Shoney's

Horrible. My mother waited 45 minutes for her food, and never got it. The buffet line was just as bad. Much of the fruit was rotten. The chicken was old and stale. The french toast sticks were hard as rocks, as if they'd been on the line since breakfast- and we went in at 6pm! The service was generally poor. The staff told us they'd bring out some fresh food, and never did. We finally just left, and the manager did nothing more to make up for our experience than give us free drinks.

Our server Micky was the best part of this dine in. He was great, very attentive and well mannered. Other than him the other employees were kind of rude. No one wanted to restock the food and when they did they kept refusing to restock everything. We wait over an hour for a certain food that they kept saying would be out in a minute still wasn't out when we left. Employees were sitting at tables with customers, going outside with each other or boyfriends and even on the phone or tablet while walking around. This was by far the worst shoneys visit I've ever had.

We had a good experience. Xavier was attentive and pleasant and took good care of us. It was pretty much empty except for us so the cook made my husband fresh chicken and pork chop since he had the buffet. My club sandwich was delicious and huge with real sliced turkey not lunch meat. The reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the buffet wasn't the freshest.

I’ve heard that the breakfast buffet is great, which might explain the wildly differing reviews for this place. The lunch experience was decidedly not favorable. They appear to be highly understaffed. We waited about 1.5 hours for food; thankfully, the bill was reduced a bit to compensate. It took about 30 minutes to tell us that one of our items was unavailable. Maybe they only have 1 person manning the kitchen? We opted not to do the hot bar because, as others have noted on here, it was all over cooked, undercooked, or unavailable. There were maybe 3 other tables with customers, certainly not busy, so we joked that our long wait time was because they had to go out and find the chicken, catch it, kill it, pluck it, and then finally cook it. The food was okay, but nothing to write home about. If this is supposed to be Grandma’s Home Cooking, as someone said in another review, then Grandma must be using a lot of microwave meals. On the plus side, the servers and cashier were lovely.

Went last night. Place was dead. Only about 5 people there. Went to get the buffet and ordered tea. I was given coffee instead of tea while the teas steeped. Took the first bite of my food and it was ice cold. Salad was rotten. First time I had ever been. Told the manager we were leaving and as he looked at himself in the window and wiped his eyebrow like he was something special he said “I got you”. As if I would want to pay for that meal that is took 1 bite of. That’s place is a joke

I love Shoney’s but the past two times we have been there, once on a Wednesday and on Sunday, the food has been cool, lukewarm. Even the rice that had just been brought out, was only warm. It tastes better when it is hot as does the gravy, eggs and meats. We almost always come for buffet breakfast. I have not seen the manager up front lately. I think he has been cooking. Also, I am a Shoney’s club member. Today, the iPad was broken again. Could not long in to use my 5 off $20. I have noticed some of the servers seem to be off. Don’t know if they have left the establishment or if their hours have been changed. I believe the Shoney’s on Shallowford Commons is the last Chattanooga Shoney’s. Hope this is not a sign of coming extinction.
