Now that Southside's "Dish Osteria" has closed, "131 Main" in Carnegie(PA) is our #I area restaurant! The chef just "nails it" every time! The menu is varied and each entree is unique in some way. It's NOT far-out ingredients that you don't have a clue what it may be. The staff is so friendly and helpful. They know each dish and give a detailed explanation. Great wine selection, great cocktails. Check the menu online for prices and selections. There is a weekday "happy hour" at their bar also. If you haven't been to Carnegie lately, you'll marvel at it's vitalization. There are unique shops and eateries. The metered curb parking and larger lot next to "131 Main" is FREE after 6 PM.

I can't believe it took us this long to try this place. Everything was on point. What's nice is you actually leave full compared to other fine dining experiences where you get a small plate and hit up a drive thru to fill you up. The Day Boat Scallop dish was amazing, glad I got eat my wife's leftovers. This will be a regular stop from now on. Highly recommended.

The watermelon gazpacho soup is one of the best things I have ever eaten in my life! 131 East Main is a local treasure.

Coming from the hospitality industry, with owning and running my restaurant for 25 years.... This Resturant is by far one of the best I have eaten at. If there were 6 stars available. That would be my number. My experience was way above 5 stars.

Great service! The pumpkin soup was phenomenal. It had an awesome kick of curry and black pepper so it wasn't sweet at all. Had the hanger steak that was cooked to perfection with crispy rosemary fries. Hubby had a pork chop that was at least two inches thick. They even subbed his noodles for the poutine at no extra charge. Wine selection was also great. We will definitely be back!

Excellent service. The food was prepared to perfection. And the atmosphere was the tops. Absolutely would recommend. The sea bass and ahi tuna were cooked perfectly. The seared scallops w/ fried green tomatoes were most memorable, however. And finished it all off with the neopolitan cheesecake! We’re def goin back

Wonderful! Good atmosphere and not overcrowded. Our server was helpful and attentive but not annoying. He answered all our questions and happily provided suggestions. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their drinks, starters and mains. The beef short ribs were awesome! We happened to run into the chef on our way out and he was very friendly and appreciative of our compliments. We will definitely be back.

Delicious! Must try in Carnegie! We made last minute reservations and they didn't have a table in the dining area but pushed two together in the front of the bar and it was perfect! The waiter was very well versed on the menu and answered all of our questions and offered great suggestions. Our table ordered the brussel sprouts which were different but very good. Both salad choices, beet and house were fresh and delicious as well. Our dinners were fantastic. Lamb noodle and the veal osso bucco. The Malbec Margarita was a great cocktail. We were very pleased and definitely will return.

A couple of weekends ago, we decided to try a place we'd heard a lot about: One Thirty One East. It's in Carnegie, across from Carnegie Coffee and next to the public parking lot. We were seated on the first level in the bar area. It's welcoming and cozy. The colors are deep blues, silver, and brown and there was a hint or sparkle/glitter to the curtains covering the windows. I ordered a glass of Chenin Blanc/Viognier, SP ordered iced tea and a Barrel Aged Last Word cocktail. I can't remember the description other than it was a gin cocktail. SP likes gin so he liked it a lot.

Waiter Dan is the Man!. Had a great evening last night. And all the "young" ladies in our party thoroughly enjoyed our drinks and meals. The garlic and white bean soup is a must try. Will definitely be visiting again.

What an amazing addition to the Pittsburgh dining scene. The cocktails are lovely. The food was amazing. Pricey, but worth every penny. I rank this place right up there with Salt of the Earth. Divine, you must try it.

Carnegie What!!!!. Soo I heard about this place from a friend and decided to check it out because the reviews on urbanspoon were amazing and boyyyyy were they right! !! First off shout out to dan the best waiter ever. He not only went over the specials, but he discussed with us every detail from the chef to his likes and dislikes (which there were none) he was genuinely concerned with making sure we had an excellent experience. I had the shrimp and grits which was considered an appetizer but was HUGE! Mussels, shrimp, andouille sausage perfection and lets talk about this amazing grit cake that came along with it it was buttery and melted in your mouth. My friend had the chicken and grits and she is super picky and ate till she thought she would burst! I definitely recommend this to place to anyone everyone. They don't advertise its word of mouth only so please get the word out. You won't regret it !! 2 thumbs up and if I had more they would be in.

Excellent dining experience....in Carnegie? YES!!. I had a date night opp Saturday evening and chose One Thirty One East; I was pleasantly surprised. The staff was extremely attentive and every dish I tried was out of this world. Kudos to the chef! The waistress was well versed in gluten free issues, which is always a plus. Don't let the location of this little gem fool you. It is very up-scale dining. I agree with one reviewer that the wait on the entree was a bit longer than I would have liked, but it was worth it. The meal was prepared and presented perfectly. I noticed that the bar area was very lively and the people seemed to be having a great time interacting with the bartender. I'd like to visit again and sample the drinks and happy hour appetizers.

Lived up to expectations. Had the Brussels sprouts app followed by the Osso bucco entre. Both were well presented and flavorful. Our server Sarah was knowledgeable and pleasant. Very cool that there are finally top notch dining choices in Carnegie. It's not just a shot and beer town anymore!

As the late Harry Caray would say 'It could be, it might be, it is, it’s a Home Run'. Well that's what we were treated to last night. From soup to nuts, Chef Bernie did not disappoint. We each started with one of their eclectic cocktails. Since restaurant makes all its syrups and bitters from scratch the drinks are truly wonderful and unusual. The 'Aviation', gin based with maraschino liqueur and Creme Yvette and the Rhubarb Margarita were just a few. The appetizer ‘Fried Select Oysters’ was sublime. Fresh plump oysters flash fried and served with a caper malt vinegar remoulade. These melted in your mouth! Our waiter Brandon recommended the ‘Special Salad’. It was refreshing and delightful. Wonderfully fresh tomatoes (no Giant Eagle ones here) on a bed of mixed greens, Maytag bleu cheese all drizzled with a white balsamic vinaigrette. The entrees and a bottle of 2012 Chronic Cellars Purple Paradise, California red table wine were the stars of the night. Michelle had the Faroe Island Salmon (see Pictures). A nice filet of Marcona almond crusted salmon, perfectly cooked resting on a somewhat over salted (only complaint of the night) Asiago grit cake. I had the Kurobuta Pork Chop. It was ginormous! This double cut, bone in chop was grilled to perfect medium. Tender, juicy....heavenly. But the dessert, yes the dessert.... stole the night. We normally don’t eat dessert when we go out, mainly because we’re too full. But tonight, since it was our anniversary, I thought what the hell, and I’m glad we did. The Peach Cheese Cake Bread Pudding is probably the best dessert I’ve ever had. Warm, tender and succulent with a generous dollop of sweetened real whipped cream, I could have had two... or maybe three... Barndon was knowledgeable and prompt, ask for him. We chatted with Chef Bernie at the end of the night, a truly great ending to a fantastic meal at a restaurant I recommend highly.

Nice Place for Lunch. Stopped in for lunch.
The first floor is mostly a long bar and a few tables.
The interior is very nicely done and a little more upscale than I expected.
The Chef came out and was fun to talk with.
The menu had a few more creative items on it.
The Crab Bolognese was very good.

Check it out!. Missed it driving down East Main - had to turn around - it's on a corner but the signage is understated. Walked in to a friendly greeting from the hostess - the place is cute and modern. Stopped at the bar for a drink - they have a nice happy hour with $6 selected cocktails and apps. Had a Whiskey Sour and Sweet, the "sweet' is a spoonful of tasty housemade jam but there was no good way to mix it in with the drink (it's served in a demitasse spoon up top). App was the brussels sprouts, which could easily become an addiction - charred with a sweet sauce, nice combo. Entree was the scallops pasta, which was very good although the presentation lacked finesse and I would have liked to have seen the scallops seared, I think it would have added more flavor. Also,, the zucchini "pasta" was WAY oversalted - and I love salt, so it was ok with me, but the average diner might be put off. Dessert, grilled peaches with mascarpone, was a nice light finish. With friendly service and good food, I will be back - I wish the owners well and am hopeful they will meet with great success. The location isn't ideal but then neither was Lawrenceville at first and good food brought people in. I think this location is close enough to Mt Lebanon that the diners there (me included) who are so bored of what is on offer closer to home will venture over, and it will also draw folks along the 79 corridor. Good luck, 131, see you again soon.

Thoroughly enjoyable. A recommendation by Veronica had us salivating. It was a very nice experience and we will definitely be back. Steve our server was one of the best we have had in Pittsburgh. Our food was delicious from Bob's basket to the manhattan clam chowder to the key lime cheesecake and the grilled peaches with the marscapone. Bernie does a fantastic job with the sauces for the pasta with scallops and vegetables and the hangar steak. The paella was divine with the 131 sauce. It was a special birthday dinner and we had a handicapped person with us so we were not able to dine outside on the rooftop but will do so very soon. It is a true gem.

My Happy Place. Four of us tried the "new place" for lunch yesterday. Started with the fried oyster app and roasted brussel sprouts. The oysters were so fresh and lightly fried and the Asian glaze on the sprouts, delish. Then rolled into salad, flat bread w/ caramelized onions, duck breast sandwich and saffron seafood paella. Couldn't resist trying some house made cocktails. Saying that everything was outstanding would be the least I could say. Richard the bar tender and our waiter couldn't have been more helpful and friendlier. Chef Bernie came out and chatted with us making us feel right at home. Will we be back? YOU BET!!!

You have to get here and try this place. Lots of parking right next door. Easy to get to in Carnegie right off the parkway. Great place. Amazing food and atmosphere.

The appetizers, entrees & desserts are consistently delicious. The staff is attentive and eager to please. I love the salmon & scallop entrees. Yummy brussels sprout, swordfish & oyster apps. Only one minor difficulty-- the acoustics on a busy night. Clean, soothing atmosphere. Kudos to chef & staff.

A fun place with great energy and good food!

I travel for work and was in Pittsburgh for the week. I found 131 on a fluke and have been eating here all week! The chef, Bernie, is approachable and his food is pretty incredible. He calls it 'World Fusion Freestyle', probably technically correct, but I'm a scientist, not a trained foodie, so I would describe it as... Disparate flavors and textures, independent of geographic origin that are assembled in harmony that I have not yet encountered. The end compositional result is extraordinarily memorable and well... Freaking awesome!!!

Great eats!

Fine dining in Carnegie?. You bet! This is a very nice restaurant. Dinner was delicious and service was perfect. They have a $6.00 Happy Hour menu with drink and appetizer specials like Eleven in Pittsburgh. I think the place has only been open for 3 weeks but there were none of the usual problems with new restaurants. The only clue as to how new the place is was how hard they worked to make everything perfect.

Now I know what "World Fusion Free Style" tastes like!. Absolutely out of this world delish! My husband, daughter and I paid our first visit to this new, creatively decorated restaurant. We are looking forward to our next. We ordered 3 apps: fried oysters, Bob's basket and the crispy brussel sprouts. We shared and loved the unique flavor of each. (Never knew one could make a brussel sprout taste like the chef did). I chose Veal Osso Bucca for myself and I had to stop myself from licking the plate. My husband devoured his seafood bowl, along with our daughter's delight with her hanger steak. As the family that we are, we completed the night fork fighting over our dessert selections. I've already decided, I'm trying the duck on our next visit.

Great new restaurant!!. I attended one of the soft openings with two of my friends, and I walked away very impressed. The ambiance and decor was amazing - very classy, made you feel right at home and relaxed! We were greeted and sat promptly. Wait staff was extremely attentive, we did not find ourselves wanting for anything.

I had the stuffed salmon wrapped in filo. The portion was great, and it was cooked perfectly. I was pleasantly surprised to find, mixed among the spinach filling, a gigantic piece of lump crab meat inside, as well as some jumbo sized shrimp. The orange butter sauce drizzled on the plate was perfect for the dish. My friends ordered the hanger steak and the seafood bowl. The steak was tender and seasoned well, and the rosemary sea salt fries were hot and crispy. The brown bourdelaise sauce that accompanied the steak was tasty! The seafood bowl was PACKED - almost stew-like! The roasted vegetables and broth married very well with the mix of seafood, and the cavatelli noodles helped soak up some of the broth. We did not try any of the house made cocktails, but the table next to us had ordered a few rounds and everything looked great (we will be trying something from the bar next visit!)

All in all, an excellent meal and experience, and we WILL be back to see what else they have in store!

It’s somewhat upscale version of American cuisine. People in our group really enjoyed the meat choices. My salmon was good but not extraordinary. I would recommend this place for nice dinner with coworkers

Had a great dinner tonight. Jace was our server.... Got the meatball appetizer and Braised Short Rib and the Lamb Noodle main plate. Absolutely delicious. Cute restaurant..... Although Carnegie isn't the prettiest place, this was a gem and it's near a few places for before /after drinks also.

I’m not sure if I should open with WOW or DUUUUUUUUDE! Incredible hidden gem of a restaurant! Everything start to finish was great. The Malbec margarita stole the stage for drinks and the lamb noodle stole the entire show for the evening! Our server Fallon (like Jimmy Fallon) was great, she was spot on with her recommendations and friendly service! We will definitely be back!

This place is just amazing. It was some of the best scallops I have ever had. Their soup was out of this world. Skip downtown and come here instead better food and less fussy than downtown.
