the John Hancock tower as well. I imagine it would be lovely during summer nights to dine here. Staff was attentive and great service. Food is a bit pricy but acceptable for a special occasion meal. I greatly appreciate the dessert that was served on the house for my birthday. The hotel is stunning inside and worth a walk around to see it.

I came to eat here while visiting Chicago recently and was extremely impressed with not only the quality of food but also the excellent customer service from Jade, Max, and Pipat. We were blown away by the dim sum, peking duck, and egg plant. When we decided we couldn’t have another delicious bite because we were so full, our incredible waiters insisted that we share some wine and have some sorbet. We were not disappointed. If you’re visiting the Chicago area and are craving Chinese, look no further- this is the place you want to enjoy a dinner at!! Thank you for your impeccable hospitality.
