Fun & Tasty
San Marcos Café was hopping at brunch time on a Sunday morning when we stopped in. They were able to squeeze us in, which was appreciated. There was a fun and festive buzz about the place.
We had a nice, late breakfast and everything was real good. We enjoyed their famous cinnamon rolls which are more like croissant batter rolled up and stuffed inside a muffin wrapper. The chicken sausage was tasty and the toast that comes with breakfast was real good. The coffee was strong and poured regularly.
A guitar-playing singer set up and added to the already great atmosphere.
Gotta love the peacocks!. The San Marcos Cafe is situated on the Turquoise Trail between Santa Fe and Madrid and it delightfully blends eclectic aspects of both. After an awesome meal (everything I have had is excellent), take some time to wander around the north side where peacocks and turkeys roam freely. The birds are very used to people and not aggressive at all. If you have some more time, wander on down the trail to Madrid and savor its quite eccentric charms. Back to the point of this review, you will fall in love with the staff as well as the food. It's one of my favorite places in the world.
Outstanding food although a bit pricey; however the warmth of the lady owner and the cute ambience were worth the drive from Santa Fe. Two cinnamon rolls, two heuvos rancheros and two coffees set us back $36 plus tip. Alternative choice would be Tecolte Cafe on Cerrillos.
Best of the Best. Been a favorite for a long time. Outside the city on NM 14 it is an eclectic cafe that is part of a feed store for the many rances along the Turquoise Trail. The Huevos are fantastic...the enchiladas with blue corn tortillas to die for...and the specials are always terrific and imaginative. Top it all off with a signature cinnamon roll and your meral is complete. Lmiited hours for lunch but a trip worth taing and not to be missed when visiting NM. Enjoy fellow Urban Spooners!
Contrary to some popular opinion, roosters don’t crow just to be noisy or annoying. They crow as a sign of territorial advertising; they’re protecting their turf. At San Marcos Cafe, the cacophonous din of crowing roosters is understandable considering th
Great place for breakfast, especially if you are heading down to Madrid for the day. You could easily pass this place by because it is in the middle of nowhere but definitely worth the stop. Will become a regular for us on our trips to Santa Fe.
Wow! What an excellent experience. We had picked a rather busy morning to try San Marcos Cafe and let me assure you it was worth the wait! The service was punctual and friendly and the food was amazing! You will need to order a cinnamon roll while you visit this cafe as theirs has to be one of the best I've experienced. Your team rocked the morning rush like a well oiled machine. We will be returning!
I'd like to also thank the feed store! You have saved me so many trips into town. Thank you for supplying such a wide variety of farm and garden supplies. Staff is always friendly and ready to help. I am grateful your here.
Simple food but so good!! Very nice staff in a typical southwestern environment. Our family strongly recommend this stop on the Turquoise Trail.
Excellent breakfast/lunch place that is just a little ways out of Santa Fe. It is a treat for me to go for a large breakfast. Famous for their cinnamon rolls.
Amazing red chili stew and guacamole. Cute interior. Great service. Will visit again!
This is a must see! Outside of town, it will not disappoint! Good breakfast options and a nice place to meet the locals, take a stroll through the courtyard and say hey to the baby peacocks.
What a GREAT place!! Just a short drive south of Santa Fe, and directly off the historic Turquoise Trail. Menu is simple, but offers a wide selection of New Mexican fares, along with daily specials. The quaint, adobe dining room puts you back in time. There's a side room that offers views of property and garden. HIGHLY recommend!
Excellent breakfast, friendly service. Definitely recommend this place! 5 stars!
