We did not think we were going to have a cake! One caterer called them “dinosaurs” and said everyone was doing dessert bars now. But a coworker said, “But you should still go have cake tastings! Those are fun and free and delicious.”
Well, the tasting is how Sugar Bakers reels you in…damn, if each flavor wasn’t better than the last! Our salesperson brought out a beautiful plate of eleven flavors and additional dollops of the three types of frosting. Of the flavors, four stood out to me as especially delicious: Peach Melba (the best!), Chocolate Mousse Toffee, Amaretto Raspberry, and Red Velvet. I also thought the Lemon Mousse and Strawberry Breeze were quite good. My partner also liked the Toasted Coconut Cream and Cannoli d’Ville flavors; I found them a bit too subtle.
For our 100-person wedding, we chose a simple cake of three round tiers, with the bottom tier Peach Melba and the upper tiers Red Velvet, all with French buttercream (rich and silky, and much less sweet than American buttercream, which they also offer if that’s your preference). (We loved those two flavors and their retro-ness fit well with our theme to boot.) Because ANY frosting decoration immediately escalates the price a lot, our salesperson recommended we get it plainly frosted, and then provide ribbon they would put around the base of each layer at no extra charge, and that we provide a cake topper. We did this and it was cute, if a bit plain.
Their website offers so many beautiful designs, including incredible stuff with fondant, but of course, fondant doesn’t taste great (guests can peel it away from the buttercream underneath on their serving, if desired) and takes the price from maybe $6/serving to $11-13/serving. It’s too bad because I was enamored of the Pickle Barrel cake on their site and so wanted it for my country fair themed wedding. But ours was cute with the ribbon, flag bunting topper from Etsy, and a few paper pinwheels added by our decorator (to echo the flag bunting in tent and vases of pinwheels as centerpieces).
The cake was delicious and we got many compliments on it. We had some to take home and enjoyed it on our own and with friends for several days after. SugarBakers was easy to work with from tasting through delivery, including a few emails and phone calls. I highly recommend them!
I love the amaretto raspberry and we recently got the dulce de leche. Heaven on earth. Some of my peeps love the carrot cake others love the red velvet. The chocolate satisfies any craving. Here's what I can tell you, it doesn't matter the cake, they never disappoint.
If you are getting married in Maryland, you NEED to order your wedding cake from Sugar Bakers! When we went for our tasting, we had no idea it would be so hard to choose a flavor for our wedding cake…so we chose 4! (Make sure you have a caterer booked before you try to schedule your tasting since this is their policy.) We chose red velvet with fudge, lemon with raspberry preserves, carrot, and vanilla with strawberry mousse cake flavors all with French buttercream icing. Khrissy was very helpful at the tasting and leading up to our wedding. She made sure our cake was delivered to Walker’s Overlook in Frederick, MD as close to our reception time as was possible to keep the cake fresh. Our cake was even more beautiful than our inspiration photos, and did not melt after 4-5 hours outside at our wedding on 9.25.21.
I can say with confidence that our wedding cake is the best wedding cake I have ever tasted, and I am so glad we ordered enough for all 250 guests- they loved it! We ordered raspberry filled lemon and fudge filled red velvet cupcakes with butter cream icing a month later and they were also fantastic, and we are really looking forward to our complimentary one year anniversary cake! Thank you Sugar Bakers for an unforgettably delicious wedding cake!

We used Sugar Bakers for our wedding cake and it was an amazing experience! My husband and I had so much fun going to the shop to do the cake tasting and picking out which flavors/icings we wanted. We ended up picking raspberry amaretto and the red velvet, and both were fantastic on the day of the wedding! We received many comments from our guests about how wonderful the cake was. The shop was also very responsive throughout the whole planning process. We highly recommend!
We worked with SugarBakers for our small wedding cake and cupcakes. They were easy to work with and responsive, even through the COVID uncertainty of 2020. We enjoyed our cake tasting and choosing the flavors for our cake and cupcakes. On the big day, all was delivered on time, looked beautiful, and was delicious!
Our wedding cake was DELICIOUS! I loved that SB was able to work with us on customizing the design to include our pup! Definitely recommend!!
Anne was so wonderful to work with-very helpful, professional, and warm. I was so pleased with how our cake turned out. The flowers on it were gorgeous and the flavor was beyond delicious!
Sugar Bakers provided the MOST BEAUTIFUL and DELICIOUS cake for our Dec 29, 2021 Gramercy Mansion wedding. OMG are the only words to describe how this wedding cake looked and tasted. It was absolutely PERFECT. Not one flaw in design or taste. It was the most beautifully made and decorated cake. It was a dream cake and Sugar Bakers delivered flawlessly. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! They took a picture of what we desired and made it reality. Absolutely stunning! The taste moist and delicious. Thank you for making a dream reality. Just gorgeous work!!!

Check out this awesome cake from Sugar Bakers! I requested a Bud Light Lime birthday cake. They made an ice bucket cake, a lime slice and bottle opener. I provided the beer bottles (using mini wine bottles) and taped the BLL logos. Ann was the person who took my order. She’s very friendly and helpful. Thank you so much for making the cake!
This cake is always a hit! Amaretto raspberry cake with french butter cream. Nicely decorated from a photo of the baby shower invitation. Do yourself a solid and order more than you need so you have leftovers!
