This place is amazing! I ordered the curry with tonkatsu, veggies, and tofu and was so satisfied. This was a very clean meal, I did not feel too full or like I had eaten an overly-heavy meal and it was delicious. The tonkatsu was a thicker cut compared to other places and was perfectly cooked. My boyfriend got the stewed mackerel dish and he was so pleased.
I would suggest arriving a few minutes before they open or expect to wait a bit for a seat, but this is 100% worth the wait! I'll be dining here again as soon as I can.

I’ve been coming here for about 3 years now… I’ve tried almost everything on the menu and NOTHING disappoints. Best Japanese comfort food, friendly hosts and staff, and good miso soup with every meal. Prices barely changed since i’ve been going and great bang for your buck. Cannot recommend it enough.

Perhaps one of the best curry dishes I have had. There a lot of restaurants in Porter but this is small hole in the wall with excellent home made food that just tastes perfect. The portions are great, the price is fair and the service was good. Overall I really like this spot. If you are more than 4 people than you probably won’t fit.

Swung by here after a Celtics’ game per a friend’s insistence and it was worth the trip. Authentic Japanese street food with a modest variety of choices on the menu. Seating is limited.

Amazing, simple Japanese curry. The chicken katsu was crispy and curry is thick and flavorful. I added tofu and it was super silky. Limited seating, but friendly staff and unbeatable prices. Portions are big too

The taste was good! But we waited quite long for the server to take our order and the food to arrive.

The staff are fantastic! I LOVE this place. I come here maybe a few times a month. The Curry sets are amazing. The portions are very generous for the price. Cafe Mami curry is the ultimate comfort food. The curry is rich, smooth and hits you right in the soul. I always get the rockin chicken set with a side of curry.

Cafe Mami in Porter Square food court is known for their Japanese style Hamburg sets. It’s not a beef patty with buns, but more like a meatloaf. It is super delicious, but this time I wanted to try out some of their other offerings. I decided on a Donburi, rice bowl dish. Soft fluffy egg with fried chicken over a bowl of rice. There are also other varieties of Donburi with different meats. While I love eggs, this was almost too much egg and I could hardly finish the chicken – it was a lot of toppings! Their pork katsu was a thick pork cutlet fried crispy with drizzle of tangy katsu sauce. I was surprised that this katsu was so much better than the one at Ittyo , a couple stalls down, which supposedly have the same owners. The Ittyo version was a thinner pork cutlet. I would definitely try the curry katsu next time. The post Cafe Mami – Porter Square | Cambridge, MA appeared first on Take Time Away .

The more things change, the more they stay the same. I loved Cafe Mami when I was in college and still love their garlic lemon chicken to this day.

Really BAD service! Misleading menu! Foods are NOT as good before!!!!. What happened to the foods? What happened to these Chinese songs???? Why did I had to be treated like a idiot when I am just a customer??

Cafe Mami used to be a really full of taste Japanese restaurant. It was one of my best favorite. The beef sirloin sizzling dish was a god's gift. Not sure since when, thier foods got changed, there was no more lines waiting for table. The worst part is, they hired this black eye glasses Chinese waitress with a really bad temper who plays Chinese song at work (Why isn't it Japanese song?). I don't think it's an idea for me to go back there ever again unless I don't have to see that waitress again. I do miss the vegetable curry there, because their curry is much more rich and spicy than Ittyo.

Porter Exchange, located in Porter Square, is filled with Japanese food stalls and restaurants. Take your pick from noodles and rice bowls to pastries. Cafe Mami is just one of the small stalls where you can get great food for cheap. With nothing on the m

Definitely try the garlic lemon chicken or one of the curry dishes. Just be prepared to wait for weekend lunches but definitely worth it.

We tried Cafe Mami on Friday night. Cafe Mami is tiny - it has a bar area that seats about 4 people and then two larger tables that fit 4-6 people each. That's it. Oftentimes, they will seat two parties at each of the tables. The food at Cafe Mami was che

Not the usual eatery. Tiny, cramped but efficient Japanese "fast food". Chicken dishes are flavorful and skillfully cooked, but smallish. Value is only middling.

After an unsuccessful trip to Tacos Lupita (they were closed on Labor Day), PK and I decided to check out Café Mami at the Porter Exchange Building. This is another one of the too many restaurants that have been on my list for a few years.
