This was an excellent dining experience. The waitress was great, the decor was beautiful, the food was so, so amazing and the chef even came out to ensure we had enjoyed the food. We got the steak tartare, crab artichoke dip, slow roasted prime rib, halibut and the seafood risotto. All of us loved our meals and were trying each other’s. We all recommend this place.

The rookery has been one of the places my husband and I love to frequent for a special night out. Unfortunately, this was the first time we have ever left disappointed. We ordered the Smoked Trout Dip for an appetizer. It was supposed to come with "sliced cucumbers and pita" per the menu. It came on chunks of cucumber with the core out, and no pita bread. Capers are usually hard to miss, and we didn't note any of those either. Maybe we did miss them... Although, it resembled a snack my child and I would make. Definitely not the high standards I have had at the Rookery in the past. I now see that the online menu is updated as only cucumbers, hopefully they updated their in-house menu too. I ordered the Pan Seared Pheasant for dinner which I did enjoy. My husband ordered the Seafood Risotto, which was mediocre, despite the shrimp being overcooked. The wine and service were very enjoyable. We have never felt overcharged for the exceptional meals we have had here in the past; although this time we did. Hopefully, we were there on an "off" night...

If you want delicious, creative food in northern Wisconsin, this is your place. Each time my husband and I leave The Rookery, we comment all the way back to the cabin about how good everything was from the cocktails to start the meal (ask for mushrooms with your Old Fashion!), friendly service, mouth-watering menu options and even the dog who greets you in and out of the front door. Highly recommended!

Food was ok but for the price it should have been to die for I love food and have no problem paying a huge price for something that is exquisite this was simply okay . And when I ordered I was asked if I wanted the Souper salad what usually indicates it comes with the meal later when I was looking over the bill I realized the soup was extra as was the salad which would have been fine had I known beforehand, the ambiance was great but don't make up for the lack of flavor of the food . Had been told great things about the Rookery was disappointed it didn't live up to it's reputation .........

We made the drive out to rural Cable, WI to try it out and our meal was acceptable. My wife had the pheasant with risotto, while I had the roasted pork loin with spaetzle. Both entrees met our expectations. The food was definitely overpriced for what it was. I have spent less money on better food in a "fine dining" environment. This restaurant's main clientele appeared to be vacationers from the twin cities judging from the license plates in the parking lot. Probably won't be back again but it was worth trying once.

My wife and I traveled from the southern part of Wisconsin after booking a Groupon trip. We ate at the Rookery Pub upon our arrival the first evening. The food was excellant and we didn't even get the dish which gets the highest reviews. The price is moderate and about what it would cost if you were eating out in a nice place in any bigger city. We were not disappointed!!!

Went in for fresh King Salmon. It was very good, though blackened. My experience in AK is you save blackened for older fish. I really wanted fresh full flavor. Not a drier piece covered in seasoning.
