We had my sister's bridal shower at Catalyst Restaurant and it was so perfect. Robyn, their event coordinator, is the greatest. She is helpful, creative, and flexible. They have great private and semi private rooms for events. The food was incredible. Our server, Christian, was so attentive and kind. We really can't say enough good things and would highly recommend for any event!

We ordered NYE takeout and it was amazing. We got a mezze plate, gigantic beef wellington, clam chowder, sides and a lemon goat cheese cheesecake. I was impressed with everything!
The whipped feta and hummus were both creamy and we'll seasoned. The clam chowder was thick with good sized bacon pieces that added great depth of flavor. Creamed spinach was fresh and reheated well in the oven, even the second day (we had a lot of leftovers). Stuffing and mac and cheese also did not disappoint. The best part of the meal was hands down the beef wellington. The meat was tender and the puff pastry shell crisped up nicely in the oven. Finally we had the cheesecake which was smooth with a crisp crust and fluffy whipped cream on top. I don't usually like cheesecake but I have been eating this one all weekend.
Thanks to everyone at Catalyst for putting together such an epic meal for us to enjoy at home.

I was here for an event and the food was very well prepared! The staff were also very helpful and kind. I can’t speak to the regular dinner service and menu, but their catered function was very well done.

I don't understand people's gripe about this place. I had a very good experience there while having dinner with a friend. Having heard many things about this place and receiving recommendations on what to order, I was very much looking forward to my meal there.
I OpenTable'd a reservation a few weeks ago and met my dining companion at the bar there for a quick drink before being seated for dinner. Immediately upon entering, I noticed how sleek, modern and yet so simple and welcoming the decor was. There's a lot of metal, woods and even stone: yet it is very simple and quite elegant. I can't exactly describe it, but it is very modern and with a naturish kind of twist: I totally dig it. On my left, I also noticed a nice gas fireplace which was a nice touch. The place isn't too dark either - I feel like they really outdid themselves and designed a very clever layout. It's spacious, it's inviting and has a great flow to it.
At the bar, I decided to order up an "Undecided" ($11) which let the bartender decide what I was drinking, after asking me what I was in the mood for. I requested something with some whiskey and ended up with a drink featuring some bourbon, Benedictine and lillet. It went down smoothly and i was now ready for the meal.
We were seated and bread arrived along with the menus and some water. After taking a quick glance at it, I was ready to order. I was going to get an appetizer and an entree and share a side or two of their small plates with my friend since we were both very hungry.
My meal started with their caramelized onion soup which was topped with a raclette toast and some roasted Cipollini onions ($9). Then came the main course which was a medium rare tournedos of beef with some rainbow chard, some house-made Tallegio ravioli with a Bordelaise sauce ($28). The meat was absolutely divine and extremely tender; the pasta was tasty however a tad dry (maybe from a heat lamp?) but the sauce paired well with the dish and my plate was clean within instants. I loved every single bite.
Luckily my meal wasn't over - as my main course arrived, so did two smaller, shareable plates: the first was a dish which was recommended by a friend of mine who had dined there previously and was their Garganelli pasta served with chicken oysters, bacon, black truffle butter ($10). That dish was pretty damn tasty and the chicken oysters were both original and absolutely amazing. For those who aren't familiar with the ingredient it's basically a piece of dark meat that's in the back of the chicken's thigh. They are about the size of the quarter and there's only two per chicken making it somewhat of a delicacy. It's delicious.
Along with that dish came an order of their grilled scallions which came topped with some almond pesto ($6) - They were pretty tasty as well.
All in all this place is an incredible addition to the Kendall Square food scene. While it's not a very affordable option, it's also not completely out of price and the quality is great. But aside from the great food, the service and the atmosphere make it a neighborhood gem. I look forward to returning there in the future whether it be for lunch, dinner, brunch or drinks. High five!

Had our wedding ceremony and reception here and it was amazing. Worked with Robyn, who has an amazing eye for detail, and she helped make it a stress-free day for us. Our wedding theme was "Food & Schmooze" and everybody loved Catalyst's food!

I went for a work event. It was tasty, food came out cold though. Decor was nothing special. It was nice enough but there are just so many places to select from in Cambridge that I don’t see anything that stands out about Catalyst.

We came for a pre-Valentine's day wine dinner: set menu and wine pairings. It was lovely. Terrific food, great service and outstanding wine. Kudos to the new pastry chef, as the petit fours were delicious. Excellent staff. We have only come for wine dinners and they all have been fantastic.

Catalyst burger actually had a lot of meat and bacon, more than expected! The fries were also generous and come with ketchup, honey mustard, and mayonnaise, and they were very crisp. Overall pretty surprising amount of food quality food for $20 at this type of restaurant.

Our evening started with juicy roasted beets paired with a fantastic goat cheese mousse, which tastes great slathered onto biscotti, which I initially thought was odd but I couldn’t be more wrong.

There’s a lot to explore at Catalyst, including a great looking bar with some good specials. I’ll have to make it a point to come back and check out their other menus, but it was a very good place for a business lunch.

Catalyst opened in Kendall Square last year providing modern American cuisine to the tech-filled area. With a 26-seat fully-stocked bar, along with a two-way fireplace, and an outdoor patio for the warmer months, this seems like the perfect spot for an after-work drink, or a dinner out in a quiet area. T & I headed over after an engagement party this weekend, hoping for a tasty & quiet early-bird Sunday bite to eat, and that is exactly what we found! We sat next to the floor-to-ceiling 30-foot windows, under the blown-glass light fixtures, and enjoyed a relaxed early dinner. I started with the lobster-coconut bisque with thai chili and a cilantro lobster fritter. This bisque may actually be my favorite lobster bisque I have ever tasted. The flavor combination was light and fully balanced, not too salty, not too thick, not too thin, definitely the Goldilocks-porridge of lobster bisque. The lobster fritter did not add much to the bisque, and I only wish it had more lobster meat t

Spicy Maple Syrup Wings were a unique addition to the brunch menu and were quite tasty. These wings had just a slight touch of heat with the sweet glaze. I tried to keep this dish a little closer to my end of the table.

Each plate was presented beautifully, and the best word to describe the beet salad is “whimsical.” Several of the beets were prepared differently than the others (one reminded us of a tuna tartare), which worked, although it seemed a bit random. My Israeli couscous dish was flavored perfectly, too – lots of smoky cumin and coriander enveloped this surprisingly light dish. I would have licked my plate clean if I didn’t fill up on cheese beforehand.

August 2, 2012 tags: Boston , Brunch by Colleen Catalyst , yet another newbie in the Kendall Square dining scene, has been my latest brunch discovery. My fellow bruncher Katie and I went on Sunday to try making a dent in our growing lists of Boston restaurants to try. Catalyst’s interior blends well with the high-tech neighborhood: high, exposed ceilings and modern glass light fixtures with and rustic wood and metal accents. The large, airy restaurant was actually a little intimidating when we walked in for brunch because it was almost entirely empty. Did everyone stay in because of the gloomy weather? We took at seat at the bar and immediately ordered one of the items off of the “For the Table” section of the menu. (I love that they encourage ordering appetizers for brunch because I’m usually starving!) As soon as the Banana Bread with Dulce de Leche arrived, I grabbed a slice and smeared it with the dulce de leche. Bad move. Dulce de leche is sweet (surprise, surprise). After a coupl

The room has a very modern, NY feel with metallic tones and decorations, and a wide-open kitchen. I was excited to try it and when I sat down and looked at the menu had trouble deciding because everything looked so good.

We started with the Mushroom Ravioli which were divine. It was hard to share those. Mr. S then had the Tournedos of Beef ... and I had the Roasted Cod .... I can die now. His was good and all but the my dish was the kind that you wish you were eating while home alone in your sweatpants so you could lick the bowl when you are done without anyone judging you.

Nothing fell below expectations and everything was excellent. The kind of meal that throws your endorphins into overload and makes you wish you never had to leave. Eating breakfast here will undoubtedly make your eyes roll back inside your head more times than you can count as you relish every last bite. I’m seriously hoping the depression I’ve entered having gone back to granola and fruit for five days surpasses soon; forget about TGIF, more like TGIBrunch.

For those of us ready for something sweet, we decided on the Bosc Pear Tart with house made crème fraiche ice cream and candied almonds. I really enjoyed this dessert, from the strong pear flavors to the combination of textures on the plate.

William Kovel's Catalyst warmly welcomes guests with a two-sided fireplace, a salvaged steel herb garden wall, hand blown glass light fixtures and potted succulents. The shiny industrial meets rustic reclaimed wood space is immaculate, the 30 foot sweeping windows immense and the rest of the contemporary decor is charming
