Have been to Club Jalapeno several times and have never been dissapoined! Our favorite thing to get is the stuffed artichoke.......mouth watering!!
CLUB JALAPEÑO DESERVES A CHANCE SO ENJOY!
There aren’t many places to get pleasure and enjoyment from Mexican dining in Carmel; but Club Jalapeño can deliver the payload. At the last minute we decided to give it a try…it was worth the trip and it was a not so easy place to find…. But we did in downtown Carmel. We began with a couple of Margaritas – the regular with salt and the Cadillac --rocks and salt. Both were well balanced with sweet and sour tastes making for a good beginning. The only way to support the drinks was to order Chips, which were extra – really? Too bad, while the chips were a good portion – was it really necessary to make it an extra a la carte type item? We accommodated the chips with some really marvelous guacamole (smooth, with just the right spices). We ordered the Baja Fish Soft Tacos. While the menu says ‘fried’ fish – we requested ‘grilled’ and they met our order – quite adequately. The Tacos were accompanied with a nice Cabbage Log with lots of crutch to compliment the Tacos. It was tasty and just enough for two – and very substantial. But with the chips, drinks and Tacos – it was a bit pricey. On the “Tommy B Restaurant Rating Scale” from “A” to “F” Club Jalapeño gets a “B” – we would have given it a higher rating if they provided a few chips without charging, I mean…really????
Was visiting some friends in Monterey and asked to try a Mexican place while we were out west. Our friend took us here and raved about it. Nice and small was a good way to describe it. The chips and salsa were very good and some of the best that I have had at a Mexican restaurant. I ordered the Grande Burrito with beef and my SO ordered the Baja Fish Tacos. His food was delicious and good fish. My dish was eh at best. The beef was left on the flat top a little too long and became too burnt and crunchy. The prices were a little bit higher than we expected, even for Carmel, so we shot a little lower on the menu. The service could have been better as one waiter was handling all 10-12 tables at once, so things like refilling drinks, questions went to the wayside. Will give this place another shot when we come back out again though!!
We had a hard time finding this place, but glad we did. Their chips were delicious. They were crispy and also had an light airiness about them. I'm writing this review 5 months after my honeymoon in Carmel, and still remembered how good this place was.
We had trouble finding the place and our server's dad came out to greet us after we called for directions! How nice! That's device and the food is so yummy too!
Fresh food .. As authentic as it gets! Small cozy place. Service is a bit slow but that's ok if you are on vacation.
Terrific Mexican food and great margaritas. Try the artichoke appetizer and bean and chorizo dip! We will be back!
Delicious Entrees! Charming, Classy Decor!. Delicate Mexican flavors will entice your taste buds. Spicy enchiladas and their chili rellenos are fabulous.
Treat yourself!
My favorites include the Tijuana Tacos, chicken Chili Rellenos, and the Club J's sizzling Fajitas with chicken or beef, onions, tomatoes, bell pepper, tortillas, sour cream, and beans.
Kind of small and loud. Could have been cuz it was Cinco De Mayo when I went. Margarita I got was delicious. Food was great. Nothing too special but the sauce on my tacos was really good. Went to the hat shop in the same area and got free nachos and they were definitely great.
Loooove Club Jalapeño! Have been here at least 20-30 times and it never disappoints. Try the tacos Oaxaca, Gabriela's enchiladas, spicy chicken quesadilla or spicy enchiladas! And the chips and salsa you do have to pay for, but this is not your ordinary chips and salsa, totally worth it. Wait staff can be a little slow when it's busy, but it's just because there are usually only two of them there, they are both super nice and try their best. Definitely worth a visit!

Club Jalapeno offers a refreshingly different take to the regular Mexican fare- the offer sauces that are rich with flavor and spice. We had serendipitously discovered the place- thanks to my wife’s googling skills and it turned out to be a great pick.
This trip around, we had four adults in the group- giving us the luxury to taste as many different dishes. We started off with some piping hot Jalapeno Poppers and an order of Cheese crisp for the little guy. The Cheese crisp was like a love child of thin crust pizza and quesedilla. The dipping peach habanero salsa that accompanied it was excellent.
For the main course, we chose the following 4 dishes.
Senoritas Veggie Sampler (which a Senor chose no less) which was essentially a platter of verde rice (looks like coriander rice), tortillas, ensalada, roasted corn salsa and an awesome Chipotle sauce.
Spicy Cheese Chili Relleno which was topped with their signature outworldly spicy roasted yellow bell pepper sauce (take that in for a moment- it rocks).
Oaxacan Enchilada with a mole sauce to die for.
Spicy Enchilada filled with cheese and a big dose of their signature yellow bell pepper sauce (yep, we like it a lot).
We finished off our meal with a shared plate of flan which was pretty good. Overall, the second trip confirmed our initial suspicions- the love at first sight was very much true and here to stay.
Club jalapeno is the only bar I found that still sells Cabo Wabo Anejo warm with an orange twist. Yeah my good friend Aaron Hagar showed me that that's the only way you drink Cabo Wabo Anejo is warm with an orange twist and it's by far the best. Friendly atmosphere with excellent food and great customer service.
Great quesadia camarones. Loved everything we tried.
Friendly staff. Wonderful interpretations of Mexican dishes.
Great tacos. Decent Margarita. Took a few minutes to locate as this place is hidden behind other stores
Great food, service, and margaritas. Off the main street - find it for some great Mexican food.
Good food. Margarita's are great. Not expensive for a Carmel neighborhood.
Good Mexican food and drinks as well. Off of the main Ocean avenue area be sure to try it for dinner
Great carne asada, excellent salsa and chips... But a little expensive.... But it is Carmel.
