Review Hunkar Restaurant - Carlstadt

Food was great and staff was friendly. I really tried to have an abundance of patience with the service with current labor struggles but there has to be a limit. If you cannot service all your tables in a decent time frame/with regularity then as a restaurant you should not fill the tables and turn people away. Would probably be five stars if not for the slow service and basic disregard for our table as they got busier.

First time was there and we really enjoyed it. We tried iskender and it was incredibly delicious. Appetizers were so tasty and I can't find a word for their yummy rice pudding. Everything was great friendly staff, nice place we will be back soon..

Incredible view of Manhattan in the back. Ask for the patio! The mix platter was incredible, especially the most delicious grape leaves I’ve ever had! Bring your own beer and wine and they will gladly uncork and poor it for you. Thank you, Hunkar! We’ll be back!

Amazing food and outstanding service!! If you’re looking for authentic Turkish cuisine this is the place to be! All the food we ordered was sooo good and fresh!! Love the vibe of the place they have an area in the back that has views of the New York City!! Will definitely be coming back.

Amazing food and service! We walked in and luckily we were early enough they were able to accommodate us. We were in the front area. It was cozy, no complaints. But next time (TIP) we will make reservations for the back room. It has a beautiful view of NYC! Our orders: As it was cold we ordered Lentil Soup which was good Stuffed Eggplant is a must order so good! Beware the pepper on top. Bronzino was so good, crispy skin and tender flesh, well seasoned and comes with a salad Hunkar Begendi - A classic Istanbul dish - lamb chunks cooked in tomato sauce, served on eggplant puree blended with cheese. Very good, I do not like lamb but this was clean and had no gamey taste Will definitely come to get a table in the back and try other items!

This place is a gem when you want Turkish and Mediterranean food. Literally everything is so delicious. My wife and I keep coming back to this place. I definitely recommend it!

By far the best Turkish restaurant in NJ as far as I'm concerned, great food- got the Hunkar mix grill and baklava.Everything was very fresh and delicious.Friendly staff and really nice atmosphere our table was on the patio that has a nice view of NYC.Great experience I highly recommend going there whenever you crave the best Mediterranean food

Hunkar is a gem. We always love visiting here when we’re in New Jersey. It’s got some of the finest Turkish food I’ve ever had. One of the best restaurants we’ve been to. The service is friendly, quick and smooth. The food is always fresh and consistently delicious. Everything off the menu is amazing. Make sure to get a wide range of appetizers; they’re all outstanding.m, and always served with warm Turkish bread and butter. It’s a meal in itself, but definitely try the entrees; they are also very good. My favorites are the lamb shank, Hunkar begendi and iskendar kebab. Be sure to finish up with a Turkish tea or coffee and one of their desserts. You’ll always have leftovers to take home! If you can reserve a table outside in the back. They have lovely views of Manhattan. Everything about this place is a winner!!!

Experience is great food at reasonable prices food is authentic great service and a pleasure to have a great meal. Chicken is fresh and tasty. The Shepard salad is amazing and the best part the food is healthy for you

Amazing! I requested the waiter surprise me with something other than a usual Kebob... He bright me the Hunkar Begendi (#34)... My new Favorite... Great food and service.

Food is great, but if u order fries you will get it as an appetizer.

Returning Customer. I recently ate there for the first time and was extremely impressed. We sat out on the terrace with a view of the NYC skyline. The service was wonderful and timed out our meal impeccably and the food was fantastic. The fish kebabs, stuffed cabbage, hunkar begendi, and kote kebabs were all fantastic and perfectly portioned. At the end of the meal we saw that they comped us our Turkish Teas on the house. We had a wonderful experience and will definitely be returning soon!
