Review Passage To India Indian Cuisine - Charlotte

James Mauney
Ate here for the first time Monday. Excellent chicken tiki masala. Large serving had me filled. Loved the buttered naan. Best way to describe the atmosphere is an Indian take out restaurant with some seating. You order at the counter, serve your own water, and bus your own table. They no longer have a buffet. Overall I would recommend this place but just know what it is ( a good stop for Indian food) and isn’t (buffet or romantic date night stop).

Great taste of Indian food dishes. Fresh Naan, and their tandoori chicken and tandoori paneer was delicious 😋.

Good food and reasonable prices. My only problem is in the pickup process. I ordered around 4:30 pm and scheduled a 7 pm pick up, I got there at 7 and they said I needed to wait as my food wasn’t ready yet. Ten minutes later there was a line outside and the small booth they have inside made it really hard to communicate without cutting people in line. I ended up getting my food about 20 minutes later although I ordered it over 2 hours in advance. I think the pickup process can be vastly improved. Food was good though.

Delicious Butter Chicken and Manchurian Shrimp w.Jasmine rice and Butter Naan. Portions for delivery are small. But fresh and tasty.

Fantastic food. They are reasonably priced compared to most other Indian restaurants in town as well which makes it all the better. The service is wonderful too. My only personal complaint is I wish there was a spice level between "medium +" and "spicy" but the food is fantastic and well made!! That's partially on me for not being able to take the heat. I came in once and there was a mixup with my call-in order, mistakes happen so I wasn't mad. They provided a free drink which was lovely as I was biking out in the heat just to visit this place. I highly recommend trying this place out!

The quality of food and taste is great also pretty good hygiene. The service is also nice. Polite Staff is always willing to help. What makes them better from other Indian restaurants is that they are consistent in their quality and service.. So far one of the best Indian restaurants in Charlotte, I love to visit them again. Keep up the good work.

Every time I go its packed full of door dashers. Never sat to eat so I cant really judge the service but the lady up front was nice. I got the biriyani the first time it was way to spicy and it had a ton of staranise in it which wasn’t cool but the second time I had the Tikka Masala and it was delicious.

We already smelled the curry when across the street haha. Food is very delicious and they give you so much. We had lamb biryani. I think it's around $14 plus tax. Incredibly best value for awesome taste!! Look at this whole plate. It's literally enough for 2ppl. The cup is their special yogurt to put on top of rice. Anyways, it tastes really good! Takeout only though. Would definitely go back if visiting CLT again.

It's pick up only, so there isn't much atmosphere, but the food is incredible and they are so quick. Even when we've been late to pick up or delivery took a while, it's always been hot and good. Our orders are always right. If we know somebody likes Indian food, we go here and it always gets high praise. So good!

Disregard any low reviews for this place, the UNCC area is filled with bad customers and dumb reviewers and their take should not be taken seriously. All restaurants have unfair/bad reviews but some people are just dumb or cruel. Best Indian food in North Charlotte and arguably the best in all of Charlotte, only competing with The Blue Taj! Service is great. The manager (whose name I unfortunately don’t know) is amazing and very nice. The food quality is always top tier and the taste is more than up to standard and that’s coming from an Indian person. Good portions, AMAZING flavor and spices. Never had any major issues here and always enjoyed my food. Some honest downsides to this place include the closing of the buffet which I really miss, the pickup process can be annoying but that’s usually due to other customers rather than the restaurant staff themselves. The spice levels aren’t very consistent but the food is tasty nonetheless and the menu is pricey. I also wish they had more deals and coupons. Overall, I very much recommend Passage to India and have introduced several of my friends who all love it!

I ordered through Door Dash. The rice portion with the Chicken Tika and Lamb Saag were a bit small. I recently discovered that I am a big fan of Indian cuisine so I might be writing this review out of ignorance; My Saag had a TON of bone in it. I had a small bone in my mouth and figured it was an easy mistake. Then I pulled a 2-inch square bone from the container. Then 3 more bones! I'm not sure if this is typical of Indian food so I only took off 1 star. If this is not typical I would give this about 2-stars. I won't be harsh due to my own ignorance.

I get the chicken Tikka masala and garlic naan every time, it's absolutely perfect and the servings are big enough for leftovers. Sometimes the service with takeout orders is a bit slow, but the food is worth it.

I’ve only ever done take out but I am always impressed. Their curries are delicious and excellently seasoned. I love their take on mango lassis.

Amazing lunch buffet. They have very extensive section of vegan customers. Samosas were really delicious.

I heared biryani is great ... but they did not refill the biryani in the buffet and so i could not eat it. The staff is very rude. On requesting to refill biryani they said a straight "no" instead of being polite. The service was poor rather you can say no service. The chicken was sweet and paneer was sweeter and was not good. Being an Indian i say overall bad experience. not once but twice.

Great value for your money. The lunch buffet has a few options - vegetarian, chicken, goat and fish. The food isn't spicy here and they also offer a lunch box for $5.

Food was amazing. We had the paneer tikki masala and a couple different naan breads. Don't be too turned off by the decor, it's nothing exciting. Service is a bit slow, but the employees were obviously working hard, just not enough employees to accommodate the guests. It's hard to find good Indian food in Charlotte. This little strip mall restaurant will be the only Indian restaurant we visit!

Biryani is great. Morning buffet is reasonable but limited options for vegan people. Ambience is average, not so great. But good value for money deal.

...I have to admit, I normally don’t eat at Indian restaurants because I have heard the food is very spicy. But today we were up for trying something different. We were in luck. Instead of choosing just one dish, we were able to experience multiple items from their lunch buffet, and many of them were very good. My favorite was the Chilli Fish, fresh tilapia marinated with spices, fried and tossed with bell pepper and onions.

YUM! Great for delivery when you don't want to cook and have a craving!. Bless passage to India for diversifying the University area's takeout options! I let myself order takeout once or twice a month and its almost ALWAYS to Passage to India. The food arrives hot and ready to eat - yes, you will have to wait at least 45 mins for it though...but totally worth it. I would recommend sticking to the Indian menu vs. the indo-chinese options as Indian is what they do best! Skip the naan and go for the Kulcha onion or potato (i've never tried paneer b/c I don't like paneer) instead. I love the Dal dishes and although you can never go wrong with Chicken Tikka Masala - the Vindaloo and bhuna is great too. Just ensure to ask for your proper spice level.

You get a lot of food so be prepared to eat leftovers if you are ordering for one person. Great place. Great food...pricey but worth it.

Amazing Indian food. Had dinner for 2, should be called dinner for 2 couples. Lightly seasoned, delicate flavors, real tandoori chicken with smoky delicious flavor. Will definitely come back next time I'm in town.

Great Buffet & Box Lunches. Go to Passage to India during their buffet hours and get a box lunch ($4 veggie/$5 meat) to go. You can pick from any two (2) of the buffet items ...... and it comes with a heaping portion of basmati rice plus naan! I recommend their Tandoori chicken and paneer tikha masala (plenty of paneers). If you dine in, the service is helpful and courteous. This place is real Indian with many UNC faculty, students and admin filling up during lunch hour buffet. It is small with subdued lighting, but the food is nice. Try it.

This is a hidden gem in Charlotte. My wife and I go here every Sunday for the buffet and they have some of the best food in Charlotte. The Tikka Masala is out of this world good!

Had their lunch buffet on a weekday; food is nothing exceptional, but they do have quite a few options for the price they charge. Be sure to check what they charge to your debit/credit card. I saw a charge of almost double the amount that was on the receipt and called to get the issue resolved.

Best Indian in Charlotte...PERIOD. My wife and I eat here about once per week and every time it is consistant and fantastic. If you order spicy...it's spicy...order medium ...it's medium. Between the Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Chittinad or the Chicken Vindaloo you cannot go wrong. If you are a Vegetarian? no problem they have a huge menu for you also. For Appetizers the Spicy Calamari is to die for and we have to get it every time. (extra spicy please).

They also have a daily buffet which is very good also but not as good as their dinner menu (Plus they never put Tikka on the buffet and I know why...COS IT IS SO DAMN GOOD and they have to get people in there for dinner :)

Price is very good and the service like a lotta places can range from a little slow to perfect. (we all have bad days right)
Karen
A bit pricey for what you get. Veggie biryani only includes cauliflower plus sauce.

Bathroom extremely not clean.

Rude Delivery!. The food is ok but the service is TERRIBLE! I’ve ordered delivery twice from them. The first time the driver got so angry and yelled at me over the phone because he couldn’t find my house. My house is in the city, in a neighborhood with a street light right in front of my house, not difficult to find. When he arrived he shoved my food at me and stomped off without a word. The second time I ordered on a Friday night, their website says they’re open until 11:00 and delivery orders are accepted until 10:30. I work at a restaurant and I got home late, so I placed my order shortly after 10:00, plenty of time before their 10:30 cutoff and 11:00 closing time. The driver arrived around 10:50 and told me, VERY rudely, that if ever want them to deliver again I need to call earlier because they need to have time to clean up. They still weren’t even closed yet! Why is calling almost an hour before they close still not early enough??? If my restaurant turned people away an hour before we closed because we need to clean, I can’t imagine we’d be open for business too much longer. If you don’t want to be open until 11:00 then change your hours of operation, don’t have your website tell your customers one thing and you say another.

Average restaurant. I went with family to weekend buffet and all the food was very spicy and we couldn't eat much of the curries or biryani. the gulab jamun was good but fruit custard was horrible with canned fruits. the vadas looked great on the outside, but were soggy and undercooked on the inside. they claim to have over 30 items in their buffet, but there were hardly 20 items. they don't tell anyone that on the weekend buffet you have the right to order free dosas and they charge $3 extra on the weekend. when we asked the waiter about the dosas after seeing someone else order them, he said he will try to find out if we can have them as well. later, when he came out of the kitchen he SIGNALED TO US FROM A DISTANCE that dosas were not available, instead of coming up to the table and telling us in person because he was afraid of being asked why we couldn't get dosas.

Great resturant if looking for Indian it's also halal

Food quality excellent. Service great felt welcome though from different culture. Price reasonable compared to any other restaurant.

Best restaurant in the university area. The lunch buffets are excellent and easy on the pocketbook; nothing beats warm curry and naan on a cold day. The buffet items are savory, but not that spicy, so if you're a fan of a more authentic style get something on the a la carte menu instead. It's a popular place, so the noise level is a bit high, but that's the price of going to a successful restaurant.

Indian food in Charlotte - this is the place to go. Best indian food in Charlotte. I have eaten at almost all indian restaurants in Charlotte and Passage to india wins, hands down. Still not authentic indian, but the best available option in the city. Very nice and courteous staff.

Decent food..ok ambiance. I went with my wife on a Friday night here. I had already tried one restaurant in Charlotte area (Sangam Indian Cuisine) and we were very happy with it. But we wanted to check out other restaurants too. Reading the reviews of it, I thought it would be a safe bet. We were quickly seated as soon as we arrived. We were given 2 small padad with 2 a tamarind chutney and a cilantro chutney as complimentary appetizer. And we hardly looked at the menu for a minute and waiter came to us asking if we were ready (I had to tell him to give us few more mins to decide). That was because the restaurant was too crowded at that time. We ordered Aloo Paratha/Paneer Kulcha, Vindaloo curry and Kofta curry. Aloo Paratha and Paneer kulcha were good. Vindaloo curry was tasty but it was more like a mix vegetable curry (so that was a disappointment). Kofta curry was tasty but the koftas were very small and slightly hard than what it should be. Rice plate was complimentary. They mention basmati rice in the menu but it wasn't basmati. During out entire 30 minutes dinner, no one came to us and asked if the food was good or if we needed anything else. The place mostly had students being near to University and it was too loud. I am certainly not going to be back and will be moving on to the next one with good reviews in Charlotte area. But in case, you DO decide to go, please print out their 5$ coupon from their website for dinner (or whatever else you are planning for).

Tried the dum biriyani. It was delicious.

Delicious! Grab a lunch box if you're cheap. Super courteous. Never disappointed. I'm happy that this place managed to one up Udipi, which was good, but did not serve meaty Indian food.

My sinuses have been acting up, but now I can breath out of my nose again thanks to the chicken chettinad. Pretty good stuff but I forgot to get that yogaurt stuff to cool me back down. The vegetable somosa was good too! There is also plenty of non spicy dishes on the menu as well. Check it ou'

Do it. This place has become one of my weekend traditions. Although I can't comment much on the service other than that the employees are congenial and tend to remember our faces (we always order carryout), the food is wonderful. We've tried a variety of the dishes and are always pleased with the product. As a bonus, there's usually enough for another meal (a nice little pick-me-up during an 8-hour day in the office). I'd recommend it to anyone looking for an Indian restaurant in the area.
Clt Food Sucks
It’s just plain average mama’s Indian. Which to me, is perfect for a quick lunch. It’s also tons better then overpriced Indian, or sad discolored Indian food. Like the Saag Paneer ain’t the best you’ve tasted. But it’s satisfying.
