I cannot say enough good things about this place. Delicious, different, well seasoned food. Good atmosphere, friendly wait-staff who make you feel welcome despite not knowing Spanish. This place is just lovely.
After my first visit, it was already my second favorite restaurant.
Tried two appetizers, a meal, a soup, and dessert. I can't find a bad thing about to say.
Food is delicious, portions are big, and service is quick. Their green sauce is out of this world. I highly recommend their home made fruity drinks. Will definitely come back again.
Excellent Delicious and Super friendly service! Must visit - Can’t go to Peru? Go see them - Ceviche and Beef Heart Skewers, was amazing! Small little shop attached with goodies and a pleasant atmosphere!
I've been here about 6 or 7 times in the course of the past 3 years and the food is consistently awesome every time I've come. If you like to try new foods and you're looking for something rich in flavors and spices, come here. You might even become "hooked on Peruvian".
FOOD:
As APPETIZERS I usually get the Anticuchos - beef heart marinated in flavorful spices and vinegar - trust me, you won't know you're eating heart and you will definitely enjoy the taste. Easy to eat and a good way to get started. Another appetizer I love is the Yuca Frita with Huancaina sauce. The best way I can describe Yuca is: think of a cross between potato wedges and soft eggplant-like consistency. It's starchy and very soft. Dip them in the Huancaina sauce and your heart will be complete.
My favorite ENTREES:
Lomo Saltado - grilled sirloin steak strips accompanied by rice, tomatoes, onions, and French fries, topped with a very flavorful mignonette sauce.
Lomo a Caballo (one of my favorites) is basically the same as the Lomo Saltado but they also add fried plantains, sunny side up egg, and a sausage. So much flavor here.
Ceviche Mixto - If you love the taste of lime and seafood, and want something light but refreshing, their mixed seafood ceviche is the way to go. Now, before you say "oh I love ceviche!" - know that Spain and all Latin American countries each make their traditional ceviches a little differently. Being a huge fan of ceviche myself, and having tried lots of different traditional ceviches from different countries, I can say without a doubt, Peruvian ceviche is superior in more than just one way to all others (and no, I am not Peruvian so this isn't a nationalistic thing). The seafood variety you get is great (scallops, octopus, oysters, tilapia, shrimp and calamari) and the taste of lime with cilantro and other spices will wire up your taste buds sending shivers of happiness down your spine (sounds metaphorical but I'm really not kidding). Spicy is optional, but if you can handle it, I highly suggest getting yours extra spicy - it adds a lot of flavor to this dish.
TO DRINK - get their Pisco Sour (alcoholic). Refreshing and traditional. They make it very well here.
DESSERT: my favorite is the Lúcuma Ice Cream. Lúcuma fruit only grows in South America and has a unique and delicious flavor.
Alfajores (crumbly biscuits with dulce de leche in the middle), while not unique to Peru, they are still quite tasty here.
Not listed as a dessert but can be eaten either as dessert or to accompany your meal, get their order of Plátano Frito (fried plantain). Delicious and soft, comes with a side of condensed milk for dipping - Blissful!
SERVICE:
Service is very friendly. I usually get Franklin on duty and if you're new to Peruvian food, he can tell you everything you need to know and he'll even suggest things based on your taste. He's very passionate about Peruvian cuisine and will often suggest the best ways to eat something and which sauces to use for the different meals. If you're new to Peruvian food, he'll certainly take you by the hand and guide you.
Keep in mind, as it's common with a lot of Latin American restaurants, your server will come to you occasionally but you sometimes have to get their attention if you're ready to order or need something.
LOCATION / ATMOSPHERE:
Nothing fancy or trendy. Small enough to be called a "hole in the wall" but big enough to not feel suffocated, and they've always been able to accommodate large parties.
A couple of times I've come when they had live Peruvian music which was a great treat.
PRICE:
I went back and forth between removing a star because, in my opinion, the prices are a bit high for the portions you get with some of their dishes. However, the flavors and quality are worth the extra buck (which is why I keep coming back). If I were able to just knock off half a star I would, but in the end I feel this place deserves to keep it because of the amazing food and friendly service.
Wow! Amazing food as it’s always been, but with the new owners the ambiance is much better. Good tunes, quick service and food you will have dreams about. All plates are amazing, not expensive, highly recommended!
El ceviche mixto está increíble! Wow que delicia! It was an amazing environment and the ceviche was just an amazing mixes for flavor. One of the best ceviches I have tasted!
Closest taste to my grandmothers. Delicious. Please give it a try. Savory and very filling 💙
Wonderful food, efficient and friendly service. A delightful discovery for visitors from Oregon!
The new owners are absolutely AMAZING! The two brothers that serve you and their mother cooking in the kitchen are so inviting they make you feel like family when dining in the restaurant. The flavors in the food are to die for, mom really knows here cultures cuisine and has mastered it. The service and attention from her son's is 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ through and through. There was even a dish that we had explained to them that happened to not be on their menu, mom said she would knew how to make it and if we wanted to have it next time we came in to call ahead and she would have it ready for us. Now if that's not accommodating service I don't know what is. We will definitely be returning again and again. Please don't ever change!!! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I really enjoyed eating here with my friends. None of us were familiar with Peruvian cuisine. One of us ordered a fish dish, one a chicken stew and one a seafood combination dish. All three of us had the spice level adjusted to our taste. We really liked the dishes we ordered. Service was attentive. The restaurant decor is not fancy. We will definitely return to further explore an interesting menu and cuisine.
