Reviews of Lan Zhou Restaurant

Never had soup dumplings before so you can imagine how excited I was to try them at this place where I have tried so many delicious fresh menu items. Took over a half hour (while not busy at all, only one other customer) to get soup dumplings out to me that had no soup in it. A good flavor to whatever I ate but it was definitely not soup in those soup dumplings. I guess I will have to try actual soup dumplings someplace else

The house noodles weren’t bad, but salty. The roasted duck noodles were ok as well, but salty. Also, they gave the duck head. The seafood noodles tasted like they used old squid and shrimp. The squid and shrimp was overcooked. The squid was like rubber. All of the noodle soup broths had the flavor and saltiness of instant noodles. The fried pork and chive dumplings lacked flavor. My biggest issue is that the pricing on the menu and the wall have old pricing and you won’t know it until you order. I estimated my order to be a little over $50, but it was $66. I asked the young guy at the counter for an itemized receipt and he said all the pricing was old. I understand that everything has gone up, but they should at least remove the old pricing if they don’t want to update it. I would avoid this place because of the quality and flavor of the food and the deception with pricing. I don’t know how it has a 4.6 rating here. I’ll give the hotpot place a try the next time I’m in the area.

The BEST northern Chinese noodles in Atlanta! I love how chewy and fresh they taste! The owner of this Lanzhou Ramen has changed and they are amazing! The service is wonderful and the owner told me that they try to make fresh food instead of using frozen packaged food, especially 油条fried dough and 糖油饼. Fresh made fried dough will not contain so much oil and taste much better. As a northern Chinese, I strongly recommend people who miss northern food come here!

Absolutely loved everything ordered there. The savory donut sticks plus fresh made soy milk is the the perfect and traditional breakfast in northern China. The owner and her family were very friendly and recommended very delicious dishes as they do have quite a big menu. I had to go back the following night and ordered the spicy beef burger, pork feet and the beef noodle soup 🍲. This is going to be my must-go spot in the Atlanta area.

Back in October, I was heading down Buford Highway, looking for dinner, when I put “ramen” in Google maps. It led me to Lan Zhou Ramen.  Lan Zhou shares a parking lot with both Chef Liu and Supermercado Chicago (home of fantastic tamales at the counter in the back – and the best fresh masa you can buy, that I know of).  From the reviews that I’ve read on-line, they are not related to the Lan Zhou Restaurant  located in the Chinatown mall food court.  They both just reference the same place: Lan Zhou, the “noodle capitol” of China.  Lan Zhou is known for their hand-pulled noodles.

I stopped by the China Town Food Court for a quick, satisfying meal. I haven't been there in awhile; they seem to have added several new restaurants and perhaps even freshened up the decor a bit. I walked in the door convinced that I was going to order dan dan noodles but one glance at the ma po tofu swayed me. I was very satsifed with my order. The combination of soft, silky tofu, hot sauce, and bits of savory pork are a winning combination. Lan Zhou did an excellent job with it. The tofu was cut into small pieces, giving me some good practice with my chopstick skills but also allowing the flavors to soak thoroughly into the tofu. Since it says noodles on the sign, I guess I should go back and try those dan dan noodles...

Best hand pulled noodles in Atl. Chive pie is excellent as well. Being in the food court in "Chinatown", don't expect ambiance or delicate flavoring, but you can watch them make fresh noodles, take in the scene and maybe even try another stall while u wait---next door at the Szechuan place you can get great dumplings.
