No reservations. First come first serve. When we came we were seated right away by the kitchen. Does it live up to the hype and is it the best burger I ever had in my life? No not really because I’ve had a lot of burgers in my life. It is however a really great burger and I would get it again if I was in the area. Prices are fair because quality was great. -Double cheeseburger with bacon and egg 5/5 -crispy fries 5/5

I got the hash browns with duck heart gravy. Hash browns were amazing; super crispy. Gravy was very rich, well seasoned. Egg was perfectly cooked - no undercooked whites. My husband got the bone marrow and loved it. The venue also very cool...dim and leather and moody like an old lounge. Would highly recommend. I'll come back to try a burger.

the hamburger with the bacon is amazing. I added the egg, but it didn't seem to add much. the flavor was pretty much perfect. literally one of the top burgers I've ever had anywhere in the US. the only downside is the wait times. they don't take reservations so you have to get in line so they text you when your table is ready. it's popular so I've had wait times of 3 hours. I've also had 30 min wait times. come early

The double burger is really a triple! Be warned its a lot of food. Everything is super high quality and lots of care goes into the food. The fried eggs especially are fun to watch the cooks making them in their cute little single egg pans. Expect line ups and waiting for a table. Don't come here if you are in a rush. I am docking a point because the meat and mornay sauce for the fries are super salty. I'll come here again and try more items on the menu.

Au Cheval is great in every city! The burger with bacon is fantastic. Don’t forget the bacon folks! I also really enjoyed the fried chicken appetizer. Remember when you order that a “single” is actually a double and is plenty of food. The server was incredibly friendly as well! Go VERY early to put your name down so you avoid the 2-3 hour wait.

Au Cheval is another Chicago icon slinging out it’s popular gourmet burgers and fries. Been meaning to try this place for so long and finally had a chance to visit. I ordered the go to of many people which is the single cheeseburger but added the egg and bacon on top. Don’t be confused, the single is actually a double and the double is actually a triple so plan accordingly. The meat was well prepared but the extras of egg and bacon really made the burger. The bacon was thick cut and seasoned perfectly. Everything melted in your mouth. I’d definitely eat this burger again but be aware, it is pricey so it’s definitely a splurge compared to something like In-n-Out which tastes equally as delicious. Service was fantastic. Our waiter was great and even brought us an order of fries with egg and sauces on the house that we didn’t order so I was impressed.

Legendary burger spot in the West Loop. My friend and I made our way here around 3 p.m. on a Saturday, mentally prepared for the usual wait that this hotspot commands. To our pleasant surprise, we snagged a pair of bar seats, avoiding any wait time. Eager to make the most of our visit, we started with the chopped liver—offered in limited quantities each day. Rich, decadent, and impossibly creamy, the chicken liver was a revelation. But what truly elevated it to another level was the toast that accompanied it. It had the perfect ratio of butter-soak to crispiness, making each bite a sinful, satisfying experience. No visit to Au Cheval would be complete without sampling their legendary burgers, and I opted for the most decadent of them all: the double cheeseburger with bacon and egg. The additional toppings made the burger quite hefty, requiring some strategic maneuvering to enjoy it in manageable bites. Despite this, every component played its part perfectly—the bun was flawlessly toasted, the bacon crisp yet not overpowering, and the egg yolk added an indulgent creaminess that melded with the rich, juicy patties. For those planning a visit, just know that Au Cheval doesn't accept reservations, so an off-hour visit might be your best bet to dodge the wait. And if your heart is set on the chopped liver, arrive early before they run out. Among the countless burger joints I've visited in the U.S., this one effortlessly ranks in the top five. A must-visit, must-taste, must-experience kind of place.

This was the best diner experience I’ve ever had in America. Elevated diner food with no fuss, amazing taste and even better service. The rim on the Bloody Mary with dry garlic is to die for! The burger is juicy, tasty, super soft but firm bun, the bacon is just extraordinary and the egg was cooked to perfection. I was so full but couldn’t stop eating the hash brown… like, amazing. And dessert was just gluttony but absolutely worth it. I ended up sharing with someone sitting next to me and our server Spencer said it was on the house! Like, 10/10 experience! The only but is the line system at the entrance door is a bit confusing and everyone is jamming at the entrance which I found a bit overwhelming.

My first time in Chicago and everybody recommended ‘Au Chavel’ First things first, make a reservation because the waiting can be as long as 2 hours. I had a 2 hour waiting and took a bike ride to ‘Millennium Park’ and back to enjoy my meal here. It was perfect. Parking will be an issue, so please consider this as well. I have added descriptions to the amazing food pictures I managed to take. I hope you have as much fun as I did ❤️👋 Adios Amigo, thank you for reading.

Wow, incredible food. The burger, the bone marrow, the bacon, the fried chicken, and the dessert were all 10/10 for me. I'm normally quite critical about the food I pay for and I would 1000% come back here for these items. Our server, Jenny, was incredible as well as she shared real opinions and recommendations with us. Come here, it's more than worth it. Only thing I'd change is the volume of the music as it's a bit too loud 😬
