The food was tremendous! I tasted pretty much every dish and they were all good! The desserts were great too! Great atmosphere. Service was a little up and down but very nice and food was so good you didn't really care!
The atmosphere is just lovely !! The service is impeccable with happy people and the food is to die for !! Yummy!!
The Grocery has one of the very best happy hours in town, plus it is from 5-6 p.m. EVERY DAY that they're open – which is unheard of, especially for an upscale restaurant in downtown CHS! The quality of the food and drink is unmatched, easily one of the best restaurants in the city. A must visit if you're in town!
Stopped into The Grocery and I was impressed. This restaurant was not on my radar and a server from another restaurant recommended it to us. It was really good and they focus on a quality first. Everything we order was a palate pleaser. I have to say they have the best steak tartare in all Charleston and the Wood Roasted Peaches where excellent. Also loved the Bistro Steak.
Not only is The Grocery one of Charleston's most exceptional restaurants for dinner, but their Happy Hour is arguably the best in town- half off all apps on the "produce" section of their menu, as well as half off pasta from 5-6 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday. Their service, food and drinks never miss.
The Grocery has one of the BEST happy hours in Charleston. My table ordered some of everything, and we enjoyed every dish. They also have a fantastic dessert menu too!
From the start to the end this place was 10/10. Unique dishes and impossible to pick a favorite. We had green tomato carpaccio, fried oysters, the sausage dish, churros and peach ice cream for dessert.
I have been to the grocery several times over the years. The food, service and atmosphere have always been good. The seating area is not tremendously large and there is a slightly upscale diner feel about the layout. It is a bit "open" and less intimate than a typical "date night" place but there is a charm to it. It is priced typically for the upscale Charlestom area. The fried oysters were delicious, the Halibut was good but the fish itself didn't have much flavor.
We were seated right away and the wait staff was very attentive. Awesome atmosphere and some really cool signature drinks. The Grocery has the look of a higher end restaurant and we had a good time here. The steak tartare was better than expected, however the swordfish was rather bland. All in all we would definitely try this place again!
We had a phenomenal time at The Grocery! The Spaghetti and Clams and Italian Chopped Salad were some of our absolute favorites. We'll definitely be coming back again for their awesome happy hour deals! If you haven't been just yet, I highly recommend paying them a visit!

I took my mom out to eat for dinner and stopped here after hearing a few people talk about this restaurant. We were the first ones in once they opened and decided to take a seat at the bar. We started with The Dirty Green Tomato and Hemingway's Folly for drinks. During my meal, I also tried The Spray Tan. Overall, we weren't really into the drinks..just not a hit for us🤷🏾♂️.
For our appetizer, we tried the Smoked Fish Dip which we really enjoyed. I think we'll go back and try a few more of their appetizers soon.
For our entrees, we had the Poached Wreckfish and the Wood Roasted Whole Snapper. The Wreckfish was a little bland for my mom's liking. But it was still good..just wish the portion was a little more. The Snapper was spot on! The vegetables and fennel was seasoned just right. And the meatiness of the fish was excellent. There was absolutely nothing left but the bones.
We enjoyed our time AND the meal! We'll have to go back and try some of their other entrees😛.

Recently moved to Charleston and The Grocery was recommended to us by a friend. It did not disappoint. The menu is unique and the plates and small yet well balanced and satisfying. I got the milanese and my husband got the steak. Both excellent. He especially loved the side potato. Drinks and service were excellent with a swanky Charleston atmosphere. Add the grocery to your list!!
