Review Stars Restaurant-rooftop & Grill Room - Charleston

We hosted our wedding reception in the vintage room at Stars and they made sure it was a perfect night. The food was INCREDIBLE. It was absolutely raved about by all our guests. The room was gorgeous, and the staff allowed us to come early for setup. Our server was amazing and efficient, and ensured that everyone was taken care of. Things could not have gone smoother, and I am so sincerely glad that we chose to celebrate our wedding at Stars. We are looking forward to coming back to celebrate our anniversaries here! Thank you Stars!

Great place for a great dinner would definitely go again. Atmosphere: Really well done. The lights are stunning, and the entire place was simply done beautifully. They really tried to pay attention to details, including hooks for handbags under the bar which is hardly ever a thought! Really nice touch. Food: absolutely wonderful overall. The steak was beautifully cooked over the open flame which you can see. I spoke to the chef about it because I could taste the smoke and it was such a nice robust flavor profile. I added on the risotto, and while as a risotto it was missing the creamy texture and fullness, as a buttery rice my mouth and belly were still so happy. The fries are made in house and are absolutely fantastic. Don't skip out on those - I don't find a ton of fries that I really truly enjoy, these I did. While the salad was not enjoyed by who ordered it, the mussels were simply fantastic, and the sauce was absolutely raved about. Just a touch of heat to warm the pallette but not overwhelm. The manager made our drinks, and while they did not have fresh mint for a mojito, she made a cucumber cocktail that, while not a number one choice for me, was refreshing and light. I could have settled on it and drank it, but she brought me a disarono on the rocks type of drink that was served with a dark cherry of sorts and was really quite nice. The chocolate cake with nuts was a decadent choice and a true treat to eat. The staff was very kind, informative and helpful for our experience. The girl at front was new, her first day as luck would have it, and she did great too. The chef had no problem talking a bit and was quite charming. You can tell he is proud if his work. Something I don't mention often - bathrooms: the bathrooms here were done nice as well and were private and classy. Not a disaster as so many are. I appreciated the full doors.

Nice friendly - and very competent staff! We could not get a table but eating at the bar was fine and fun. Food was very delicious and well prepared. We had the steak. Recommendable!

We reserved a private room for a bachelorette party dinner for 14 women. The food and drinks were great, and two servers assisted us throughout our dinner. We opted for a prix fixe menu. Our options included two salad choices, steak, fish, and a vegetarian option. We also ordered appetizers for the table to share. We had a food and drink minimum, and food alone wasn't going to meet that, so be aware of this should you plan an event here. We ordered some nicer wine bottles for the table to ensure we met the minimum. Before dinner we visited the rooftop and had a bachelorette photoshoot and drinks. Delightful. It's a great spot for an event.

The smoked Ribeye steak grilled to perfection on a wood fired grill is one the best steaks in Charleston and priced reasonably including 2 sides. The presentation for the iceberg wedge was terrific. Housemade apple crisp dessert and the incredible coconut cake/strawberry shortcake topped off our meal. Don't missed the huge Rooftop bar, best cocktails, and a large tap wine selection that is delicious.

We were a party of 6 who came on a Saturday night. Even though we had a reservation, we still had a wait a bit. Bummer that the rooftop was closed too. The food was good but for what it was, a bit overpriced. Overall a good place for dinner but there are better options out there.

Great little spot for a drink. We stopped here to grab a drink before dinner and it was a nice spot overall. There is a full bar on the roof and I got the Lavender Lemonade, which I absolutely loved. Being outside on the roof was really fun, especially since the weather was lovely. The view was nice, but not as nice as we were hoping. We were going to eat downstairs, but ended up going somewhere else. The food looked amazing, though, as we were leaving; pretty upscale. I would like to go back for dinner before we leave. It's a really nice place to grab a pre-dinner cocktail, so I recommend it.

Great ambiance! The main courses we ordered were SO GOOD. The oysters were good, but not worth the $$ in my opinion. The drinks were spot on. If you love coffee for sure get the espresso martini for dessert! We headed to the rooftop for another round of drinks. Lots of room to move around and see the view.

Chef Pope is AMAZING!! The menu is perfect by keeping it small and there were plenty of choices. The "frogmore" chowder was creamy and delicious topped with a perfectly seared scallop. I adored the preserved duck salad! The apple gave it the right amount of sweet with savory. My Ribeye was one of the best I've had in Charleston. PERFECTLY seasoned and cooked to Medium Rare. And the desserts were so good we had to order all three(for the two of us) our server was busy but took excellent care of us,not missing a beat. Fortunately Robert suggested the walnut cake so we added that and my goshhhhhh,Hats of to the pastry chef. I must add my kudos to the bartender for my rum punches. We had an INCREDIBLE date night at this Foodie Gem on King St!

Such an awesome experience! The staff were super warm and welcoming the entire visit. The octopus was surprisingly tender and some of the best we've had. The apple salad was very well balanced with the goat cheese and fruits, and so refreshing. The flank steak was cooked perfectly and seasoned beautifully. The goat cheese mashed potatoes were so tasty and creamy, but not overpowering. Definitely one of my favorites! The cheesecake was SOOO creamy and delicious. The creme brulee was nice, and the whipped cream on the side helped tie it all together. We ordered the restaurant week menu and it did not disappoint. You can tell how much they care about the food here! I'm so happy we came and now I'm excited to come back for their regular menu!

We ate here for dinner on a Saturday night. Our waitress was excellent and very friendly. The food was also really good. I had the prime rib rare and they did a good job cooking it that way. The bloody Mary was good too. I can't comment on the rooftop as we sat inside. I would recommend this place for dinner at least. Prices were a little high but not anything absurd.

Really nice place! Parking was hard because it's on a busy street. They have a nice bar and seating area upstairs for when you're waiting for your table. The food was so tasty. Would definitely recommend and come again. I strongly recommend the lobster and shrimp toast appetizer!

We visited Stars twice while we were in town. Once for drinks on the rooftop and once for breakfast before we left. The rooftop atmosphere was great & everyone was having a blast! Not too much of a dancing bar, but a good place to hang out for drinks. The restaurant downstairs is a little more expensive, but the staff does their best to get everyone seated and make sure they are taken care of!

Impeccable service from our waiter, Raymond, made a family meal absolutely wonderful. The food and wine were first rate and their bartenders make the best palomas on the planet. I thought the best creme brûlée I’d ever eaten was, ironically, in Beijing but now that crown goes to Stars.

I attended a dinner meeting hosted by drug company- we were seated in a private dinning room and had one server. it was very obvious our server was not happy. with every question he was annoyed. One employee has dietary restrictions so she asked for plain salad- he was rude in his question of what she wanted so she just said never mind. He made no attempt to resolve it. Sides were not listed on the menu and he acted annoyed by questions about what they were. The only reason I gave 3 stars that was because the food was pretty good. Due to the service - not sure it's worth returning.

My wife and I had a nice experience. We started with the calamari and it was very tasty. I had the prime rib with bacon mac-n-cheese and green beans. I asked to have the prime rib medium rare and the chef prepared it perfectly. The mac-n-cheese was served warm and the green beans were a bit too hard. My wife had the salmon and it was fantastic. The service, drinks and atmosphere was very nice. We went to the roof top bar afterwards and it was standing room only. We will return and this time I think I will try the shellfish and grits.

Went there for dinner tonight, and asked about dining on rooftop, and was told that was only for drinks (sign outside made no mention of this but no worries). Decor nice, not busy yet on a Sunday about 6pm, but waitress seemed annoyed to have to deal with paying customers. No recommendations or descriptions of the food, answered our (very basic) questions, as needed, took our orders, brought the appetizer, and food. Another server actually took away the empty app plate, and he was quite nice. Prime rib, quite good, (i asked about regular horseradish as an option, and waitress said no, only what was brought out was an option and walked away) his steak was good, mac n' cheese was fabulous, and crab cakes were pretty good. There literally was one other couple dining there when we were done, and we were obviously done with dinner but our waitress was too busy chatting with 2 other co workers, and looking at their phone to notice that her ONE table was done. Overall food was fine, service just made us feel like we were a bother...apparently couples in their 50s are not their target audience. Too bad, but when i spend $100 on dinner it would be nice to feel welcome.

I would like to say that I've had 2 large parties there for my b-day past few yrs and another large one this past week Thursday night ! Stars has always been amazing to me in so many ways with accommodating my needs with such large parties of 20+ ! Never any concerns and the staff was amazing and did a phenomenal job at all parties ! Thank you Stars and management ! You always do it right and highly recommend you for future gatherings ! Oh and the food is off the chain! Thanks again !! We had a blast !

It was terrible. Took an hour to get our food- which when we asked was only put in “12 mins. ago” - personally I feel like it was either a pocket check or the cooks idk.. , the server was “okay”.. we had a reservation at 8:45 didn’t get seated till 9:20 (but, we did get an apology for that). I served for 7 years and managed for 1 and I can tell you what makes good service and doesn’t and I highly recommend not coming here.

Visited Charleston last week and had an amazing dinner at Stars! Great seat right up in the front window. Our server was SUPER, thank you Sullivan! Food(blue crab crab cakes, scallops) was delicious. Drinks were on point! Rooftop did not disappoint. Can't wait to go back!

Server was rude. Took 30 minutes to get a drink and condiments for our food. Spit roasted chicken was dry and food was bland. Way overpriced for the service and food we had. Stuffy crowd.

The ambiance was perfect for our date night, our waiter (chris) was awesome. Although the food was delicious it could have been warmer.. It wasnt hot like fresh off the grill, and our bread was cold. Overall it was a great experience! I almost forgot! The shrimp salad wraps are to die for! I could have eaten 10 of them!

What a great place to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We loved the Tater Tots as our app. My husband’s steak was deliciousness. My filet was amazing and so tender. We loved the Pluff Mud Pudding. Only negative: I only finished half my filet. The server took it away after I let him know I was full. My plate was then thrown away so I was unable to take home leftovers. I would have given 5 stars if this wouldn’t have happened. Otherwise, great service and great food.

This is one of the best restaurants we have been to in awhile. Chris our waiter was on point all night. Thank you Stars for a wonderful date night!

Had brunch yesterday for the first time in this establishment and the food was top notch. Mark (one of the managers) made us feel extremely welcome and was very hospitable. I highly recommend this establishment.

Food was not amazing for its price. Salmon had no special flavor palate...tasted like something you could easily make at home. Service was slow. Also tried to charge $65.00 for cutting birthday cake although they didn’t say anything when we made the reservation. Definitely not worth the money for the food quality.

This is a great place! The bar/restaurant is beautiful. No disappointments with the Apps, Entrees, Drinks and Desserts! Having a server like Chris made everything that much better! His talent shined through all of his knowledge!
