Good American-style Chinese food, with plenty of vegetarian options. Fast and friendly service. The interior is a bit worn and could use an update. Some of the dishes were a bit sauce heavy but flavors were quite good.
I truly enjoy this family owned and operated restaurant. There food is great and they will accommodate your preferences as long as you ask with no hassle. Highly recommend it to everyone visiting Calistoga.
BTW their orange beef is to die for!
We felt so cozy eating dinner at this family style restaurant.
Delicious Chinese food.
Big portions
Exquisite service
They make the wontons on site.
Humble family runs this special restaurant.
Love this place!! Their salt and pepper chicken is my favorite and their BBQ pork fried rice is super tasty too. I also appreciate that they deliver to my job at a local winery in Calistoga!
Easy going and unassuming ambiance. Food is excellent. My favorite dish is the King Pao Chicken, the hint of ginger in the sauce is so delicious! I also love their egg flower soup.
During our visit to Calistoga, we were in search of food options that catered to my gluten and dairy sensitivity. On a Tuesday, we stumbled upon Soo Yuan restaurant, which displayed multiple signs indicating "gluten-free options available." However, to our disappointment, the restaurant was closed that day. Undeterred, we returned the following day, Wednesday, and were promptly seated by a courteous server who was attentive to our inquiries.
I opted for the house special fried rice, a delightful combination of BBQ pork, shrimp, chicken, and various meats. While the taste was satisfactory, I felt it could have been seasoned a tad more. Additionally, I ordered the salt and pepper chicken wings, making sure to confirm their gluten-free status with the server. After checking with the chef, she informed me that they were not GF due to the batter but that they could make them GF for me. When the wings came out, I could immediately see that they were battered. I am grateful that I double-checked, as the wings were taken back to the kitchen, and the chef kindly prepared a gluten-free version without the batter. The chicken wings turned out to be hot, juicy, and flavorful.
Despite the initial mishap with the battered wings, my overall experience at Soo Yuan was positive. The restaurant staff was accommodating, and the quality of the food, aside from the minor seasoning adjustment, met my expectations
Ordered the ginger chicken and made it a combo and got hot & sour soup and egg rolls & steamed rice (not shown) should have shared! SOOO GOOD. Soup had sooo much flavor. I finished every bit. Ginger chicken was amazing!
Nice little Chinese restaurant in town. Fast service. The waitress is very friendly and recommend us to have the fried chicken. Will come back to this.
Fast service. A lot of food for the price. Food is really good. Compared to PF changs, I like the hot and sour soup and chow main here better. Service is good and flavor is outstanding. Only reason I gave it 5 stars. In a place where u compete against luxury and other fancy restaurants. This is a great bargain with great flavor.
Greeted at the door by friendly staff wearing a mask, I decided to dine in. I ordered a curry chicken dinner with a couple cans of diet Coke. Gotta make an effort somewhere, right?
Small but clean restroom was stocked well and has an air dryer to eliminate waste. Returned to my seat and food came shortly thereafter.
I posted a photo of the curry chicken. It was tasty, and not overpoweringly spicy so ask for spicy if that's how you prefer it. Mine was just the way I like it.
A couple came in to get a Togo order and I recommended the curry chicken and they got an order of that and something else, so yes I would and already DID recommend it.
I live in Florida but if I ever get up here again I would definitely eat here again. Thanks for the tasty meal and fond memory, Soo Yuan!
