Review Fuel - Charleston

Descartes
I have been to fuel several times over the years and was happy to see it remains a fun place to grab a beer and hang out at the double sided open bar. The staff is friendly. The crowd is generally a bit younger but varied and the outdoor space is a big draw. I didn't eat this visit. The prices seemed good and I think this place is a good starting place for an evening an evening out in Charleston. There is decent parking in front and around Fuel, but it fills up fast, so you might need to look around the neighborhood for parking.

The food was good, but nothing exceptional. I ordered the blackened Mahi wrap; there was more lettuce and wrap than Mahi, and not much flavor to be blackened. We sat outside and couldn't hear each other, so if you're going to try and carry on a conversation, you might consider an off time. The service was a little slow but not bad. Seating in doors is limited, but it is even louder in doors, so choose carefully.

Such a fun place to get drinks for happy hour! We ordered the taco fries and 1/2 nacho plate for appetizers, and started off with the specialty cocktails and frozen pain reliever. It was all very yummy. The poor waitress was the only gal working and still provided excellent service. They have fun games to play outside such as a ring toss table top game, connect four, and corn hole. Definitely will come back!

What an excellent place! We were in town for a big conference and unexpectedly decided to gather a smaller group of us (21!) for a dinner... only it was really hard to find a place to accommodate us all. Fuel came to the rescue. They were so kind and responsive, and they were able to put together a table for us all together on their outside patio. The food was AMAZING. (One in our crowd said it was her best meal in Charleston so far!) The service was outstanding. We loved our server, Paige. And the ambience was great. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Price: can’t beat it Crispy shrimp taco: delicious and portion was giant. I’d order 2 tacos for lunch and 3 for dinner. Street corn: sauce has a bite! So tasty tho, could eat one a day for life. Nachos: delicious- loved the half portion- makes it easy for a “tapas” style dinner. Parking: very difficult. Small lot with room for like 12 cars. There also is not street parking anywhere near by. If you can walk or Uber there, do it. Ambiance: loved the indoor outdoor style. I’d absolutely go here again, and recommend it!! Check out their happy hour items as well.

Friendly host and bartender, short wait time.. the food was fantastic! I got the blackened mahi wrap with sweet plantains and they had sweet potato fries come out - brought out plantains immediately (and I said they didn’t have to, so above and beyond!). Very beach/tropical feel to the place. Will definitely return!

Saw Diner Drive In and Dive episode. It was worth detour. Jerk chicken on salad was excellent. Nice variety of local brews served cold.

Has been one of my favorite spots in dt Chas for over 10 years. Have gotten the nachos every time and they are stellar. Super sweet service as well, highly recommend.

This was one of my favorite restaurants we visited in Charleston! It’s and old file station converted to a restaurant…so cool! The food was delicious, service was great and the ambiance was unique and awesome! The street corn was so good and the taco fries were also amazing! I was surprised at the amount of flavor in my rice bowl and the added texture from the topping made it extra delicious, though the fresh salsa definitely made the dish! I also got a Paloma which was fantastic. Such a good stop!

We were visiting from out of town and there were 6 of us. Bianca was our server and she was awesome!!!! She took our order and remembered every detail. She was extremely attentive and made great food/drink recommendations. The food was awesome as well. Loved the atmosphere at Fuel Charleston, and I will definitely return the next time I am in Charleston.

Stopped here for lunch. Started out with nachos. The boys had burgers and fries. My husband had a burger and tried the plantains. He didn't care for the plantains...but he is kind of a picky eater. I had a Jerk chicken salad. Was very good.Jack was our waitor...he did a very nice job and was attentive. I would suggest this place to anyone.

Staff was friendly and helpful. Food was great and other patrons were welcoming even though it clearly caters to a local crowd.

Husband and I stopped by for a late dinner on our way to a night event. The food was worth the stop. There was no one at the front when we got there so we had to wait a few minutes before being seated. We were seated quickly once someone noticed customers waiting. We got our food fast. We ordered 2 chicken tacos, fries, and fried shrimp tacos

This place is so cool. Great vibe, excellent dog friendly patio with loads of fans. The staff is awesome; Madeline our server was the best. Sky greeted us and our puppy Anni and we felt like we were home. Oh BTW The drinks and food were awesome! Happy hour even better. Don’t miss this place for sure!

The atmosphere is absolutely amazing! The decor fits the theme perfectly and the place is in immaculate condition (except some of the tables were sticky from the wax used). The wait staff (Bianca) were friendly and have a great memory. Nothing was written down and everything was served in perfect order, even with complicated and picky orders. The sandwiches were hot, the plantains were sweet, the fries were seasoned right, and the rice bowl was perfectly braised. The mojitos, mules, and cocktails were the best we've had in a long time! Throughout our visit to the Charleston area, we've encountered quite a few of unsavory restaurants... this is NOT one of them. Fuel Charleston is amazing!

Amazing service and fresh, delicious food! We ordered the guacamole appetizer, but the kitchen told our server that the guacamole wasn't ready yet, so she made it for us herself. I had the rice bowl with grilled snapper and it was both flavorful and filling. I also loved the vibe of the covered outdoor patio. I'll definitely be back!

On a beautiful Charleston evening we sat on the lovely patio and had a delicious meal! I loved the frozen painkiller my hubs enjoyed the shakedown brewed in Savannah. We ordered the chorizo queso. It was thick and flavorful served w warm chips and grilled tortillas. Great portion size! I really enjoyed the grilled shrimp tacos w sweet potato fries. Hubs loved the pork tacos with fantastic sweet plantains! He even ask the server how they were prepared. She said they are tossed in a rum and caramel sauce. ....a little to sweet for me but he loved them! Our server, Amy, was very pleasant, knowledgeable, helpful and efficient! Overall, it was a great dining experience and we will be back. And highly recommend Fuel!! Thank you Justin and Sarah Broome!

While the flavor of the food was OK, I thought that the Ho Cakes were overcooked and were dry and weren't hot. The grilled jerk chicken sandwich had good flavor also but wasn't overly hot (temperature wise). Very scant amount of fries came with the sandwich. Was very excited to be at a triple D restaurant but was disappointed with the experience. Perhaps we ordered the wrong thing. The service was somewhat slow but we understood that there was a tour at the restaurant which they were trying to serve and get out quickly.

First impression was unimpressionable. The hostess was not friendly or inviting. When asked to be seated away from the door since it's a very cold evening, she shrugged her shoulders as if unsure, unaware, or moreso indifferent concerning our comfort. The server took a long time to greet us, so we were offered drink service from an alternate server/associate. Our server eventually came to our table to drop off waters, and then left to converse with friends seemingly. We never received an introduction, a welcome to Fuel...nothing. She is not personable at all and needs additional training for sure. Nothing about Fuel seems to show value in the customer service experience. The food was served lukewarm, and tasted less than stellar. I am trying to discover a reason why anyone would intentionally want to eat here, but am finding it difficult to say the least to find one.

The absolute best place for casual food like their Jerk Chicken Sandwich, any of their tacos, and Hoe Cakes. And....yes it's me again....the plantains...are to die for... Super delicious drinks and a wonderful atmosphere to relax and enjoy a warm evening just solving the world's problems with your friends or watching a sports program on their TVs.....

Very noisy. Extremely young crowd. Poor service as it’s so busy. Don’t recommend and would not return

Derick and I went for dinner the price is great and the food delicious. Great atmosphere and a friendly staff. It's a must try place.

One of my favorite places to eat downtown! They have some on site parking, bonus! And a great atmosphere to relax and enjoy shrimp or fish tacos with a side of fabulous plantains! Service was a little slow but this isn't a place to rush through a meal. However, Furl is truly a Charleston charm!

Chorizo tacos, chips and queso, pork tacos, cadillac margarita, island tea, guava mojito and plantain cake. . . double mmmmm!

Service was TERRIBLE! Food was good. Had 6 staff milling round. Gal went to refill my drink and never came back with it. Took SUPER long time to take our order and receive items (drinks, food etc.) There was a bug in my water. Jerk chicken sandwich was yummy and pork tacos we're good. Maybe they were having an off day or should how better helpers, table behind us complained about service slow and inconsistent, they had been there before.

I had the jerk chicken sandwich and plantains.. the chicken was undercooked, and the plantains were charred but not cooked tender... this is the first time I've ever been disappointed.

We had appetizer trio of housemade salsas they were all three amazing. I had shrimp tacos and they were best I ever had. Service and environment were relaxing yet continously asked if we needed anything. We will definitely visit again.

Food was not good, Spent the next day sick.... how do you screw up sangria? Table was dirty, random dog walking around... server was nice....entertainment was well, semi entertaining....

Excellent food and service. Laid back atmosphere. Great place to gather with friends after a hard day at work.

Such a great local spot! SO excited to have run across this amazing place

Love the atmosphere. The food was great- had the black bean burger and fried plantains. The drinks are a bit pricey but you pay for the size which is quite large.
